When I see Rick putting his hands on the piano and starting to play, I start to believe, again, in harmony, beauty and peace. Thank you, Masters Rick and David, for sharing your work and talent with us!!
Me and mum had the privilege to meet Rick three times in the central hall in Chatham… she absolutely loved Rick with he’s stories and would play he’s music over and over again…. So I decided to have this for my dear mums funeral 6th January 2021….. this was her favourite song not only by David’s but by Ricks too…. Rest in peace mum x
My fave track ever and this for me is just out of this world, Magic. Thanks Rick you are amazing.
This is what happens when you put two musical geniuses together
or was he a hired gun?? no matter the result. And paid scale or less.
Few better pairing in all of modern music
Absolutely wonderful. Bowie's music has been with me my whole life. Rick Wakeman is an absolute marvel.
Oh no look at Rick Wakeman go......🎶🎶🎶🎙️🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹👍🏽💥🤘🏽
This song Is one of the best songs I've ever heard I love this song and David bowie
2 x Genius’s = Masterpiece.
Rick Wakeman THE FINGERS. THE MASTER. FOREVER YES!!!🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
I came for this. And and got this. Nobody sent me here. What a treat. Thanks.
I've only just found out that Rick played piano on this song - what an incredible pairing! This rendition of it is perfect, not overplayed (which Rick could obviously do if he wanted to).
Have you been in a coma for over fifty years?
Quite possibly, yes. I'll wake up soon though 😊@@googler4520
About 300 years ago, some Italian geezer had a crazy idea. "Let's turn a harp on its side, put it in a box and hit it with hammers connected to a harpsichord keyboard. I expect some bloke will manage to knock a tune out of it some day." And now we have players of the talent and skill of Rick Wakeman.
A piano master playing an absolutely amazing song written by another great master
The great thing about talented artists is that they have all the music in their heads and hearts and just share it with all of us
I'm kinda old but only recently got into Bowie's music. Life on Mars is so astoundingly beautiful, I cry every time I hear it. Thank you for this.
Possibly one of the best played by rick
Thank you so much Rick. Absolutely beautiful. You are a blessing to the world, certainly to me. I’m also grateful for David and his wonderful song writing
Happy 50th to Hunky Dory - Bowie Forever - Merry Christmas, Rick!
Brought tears to my eyes. Thanks, Rick, for helping us remember David Bowe's great work.
Legend!
Rick was the bomb back in the day! I’ve been listening to all my old records of him lately. I’m not sure that cathedral is worthy to hold him!!!! Of course that is what the place is designed to worship... MARS!!! HA!!!
Dear Rick , you are my idol since i was a child . Thanks for all
Goosebumps. Thank you Rick. And to you and yours, a very Merry Christmas. :)
I’ve always loved your music started listening when I was 14, and now I’m 61 and still love your music, that was a sensational piece of music
Thank you for the best song of my life... that piano melody makes me cross planets and galaxies... thank you again!!!
Not sure it is universally known. On Hunky Dory there was a collaboration between two talented titans of rock. At least we have Mr. Wakeman to remember, but even that won't last, not even my memory. It's a God awful small affair....
Congratulatiions the older the better Your creations Mr Rick Wakeman's 🎹.🎶🎵
Thank you for still playing!!💕
Lots of wonderful piano trills and fills there.
Beautiful piece of music indeed. Very moving.
Hey Rick! David was definitely one of a kind. So talented!
Humility, virtuosity, an amazing man.
To let it be known: fresh out of jump-trained infantry SigInt (ears like Radar in MASH) I got a lovely spot in a high end audio shop (I'm talking 1973) selling absolutely top shelf hardware to folk who could actually hear. I used *_Yes Song_* ... paradigmatic. Fine sound, lovely engineering, good craft all'round. (Oh, and *_"Girl from Ipanama"_* to showcase Shure V-15 type 3 ... _sssssibilants,_ you know?) 🙂 god bless / stay well / thanks muchly for the sanity! *_W^B_*
It's so beautiful. Thanks Rick
April 2022. The power of a CBE.
Keyboard King 🎹
Lovely.
That was an insane performance Rick, as a 63 year old newbie pianist it's motivated me even more to try and play this beautiful instrument.
My mother was an exceptional pianist and, until I heard Rick Wakeman, the best I had ever heard. He is incredibly talented!
So nice.
I never get tired of hearing this song
Excellently played sir - introduced to you Rick when my Brother had a 8 track stereo in one of his car's and said to me "have a listen to this tape Andy boy" - it was 'White Rock' soundtrack ... then I listened to 'No earthly connection' and was hooked
Incredible. 💕
Bowie brought the best musicians together, planted the seed, gave a bit of direction and then got the best from them. Bowie was a skilled craftsman and the musicians were his tools of his trade.
You brought this song back to life Rick. I had forgotten just how damn good it was. Btw, Happy Christmas.
for 50 years good sir! i owe you a pint!
FABULOSO RICK 👏🏼👌🏼🥇
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

So right that this song should be played in a church.

Merry Christmas! Thanks for all the great vids this year! Happy 2022!
Utterly stunning wow wow wow!!!! that just knocked me for 6.
"Sailors fighting in the dance hall". Most excellent. Have a great Christmas, New Year and 2022.
The song I love the most. Must excuse me I have a bit of dust in the eye mate! Thank you
Thank you Rick for being instrumental (excuse the pun) in making my N°1 album of all time, this may very well be my favourite track from it, but it would not have been anywhere near so good without you. Be well, stay safe and keep being a hero. Bless you.
I never forget on a chat show Ricks hilariouas story visiting a friends house somewhere (sorry im old memory is going) and he had to 'send a little sausage to the sea side' then the phone rang...........cant remember the rest would love to hear the stroy again one day😂🤣😂
いい
🎹🙌🏻
I love this song but when Rick plays it is just so magical. OXOX
Genio...!!!!! Tuve el placer de verte en vivo en Córdoba Argentina...nunca me olvidaré, maravilloso concierto...!!! Espero se repita tu visita a nuestro País...
Yo lo vi en Buenos Aires. Fue excelente
👏👏👏👏
What a beautiful song played so well by you Rick. I recognize some of the themes from a pop song from the 80s or 90s. I can’t recall which song, but I’ll bet they borrowed that theme. Wonderful performance.
You're probably remembering Life on Mars by David Bowie! ;-)
@@davevaebutuoy could be. It just sounded so familiar
@@johndavis6119 I suppose the clue is in the Title of the video 🤪 May the Force be with you.🌀 (-: :-)
@@jimpix8019 I did not know the name of the song. Only a melody I had heard before.
@@johndavis6119 My way by Frank Sinatra?
How much are lessons? Asking for a friend. Absolutely my favourite song and absolutely played by the best. It's like what a beautiful lady would SOUND like if you were a blind person edit - merry Christmas Rick! Wonderous stories was really good until you stepped in with the keyboard and made it unforgettable. Love to you, John and all xx
I was there with my son! Traveled from Alabama just for this, It was so cold inside this beautiful cathedral. Portraits on Ice!
🥰💕
I like only the songs of Bowie of this period. Your interpretation is wonderful with many nuances and gives a classic dimension to this song. 🎹 🇨🇵 👍
He played on the original so definitely classic...
😊💫
Hey Mr. Wakeman, for the 50th anniversary of "Six Wives" are you going to add the 7th song, for King Henry the 8th, that you had originally planned to include? That would be awesome if you did.
Oh Mon Dieu! 😇🙏🙏🙏
Hi Rick - Have just spent a wonderful time listening to this and several other pieces from your concert in the Cathedral of my home town Lincoln. I now live in Perth Western Australia and still have strong ties with Lincoln. My question is, do you have a DVD available of the entire Lincoln concert? If so, I would love to obtain a copy. I can send payment via PayPal. I look forward to hearing from you. In the meantime, have a happy, healthy and safe Christmas and New Year. Take care, David.

Ironically, Rick disproves his own notion that music has no Earthly connection - so glad he's dead wrong
Ken Scott engineered and co produced Hunky Dory!
Well that’s something
Pretty. But if it is really intended to be about life on Mars, I expect a few moments of stark terror, musically, would be appropriate. If we ever get there to stay it's going to be really really hard. :-) Did I hear an homage or two to Elton within it?
if only he played the exact same notes from the song he played in the background. I wish he uploaded just that
Of the studio track? That wouldn't work so well - a piano part that's written to be balanced in the mix of a song with a guitar, vocals etc doesn't fulfill the needs of a solo piano performance when it stands by itself
At times it sounded like Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again, Naturally". (no offense intended)
Ken Scott engineered and produced Hunky Dory, not Tony Visconti.Otherwise, magnificent.
