I found an abandoned Vault and went inside. What I found was shocking.
To the northeast of the town of Glanmire lies the overgrown and ramshackle cemetery at Ballylucra. It was the site of an early medieval church, but this was in ruins by 1615. A protestant church was erected in 1829 and was still in operation in 1907, “a small, modern building, near which are several large grave-plots, enclosed by tall iron railings. The number of evergreen shrubs planted in this churchyard gives it a pleasanter aspect than is usually the case with the graveyards about here.“ (Journal of the Irish Memorials Association). At that time, the church was known as Riverstown. The church fell into disrepair soon after this and was demolished by 1923, but the hexagonal tower and steeple remain. The graveyard is quite dilapidated, and care would be advised when walking around it as the earth seems quite unsteady under the weight of stone and nature!
In this graveyard there is a grave of twins, both died during an outing on a horse and carriage, extremely sad, they were only 2 years old
Although the graveyard is beautiful, parts of the graveyard are abandoned. parts of the area are a mystery to me, and during my tour, I found some areas creepy, and others felt enchanted.

Thank you Sue for your contribution to preserving the history of Ireland's cemeteries.
My pleasure!
So nice to see that some of these graves are still visited and people are remembered
Yes, plus we had several visiting when we were there
Isnt it amazing that we're all watching from all over the world. Australia, NZ, US, England and Wales to name just a few and we're all here together in beautiful Ireland ......I love it 😊😊 I'm in Scotland, born and bred and my Gran was from Cork and my Grandpa from Dublin. So I'm entitled to dual citizenship but I haven't applied for it because I don't need a piece of paper to tell me what I already know in my heart ...... I'm Scirish and very proud to be so ❤❤ Thanks for the tour Sue, loved it xx ❤
I love that Carol, amazing
What a gorgeous place! The steeple and the beautiful rails, then an enchanted area. I think vandalism is to blame for that vault. Sad. Thank you so much Sue.
Oh Toms, this area has everything, the enchanted feeling was everywhere. Yes unfortunately I think it's vandalism too. Terrible
You know what? When I was a young man I spent many hours in graveyards and people thought of me as a weird guy, Like you I see the beauty of just being there and the ornate structures. Now there are thousands of youtube channels dedicated to graves proving I'm not weird! If I get my car running again I'll take you on a tour of Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond VA
Oh yes, I'd love that, hey I'm called weird all the time, we will all be in graveyards for eternity when our time comes
I loved to go visit the graveyards and cemeteries. Still do when I can. Nobody's judging you there 💕
So true sue.😊@SerenitySueGraveyards
@@SerenitySueGraveyards I usually have a comment I'm just getting used to the idea of being a permanent resident at any cemetery LOL
Not me...I hate burial..makes me shudder thinking of rotting corpses in their graves......cremation for me especially seeing these awful gravestones all smashed and moss covered...so sad....
It is such a pretty cemetary the part that is kept nice and the church tower. It is always so nice to pay respects when you can get to the tombs . it is really a beautiful video. God knows what happened. Thanx guys. Have a lovely day. ❤😊❤😊
Thanks Deborah ❤️
The steeple reminds me of Rapunzels's tower from Grimms fairy-tale!
Ahh yes, definitely a fairy tale feel
Beautiful video, beautiful cemetery. Thank you.❤❤🙏
Glad you enjoyed it
Hello Serenity Sue and GV Beautiful cemetery, birds chirping and singing add to the beauty
Yes, thank you
I wonder why the twins weren't named, and where the bones have gone out of the crypt? The tower does has a fairy tale feel about it, very nice. I enjoyed this walkabout with you Sue, thank you. Be safe! Deb of Oz XXX
Thanks Deb, I don't know why, seems strange, I actually thought they were but that is the parents names. Very sad for them. I wonder if grave robbers went in there but it's really strange
You found my people! The Cotter family of Cork . Thank you it means so much to me.
Oh really, wow, that's amazing ❤️
@@SerenitySueGraveyards yes my grandmother left in 1921 and came to Cardiff. I still have family in Cork
This is a very nice video Serenity Sue and GV😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thanks Tina
What a beautiful cemetery.. I really love the ivy over everything. Thanks for the video Sue, there's something so peaceful about there.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank You Sue!🌹 It's a very beautiful place. Beautiful remains of the old church on this cemetery. One thing annoys me about such cemeteries is there are jungles of trees and bushes growing there, and no one cuts them down and cleans them up.🌴🌳🌵
No one to care, if family are gone
I've said it before. You have found your calling. You are wonderful as a narrator and visual presenter. This is a beautiful cemetery. It's very unfortunate that there is vandalism in many of these places. Of course, this has been going on for a long time. Egypt, for example. People are looking for valuables. It's disrespectful. Thanks again from Humboldt County, CA.
Thanks Clark ❤️
Lovely cemetery! I’m glad that you went inside that mausoleum but not too far in, there could have been a chamber underneath.
Thanks Sheila ❤️
The solitary steeple is my favorite feature in this cemetery. Seeing a place over run with foliage like that. I am sorely tempted to go in with a riding mower and landscaping tools and clean the place up.
You and me both!
What a gorgeous place, watching you from Cardiff xxx
Hello, I was in Cardiff but only passing through
Me too x

Wow!! What a lovely place!! You chose a nice day to go as well!! That steeple DOES look like a witch's hat!!🧙♀️🧙♀️🤣🤣 I wish some people would respect the departed and NOT DUMP THEIR GARBAGE AT GRAVEYARDS/CEMETERIES!! Thanks for yet another INTRIGUING video, Sue!! XXXX 👏💕❤👍💞

Yes they should have some respect for the departed and visitors!
A beautiful day for colorful flowers! ...and yes, a strange feeling of edgy serenity, though... Lots of history there... 🙏📿📿 Nice video! Thanks for showing!

You do find some of the most magnificent abandoned grave yards. Thanks for the video UK.
Glad you enjoyed it Florie
Thank you, Sue. This was lovely! Looks like Santa’s head was put on a stake. 😮 Oh, my!! 💚💚✌🏼💚💚
Poor Santa, doesn't deserve this 😳
I Love Your Sincere Heart Ms. Sue ❤
Thanks ❤️
Yes ma'am!! Great video and beautiful location. Very enchanting ❤❤
Thank you so much 🤗
My worry is that there were disrespectful folks who went into the mausoleum and took the bones...as a sort of macabre prize...as it seems we don't see a single bone left. That is truly sad and horrifying. 😪
Yes, that's what I'm thinking, how awful
Sue, such beautiful places you take us & the absolutely beautiful stone work ❤
Thanks so much 😊
This is a lovely place, love the steeple
You’re a ledge Sue as is your partner , the most fascinating channels on KZhead. Thanks 🙏 🤩

Another great video! Watching from Texas USA!
Thanks for watching!
What few mysteries to solve only time can find. Amazing tour thank you! Beautiful in places, sad in others and so natural too. Some places just need a little sort out
Glad you enjoyed it
Sue, the name that you read John Fitzgerald might be related to the Kennedy family here in America because there was a Fitzgerald that was mayor of Boston and he was directly from Ireland.
Oh it could be but most of the kennedys were from Wexford or Limerick but I couldn't be sure
Thanks Sue and GV. It is beautiful there.
Yes it was! Thank you Pamela
Hello Sue and Cathel Mark from West Bend Wisconsin . Beautiful and ausome cemetery . ❤
Thanks Mark ❤️
Your Welcome Sue❤❤❤ you guys
Beautiful old graveyard. Reminds me of an old graveyard that my mother and grandmother visited once when i was a little girl. It was nestled deep in the woods, with these very small stones, and surrounded in a row of stones, shaped like a rectangle. Many had no words carved on the stones, but we knew it was an old burial plot. Thank you for this lovely tour. God bless from Oklahoma U.S.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great video Sue, thank you.
You are so welcome!
Viewing you from northern Minnesota. Love the depth of history found in the cemeteries you visit. The ruins of the old churches never fail to make me wonder about the lives of those who built them. Incredible craftsmanship. Thanks too, for your genuine respect for the places you visit.
Thanks William ❤️
My grandfather and all his family before him are buried here. You found the headstone in this video. I have visited twice and couldn’t find it.
No way, ahh that's amazing
It's amazing how the internet can bring people together. From watching your explorations ,I've come to the conclusion that we could be close friends although I live across the pond. The name of your channel suits you. You are serene and respectful of the places you visit. Stay safe and God bless you.
Thanks so much, God Bless
Shame to see a cemetery so overgrown, no body has taken responsibility to keep it up to standard
I kind of like the moss and ivy but eventually that will destroy them
Absolutely gorgeous place. The Ivy is so lush and green, (I know it's a hazard if left unattended) bu,t it looks so beautiful. And the steeple is such a beautiful feature too. Lovely cemetery, thank you Sue xx Teresa 🇦🇺♥
I agree, it's absolutely beautiful
Lovely cemetery exploration, wish I was with you! Thanks Sue 😊
You’re welcome 😊
This cemetery is not creepy at all, it's absolutely stunning. That crypt was kind of strange for there were no bones visible. I wonder what happened there.
Me too, I wonder was it vandalism
Love the Graveyard Miss Sue 😊
Thank you ❤️
Hi all the way from Australia, I absolutely love this video. It is so beautiful and the steeple just looks like it’s touching the sky. What I’d give to come to your part of the world. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it, maybe some day
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊 miss you Susan, still sending prayers
Lovely video and location. Thanks. That's a lovely Celtic cross at 23.18mins. Forgotten graves, now lost in times; loving children, no more nursery rhymes. no one left to see or care; just Ivy, weeds and moss in there.
Ahh that's a beautiful poem 💖

You and GV both find such beautiful cemeteries. I love the steeple. I also love the information you find on the people who are buried The twins broke my heart. I can’t imagine what the parents went through.
Thank you, I can't imagine the pain their parents felt
Great video as usual sue thank you for sharing

Really like the Bell tower. Enchanting is the word for that tomb/mausoleum in the beginning. Great video. Stay safe and Thanks!
Thanks, you too!
Fantastic video Sue and G.V.
Thank you
Beautifully done Sue! You’re so brave to go in and check that mausoleum for us. I almost think natural decay and wear on those coffins. Enchanted indeed but a little spooky as well. Hugs and love and you and GV stay safe! Marci

After watching a few times the twins stone I believe names the parents but not the children. I may be wrong but I was wondering what you think. I’m from Tennessee in the U.S. Take care and another excellent video.
Actually you may be correct there, I wonder why they didn't name the children
I'm in Tennessee too😊

Hi sue Steve from England. What a exquisite place. New and old headstones together. I wonder what else may be hidden about the place. I think it looks great when nature takes over. Some beautiful headstones, nature brings the old headstones stand out. Another great and interesting video sue. ..

I wonder about the vault you were in. Could it have once been a place to store people, until the ground wasn't frozen anymore? The coffin pieces throw me off a bit. I would have thought there would be bones there also. Interesting and beautiful place, though! Thanks guys!
Great question and you might be correct The Vault Sue was in is called a Holding Tomb very common in the Northeast as for the coffin pieces maybe at one time they were used for a temporary coffin holder for the dead ???
Yes but then why so many pieces of coffin?
It could be but why coffin pieces then, so strange
