Love your tutorials! Two tips for napkins: 1. To separate plies, put small piece of scotch tape on back and gently pull - layers will separate easily. Works every time! And 2. To tear napkin, run line of water where you want it to tear and it will tear on line. Have fun in MX. Wish I would have gone!

Love your videos.... A little secret I learned about separating my napkin layers.... Apply one end of a piece of tape to back of napkin, close to a corner. Then pull tape off & watch a layer or 2 of napkin pull away, making it easy peasy to separate the remainder of the napkin! Hope you have a fun trip!

This tutorial is fabulous! What I like most is how you teach: with good humor and the flexibility to adjust for personal style and materials. I just purchased some very crunchy antique books at a library book sale today. I can’t wait to dig in!! And now I have an excuse for some fancy napkins!

If you take a small wet paint brush and go around the image that you want to use from the napkin it will tear with ease exactly where you want it to and still have the torn look. Love your books! This one is going to be awesome!

That works well to get just the image you want. I, also, separate the pages using sellotape....it works a treat.

I love every aspect of these pages!!! So creative! I love what you did with the tag and how you added the glaze. I've been doing hole punching with dried flowers with two sides open, covered with organza or clear packing (ala Jibid Neary, genius), and I'm definitely going to try it this way now. LorriMarie, If you wet a tiny paint brush and run it along where you want the napkin to tear, it will go exactly there. Also, a little scotch tape to tear out the layers on the napkin helps too.

Here's a tip for you re taking apart the napkin layers: Take a piece of masking tape and adhere to the bottom white layer. Gently pull it and voila! the pieces come apart easily. Worst tha happens is that a small part of the edge where you adhere the tape is torn, but one can always choose which part can afford to be dmaged if tha does happen. BTW I love your work althoug hate Mod Podge!

i love creating in books....i love old books, and i love their pages....the feel...the smell...the color....it just made sense that since i used the old pages for underpants in my work that i eventually started just using the books! lol....i am glad you are enjoying the videos...me too! lol...see you on the table heather....
I use a wet paint brush and go over the napkin where I want it to tear and it comes away easily. You can be quite detailed with what you want to use of the images this way. And I have tried other ways of smudging the stabilo, and spit and smudge works best lol. Have fun in Mexico in the sun on the beach.

Have you tried using a wet brush to separate the napkin (run a line wherever) you want it to go vs just ripping? Same look but you get it closer than possibly ripping it and losing what you want. I'm new to your channel so this may have been addressed already. If so, sorry for the repeat. Love your work (and inspiration).

good morning luvwaltdisney1.....thank you for your support....a lot of the books are 'gifted' to me...but library book sales and second hand stores are a great source for old books....examine them carefully because you want the 'sewn in' signatures...yay! see you on the table....

I love your work! Thank you for sharing your talent! Can you please tell me how you keep the ModPodge from being tacky and sticking to each other AFTER you are finished with you book? I live in Alabama, and it is very humid here. I have SO many ruined books that I covered with ModPodge and now they are stuck together, or the Podge pulls up when I open a page!
baby powder to the rescue....or cornstarch....or rub a wax candle on your pages....or paste wax....there are some ideas bitzbitz....i hope that helps! see you on that sticky table my friend!
bitzbitz13 try using cold wax on your dry finished page. It keeps pages from sticking together!

bitzbitz13 You can buy it online...like on Blick, there are several brands. I got a jar at Michaels using a coupon. Mine is called Cold Wax Medium by Gamblin. I use it over art journal pages and now on my altered book pages. Works awesome. Rub a little on and then i buff with an old soft cloth. No more pages that stick!

I'm a newbie so I hope this isn't a silly question.. can we use pastels to make the shadowing? And if so.. do we need to spray lightly with a poly sealer? I live in Florida and it's so humid here that some things stay sticky.
i am a firm believer of use what you have rose....so if pastels work? yay....i am a spit and smudge girl with my stabilo...and the humidity...arg! dust with some baby powder or rub a candle on it? i do not use a sealant.....but give it a try! go create, go play, go have fun rose!!!!
Ahhh. The addition of a napkin image is one of my favorite techniques! Quick question: I notice you use a bristle brush for your 'juicy ModPodge.' Is there a reason you prefer it over a foam brush? Thanks!
oooooh good question....foam brushes absorb way too much moisture....modpodge.....and also....i apply alot of pressure with my brush and the foam brushes cannot withstand that pressure.....i hope that answers your question clearly......thank you ann for taking the time to ask and leave a comment!!!! see you on the table...

Hey lorrimarie what do you do with the second and third ply of your napkin the white portions?
they crumple up so nicely with modpodge and create some very fun texture....or....rubber stamp with stazon ink and the napkin pretty much disappears...good ideas? we cannot just throw it away, right? go create, go play, go have fun!
Would like to try this technique but do not have a multi media sewing machine. Concerned sewing on paper will ruin my machine. What do you use?and are you concerned about sewing on paper.... the piece is wonderful! I guess I read that paper debris collects in your machine and can ruin a motor.
i have a workhorse machine...a cheap brother...lol! i sew everything on it...not much help here...sorry!

Do the pages ever stick together that have mod Podge on them.
mine do not but it is pretty dry here....what you can do is rub a candle on the pages to give them a bit of coating...try that susan.....keep me posted....see you on the table susan!

it is like something you have never used before...it is an 'all mark' pencil...it smudges sooooo nicely....you must give it a try! see you on the table mincka's...
