What UFC Fighters "Really" think about Dustin Poirier ?

2024 ж. 15 Нау.
64 259 Рет қаралды

Dustin Poirier's emphatic knockout victory over Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299 could lead to him challenging for the undisputed lightweight championship. UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is healthy and ready to fight, and he sees Dustin Poirier as the best option for his desired timetable.
Dustin Glenn Poirier is an American professional mixed martial artist. He currently competes in the Lightweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, where he is a former Interim UFC Lightweight Champion. As of August 1, 2023, he is #3 in the UFC lightweight rankings.

  • This comment is true. I started training with Dustin when he was a teenager at Gladiators Academy in Baton Rouge Louisiana. He drove from our sister gym in Lafayette. I haven't spoken to him in years, but he is a friend. He is a good man. He is a fascinating dude, as focused as any human I have ever met. He always believed he'd be in the UFC. He is, without a doubt, the most honest fighter in the UFC. He doesn't hide his fear. Fist fighting another man is terrifying, and Dustin is an absolute warrior. You should all be huge fans of him. He is a gift to MMA, and we need to soak up these last fights of his.

  • I see a lot of people say he doesn't deserve the title shot against Makhachev. I agree on paper he doesn't. But I think he deserves it in a different way. He's a legend in the sport. He's one of the coolest dudes out here. He recently had an excellent performance. And the timing couldn't be any better since everyone else is booked and Makhachev wants to fight in June. Dustin's also not getting any younger. I really hope they make the fight happen.

    • He’s not getting a title shot and got ko’d by gaethje so how tf does that add up? On paper or even fans wanting exciting fights and ufc politics, how tf does he get a title shot over gaethje😂 almost as dumb as chito getting a title shot after being beat by Cory. He needs to fight the winner of gaethje and max or Charles and arman. Either or but only then is it a deserved title shot. Islam only fights once a year anyway

      @Xlnjv@XlnjvАй бұрын
    • Why wouldn't he even deserve it on paper? Been top 5 for like...ever, and some of that time he's been top 3. Oleivera missed weight and then cancelled. Justin SHOULD be next but for some reason he took a fight with max. Islam's trying to make money and Dustin is a draw. Makes sense on paper and business-wise.

    • Negatroid! He just got headkick KO’d by Gaethe! It’s absolutely ABSURD to put Dustin in front of Gaethe! Unless Gaethe shits the bed and loses to Max, he’s IN! If Gaethe knocks Max out easily at UFC 300 and sustains no damage, he should fight Makachev in early July! Otherwise, if he wins a 5 round war, he still fights Mak in September.

  • Dustin’s legacy and legend is secure with or without undisputed belt. This is a division that has had benson Henderson, Pettis, rda, Eddie Alvarez, Conor mcgregor as undisputed champions in this Div, and as great as these guys and champs all are, Dustin’s resume and accolades are simply better then theirs, plain and simple and he even has wins and finishes over them. While important, because it acts a way of raising the stakes, and giving a unified goal and end game and a indicator it’s no different then the ufc rankings in that is a completely arbitrary concept that isn’t always actually indicative of who’s actually better or the best. The champion at the time they win the belt until they defend it aren’t always the best in the Div at that given time, and there can be guys who are the best fighter in a division who don’t hold the belt, and this is obvious because of the way these belts frequently change hands, especially at lw and that there is only a handful of all time great champions who really had long dominant runs.

    @worldview6218@worldview6218Ай бұрын
    • DP fan here but that's a little far fetched to say his resume is better than the Conor Mcgregor. Conor held two championship belts at the same time. DP never held one and an interim belt doesn't count.

I think it should go like this: Islam - Gaethje at UFC 300. Dana was saying the winner of Oliveria - Tsarukyan at 300 would be the #1 contender. After Saturday, I think that should change. If Tsarukyan wins, Dustin's next. If Oliveira wins, he's up. It's rough to be near the top of such a stacked division this late in your career.
