This 1955 Buick Special hasn't moved under its own power since 1968! This week, Tony Angelo and the Stay Tuned crew hammer down on this old boat anchor and build a custom 4 link, custom exhaust, and a bunch of other things in hopes of getting it down the road. Will this old iron hit the streets again after 56 years? STAY TUNED!

  • Rule of thumb on thread engagement is 1.5 times the bolt diameter. 1/2" bolt would have 3/4" of thread engagement, minimum. 5 threads is likely good on smaller bolts, but if you imagine 5 threads on a 1.5" bolt, for instance, you'll see that it's barely engaged. It's a pretty good rule. Loving the show!

    @guest6423@guest642314 күн бұрын
    • However if you do the math, the first 3 threads carry the vast majority of the load. It's because there's less bolt stretch down the line. The reality is that 3 threads of those bolts would hold up the entire car.

      @hydrocarbon8272@hydrocarbon827214 күн бұрын
    • If that rule of thumb were completely accurate, then lug nuts would be much longer than most are. If you are looking for a better safe than sorry approach, then sure, but there is a reason engineers don't specify couplers over nuts. The 3 full threads of engagement rule of thumb is mathematically better.... And cleaner.

  • The timing on this is awesome, i just bought my uncles 54 Buick Special, it has a 264 nailhead, with the original drivetrain, and the rear lever shocks. I'm wanting to upgrade to an open drivetrain and replace the lever shocks because mine work, but leak.

  • after you can the leaf spring mounts off , the grinder and disc you were using is meant to remove milscale to prep for welding WHAT you need is a CORDED 7 inch grinder with a grinding Disc and get the job done and save $ cause you probably went through a flap disc or two and a lot of time ,the investment in the 7" grinder and grinding disc will pay off in shop time and the cost of flap discs, using that grinder and flap disc is like putting pizza cutters on the back of your car and trying to get your best time at the track ,keep up the good work love the channel 👍
