Throughout history, technology has been at the forefront of our development, changing the way we live and protect citizens. The nation's skies need to be secure to achieve this, which is why the US military has unveiled plans to implement a project that has been kept secret for years. This project stretches the boundaries of aeronautical engineering and goes beyond what we ever imagined.

But they were designed as a surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. They were incredibly fast and had state-of-the-art cameras. American engineering at its finest.

Yes, we have plenty of black programs. However, you look into why they got rid of the SR71, it was operational cost. • @@ritchschut1997 the sr-72 got replaced by satellites. it just isn't needed anymore, satellites don't cost continuous fuel. So i can't see them making any hypersonic jet for taking pictures anymore. If they did make a hypersonic jet, it would be a bomber or to try and reach up into orbit without a massive rocket. So if you take that into account, it gives you an idea why they'd be developing what they are and why there was major cutbacks on spaceflights with giant rockets, they got a better and cheaper way obviously.

    @dannycox6492@dannycox64927 ай бұрын
    • Danny - You may not have heard it, but in supersonic flight, any aircraft continuously 'sheds' sonic booms as it flies, and the noise hits the ground-based listeners to sound only like one boom as it flies past. This is because the aircraft is continuously penetrating past the speed of sound and creating the noise.

There was an interceptor version of the SR-71, and while we learned a lot about firing missiles at extreme speed there just wasn't anything fast enough to intercept with the SR-71. At 2 miles per second (7500 mph) we may have to ask what battlefield we would use this aircraft on. As a recon aircraft, it would be wonderful. It may also be great in the Space Force.

    • Incorrect according to books written by Ben Rich and Kelly Johnson. The A12 Cygnus was the first plane in the family. This was the CIA version. Shortly after this program was initiated, the air force came calling. That is when the SR71 went into development. While that development was going on, Kelly got the idea to turn the SR71 into a long range interceptor. That was when the 3 yf-12's were built. It should also be noted that there was actually a fourth version in this family too. The MD ( I forget what numbers followed the MD ) This was an altered A-12 that had a very ( for the time ) stealthy drone mounted to it. That drone could be launched at mack 3.1 or 3.2.

  • The problem with laser weapons is that the air, the atmosphere is a huge hindrance. It distort and weakens the beam and there's not much you can do about that, I don't care how technologically advanced you are. The literal air molecules (nitrogen, oxygen, water, bugs, whatever) gets in the way and you just have to power through it. The only way to do that is with more power. Thus, lasers would be ideal at extremely high altitudes, or space. But closer to the ground, they're only viable in specific situations, in certain circumstances, in certain weather configurations (if it's raining, forget about it).
