  • The horses have so much trust in the carrier, they never make a noise or even flinch. I’m fascinated by these types of videos 😊

    • Not all of them are well behaved... However since getting foot care is a pretty regular thing for horses, they get used to it. Farrier work is a body punishing trade.

    • That's not true. I scare the shit out of my horse everyday day and he doesn't trust me for shit. But the second he wants attention, who's shirt is he pulling? Mine. The second a girl tries to be around me, guess who is getting kicked in the face? Her?.....that would be a nice change.... Nope. She (my horse) wants to kick me. She instead walks between me and a girl while using her body to push the girl away. Me and this horse have been best friends for 14 years.

  • Being a farrier isn't an easy job by any means. Setting the physical labour part aside for a second, a farrier has to learn two very different fields of knowledge: anatomy of and how to treat issues with horses' hooves, and how to work metal. Shaping a shoe isn't just heating up a strip of iron until it glows and then hitting it with a hammer until you get the shape you want. you have to know what temperature is best to work with, and how over- and under-heating will affect the metal and its properties. Then there is the hammering itself: I did some jewellery making and silver smithing some years back, and learned that if you hit the metal in one way, one thing would happen, hit it slightly differently, and something completely different results. So I take my hat off to all farriers- after all, they aren't just people fixing metal shoes to horses with nails: they are true masters of two very different crafts!

File or sear the bottom of the hoof so it is plumb with the horseshoe. 5.) With brand new shoes, nailing in 2 nails for the inside of the hoof and 3 nails for the outside of the hoof. The claw of the hammer on the topside of the hoof afterwards is the clip off the excess of the nail. Then they nail is smacked into the side of the hoof so it is flush and doesn't protrude. 6.) • Growing up in Romania in the 90's most of us had grandparents who had small households with animals of all kinds , but most of them had at least one horse ,one cow , all kinds of birds and other livestock . I remember how most people if they ever saw someone who had a skinny horse or one that looked unhealthy they would immediately judge the owner as a bad person and an older aunt of mine ,when I was about 7 or 8 , she had to use her horse for a weekend with worn shoes because the blacksmith was so busy he couldn't make it in time , the horse was struggling a bit and my aunt was almost in tears and talking him through the work , she even took twice as long to finish everything because she was trying to protect him ( rain was predicted and so the crop had to be harvested that day ) . People who own horses love them more than other people I swear .

    • Totally agree with this. I grew up in Erdely in Marosvaszarhely but also on the countryside in a small village called Gruisor and I totally agree. Horses to some were the only way of transportation so some took great care of them. Others not so much but most did.

They work standing and bent over at the Waist, in the Sun, Wind etc. It's a Young Man's type of work and takes it's toll on your Back, Shoulders, Arms, just like this work, bent over, hammering etc.

    • Ime it's harder in your legs than back. You spend a lot of time standing like you're doing the invisible chair exercise... Without a wall to brace against. And a horse leaning on you. And your legs at an awkward angle to hold their hoof in place.

  • At first I was worried because it looks like those huge nails were being driven ALL the way into the hoof. Then I looked closer and saw they actually pop out of the side of the hoof and then are clipped off

    • @@Bacon00024 Most definitely. Horses are like any other animal, they don't stand quietly and allow someone to hurt them.

  • Them farrier tools cutting slices off hoof like they are made of cheese, of course the technique looks easy as per any expert at work.

  • i had horses for many years of all shapes and sizes and breeds. My horses never had dry, flaky hooves. I spent an inordinate amount of time and money buying salves, lotions, and creams and doing maintenance every day because i wanted them to be healthy. it's strange to see so many videos with badly neglected hooves on such beautiful animals. Thank you for your videos.
