Fan Request: Rupert Jee's Billboard Over Broadway | Letterman
Fan Friday Request:
"Hi!
I'm a lifelong fan of the show. Rupert Jee has always had a soft spot in my heart. I would love to see the clip of the big Times Square billboard of his face on Rod Steward's body! Such a funny and sweet moment :)
Thanks for all the great clips so far!
Sincerely,
Monica"

Welcome to the Letterman KZhead Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era.
I met Rupert years ago, had my photo taken with him. Such a nice guy, he deserves to be a star!
Me too! About 25 years ago! I also have one with Biff.
I LAUGHED for many months, looking up to see Rupert's face, glued on to, buffed, and sexily-tuxxed, Rod. What a GENEROUS laugh Dave gave us folks on the street for such a long time. (Billboards ain't cheap in Times Square.) Thank you, Dave, for decades of immense, generous kindness to Rupert. His love and gratitude are forever. Thank you, Walter and Company, for reviving this very funny memory..
Since that Rod Stewart stayed up so long without a new client do you know how long Rupert's billboard stayed up?
@@eurofritz4617 can't remember but it was up there for months
Rupert and May are just wonderful folks! Visited NYC last week, and chatted for a little while, as I'm a big fan of he, and of course Dave's adventures. They had all kinds of questions for me, too, being a Canadian. They really do miss Dave. If you're going, I HIGHLY suggest either the Bacon-egg-and-cheese, or the stupendous Alan Kalter Sandwich (RIP Big Red!). Smoked turkey, Avocado, sweet peppers, romaine, and pesto on a baguette. TOP NOTCH! These folks KNOW NYC food, and they do it very...very well. Very well. Love ya Rupert and May! See ya next year!! I'll bring that bacon you wanted!
I would definitely get an Alan Kalter with Canadian bacon.
This is why Dave rocked! He always respected his neighbors.
Including Sirajul and Mujiber.

Miss Dave, Paul, Rupert and the gang at Late Night!😢
Really a one-of-a-host with an amazing team behind him
Steven Colbert is garbage
That's Mrs. Dave to you.
Hilarious and also touching. I've never forgotten this. I forgot Rupert was posed like Rod.. HA HA! When things are touching and also hilarious at the same time, that's a gift.
same here, totally forgot about the pose, had a nice laugh all over again
Gotta love Rupert ❤️
As many have I got to meet Rupert with my Mom in 1996. Had a photo taken. He was super kind. :)
Rupert is so lucky to have a friend like Dave. He's funny as h*ll too. The perfect 'straight man'.
When I moved to New York I had a job near there and I used to get lunch at the Hello Deli. Very busy for such a small space but they had really good sandwiches. I think my favorite was the Hal Gurnee but I don't remember what it was anymore.
Almost brought a tear to my eye.
Haha ! This is one of the best shows ! Long live Rupert & May. !! And, of course, Dave.
Ugh I got a trip planned for New York and was psyched to go to the Hello Deli only to find out Rupert retired 😢
CLASS!!!!!!! Just that. This among so many situations and moments made Late Night number 1.
David, we love you always. Love from Ireland..xx
Super nostalgic.
Loyalty ran both ways in the Letterman universe.
I miss this show very much, great show.
“I wasn’t making any money, it was free”
So many great memories
I could go for one of those big deli sandwiches now....corned beef on rye !
There is no off position on the genius switch.
I miss Rupert.
Love Rupert. Got to meet him when we went to the David Letterman show in the 90s. We ate dinner at the deli. Delicious sandwiches.
Great billboard Dave
❤
One of the times I was in NYC, I drove down Broadway, and I realized I was at the Ed Sullivan Theater, so I knew I needed to turn down the next street (53rd) to get to the Hello Deli. Well, I found it--and the grate was closed! No Rupert, no deli! Oh well, that was a shock, but I found it.
VERY COOL!!!!
Fan request: Belinda Carlisle DO YOU FEEL LIKE I FEEL + interview. Thank you in advance.
That is too funny. Side by side comparison: 2:16 and 6:58
*Perfect* :D The biggest message I get during Letterman's visit to Rupert and his Deli is that *this* is the longest Rupert has ever stood still in his whole life. He won't have to worry about THAT anymore... :D
Rupert's reaction seemed to be genuine. After all the years of Dave's exploitation, which I'm not complaining about, he surely deserved it.
Rupert was funny, so was Larry Bud Melman!!!
Hahaha
Dave probably paid a small fortune for that. What a nice gesture.
I was just trying to explain the relationship between these two and the golden age of the late show to my gf... I don't think she gets it.
You were trying to explain it to....?

Please talk to Meg Parsont next!
Odd thought, but I wonder if the vile IRS caused problems for Rupert, trying to assess a value to his business directly tied to Dave’s on-air promotion of Rupert’s Hello Deli? As in, free advertising. As I said, odd thought, but there it is.
Does Rupert still remain at this Deli?
Sure does! He and May make AMAZING food. Really really good. Grab the Alan Kalter...you won't be disappointed!
Graham fenwick jones please
I, would have like to heard Ruberts response
So glad I don’t have to listen to Paul’s voice anymore
The fan request is the complete Bee Gees interview and songs (1993), I don’t watch anything else you post
