    • Thanks, but I'm actually basing a song for a metal trio on these ideas. :) All the percussion will be played by a single drummer so I have to remove for example any hi-hat 16ths that coincide with the syncopated toms. The bass does a lot of octave jumps, slides and on certain parts, a 6/8 polymeter (like in your video). The guitar gets a one-note 5/4 polymeter (Ok, technically a 10/16) and some breaks where the drums keep the pulse on the kick drum or hi-hat.

    • Most of this isn't necessarily "music theory." It's more about nailing the style, which has little to do with music theory. Especially in techno. This entire track basically sticks to the root, so basically nothing happens in a "music theory" sense.

  • What I find beautiful about these "rules" is that they describe that techno is not even necessarily electronic music. Quite a few artists have demonstrated that if you apply the same rules regarding exploration of timbre and rhythm to analog instruments (kitchenware, symphony orchestras, and everything in between), you achieve a recognizable techno sound all the same.
