You can solder stainless steel parts as an alternative to welding. I requires the use of acid flux made specifically for soldering stainless steel.

  • Great video on soldering stainless. I've been searching for a solution for this for a long time.

    • I was convinced that I needed to use a silver solder. I'm very surprized you were successful with regular lead free. I wish you'd shown the flux can because that flux seems to work well and appears to be the key.

    • The flux is just an acid based flux for stainless steel, pretty easy to find

  • Thanks for the video. Have used StayClean and Silver Bearing Solder for larger stainless to copper joints. But have a commercial sink project with 16 gauge and have to reattach the base of the divider. I'll probably use oxy with a small brazing torch to focus the heat and move quickly.

  • What an interesting idea. Great demo and brilliant explanation. I've used this for my dog's collar, where my dog license inevitably gets lost. A few drops of solder on the metal clip and the license tag never comes off.

  • Hi Pete I'm building my second cobra and it's going to be a big block. My real concern about building the motor is determining the correct length of the push rods. I can build the bottom in install the crank put the heads on all that good stuff but I've never had to figure out aftermarket push rod length to get it just right. If you have a video on that that would be great. Otherwise I might have to give you a call once I save up enough money to get this going things sure have gotten expensive in the last year or two. Thanks

  • I've welded on 6 inch columns and we had to preheat it up to 350 to 500 degrees and maintain that temperature we never turned off the rose buds then we had to put fire blankets

  • Will that stainless rust now that its been heated and had acid flux on it? Does it need to be painted afterwards?

    @Mrdubomb@Mrdubomb9 ай бұрын
    • No, you neutralize the acid with baking soda

  • Do your engine building videos relate to all builds regardless what motor or internals? Still follow the same steps and do it all the same way? I’m looking to get 900-1000HP with a boosted lq9 6.0. And I want to do it all myself.
