    • Have you ever figured out why there is a stairway to heaven and a highway to hell.? The GTO wrote the book... it's a dream car that's a total sleeper but sent a lot of youngsters to their death. Fast wasn't the word . Stupid fast for the time.

  • I bought a 67 GTO new, factory order. I was twenty years old. Mine was 4-speed, Safety Trac axle, ratio 3.55. Lots of nice options. Kept it 43 years. 67 GTO was the best looking GTO in my opinion.

  • I got my drivers license in 1966 when I was a sophomore in high school. I loved the 65 GTO - nothing better ! Loved those cars for decades and not too long ago I started appreciating the lines of the 64 GTO - the one that started it all ... and I don’t know why but lately the 66-67 GTO’s are turning my head, more refined and pretty stylish ! But then again the 62 Catalina ... hahaha, funny how taste changes !

    • Ward Montgomery You do remember that there WAS a 1962 Pontiac Grand Prix don't you?. The sharpest Pontiacs that I ever saw were two generations of Grand Prixs, 1962-64and ofcoarse 1969-72!!!.

  • The Impala was built on a larger platform then GTO, Skylark, and Cutless. The comparable Chevrolet would be the Malibu. The Chevy Impala would be the same size as a Pontiac Ventura in 1967.

  • i was jr in high school my neighbor had a 67 with tri power. Great car, always wanted one but never had one. I think it was the best looking of the GTOs.

  • One of my old high school buddies had a 67 GTO that he hopped up (his dad owned one of the biggest mechanic shops in the town where we lived [Huntsville Alabama] so he could afford to buy all of the latest and greatest hop up gear). It had well over 400 hp which was practically unheard of back then. Besides being one of the fastest cars in town, it was also one of the best looking cars in town (Navy Blue).

    • As a fellow Huntsville native, just curious do you know if that car is still around town? I use to go to all the car shows around here and I distinctly recall a navy blue 67 gto that was at several of them. I was always in a mustang but took particular notice of the gto and any Pontiacs that were at each show as my family was heavily into Pontiacs when I was a kid. My grandfather worked at what was once Bentley Pontiac for decades and my stepdad owned a solar gold 78 trans am when I was a kid

  • I enjoyed your video. I have a couple thoughts. The GTO shared its underbody with the Chevrolet Chevelle, not the Impala SS as mentioned. Also, notice that the top fender contour that you pointed out does not continue into the door contour ( 5:23) . That is because the door was shared with the Chevelle body. Even though a 4 spd manual has one more gear than a 3 spd hydramatic they both feature a 1:1 top gear ratio so top speed may be similar (with similar rear final drive gear ratio) except for the small difference because of torque convertor slippage. Good job featuring a beautiful GTO with the relatively rare column shift automatic!!

    • My dad had a 67 Firebird and he said that the two speed powerglide automatic is a vastly underrated transmission he would always say that’s what the driver racers wanted because it shifted only one time

  • The '66 or '67 GTO s have always been my absolute favorite muscle car of the '60s, with the '68 and '69 GTOs running a close second. I love everything about them but lines are beautiful, the interior is fantastic, I even love the steering wheels! I'm a big fan of the stacked headlights also; I love them on the other '60s Pontiac models that had them also. Great video 😃

  • Most Cameo Ivory GTO's in 67 had vinyl tops and black interior. My parents had one of the rarest of the time, and didn't even know it. Cameo Ivory with Turquoise interior , 400 HO, with a/c. Not many manufactured.

  • Not only do I know about the 67 GTO, I owned one for almost 4 years. A ragtop, 400ci, 360hp, 4 speed, 3.90 posi rear. Had a lot of fun with this car for the time I had it. Traded it with 68K miles. Wish I still had it !

  • Love when you show the keys--you didn't show them but I could see in passing that they were incorrect. GM had the same key (with a few exceptions) from '35-'66. In 1967 they started using a rotating system of keyway for the trunk/glove: A/B; C/D; E/H; and J/K. In 1967 they began the rotation with the new keyways but kept the old hex/pear head shapes. Beginning in '69 they kept the new keyway system for the blades but moved to a square/oval head to accommodate the look of the new column ignition switches. The correct key for the '67 GTO is a hex head with "A" keyway. The ones in the video with the square head, while they have the correct blade for the '67, did not come into use until the '71 model year.

    • I was going to ask which one was your favorite but since you had to of one year I figured that was your favorite.. that’s crazy that you have a post car those things are so rare.. I honestly have never seen one in person I’ve seen a convertible I’ve seen the hardtop but I’ve never seen the post car

    • The 66 is going thru a frame off restoration, The post car is just a nice driver and a 4 speed to boot , you can romp on it without any fear of stone chips, interior is mint as well as the engine bay, the convertible had 1 repaint but could use another but cleaned up you can hardly tell, took me 8 yrs to get this car off my friend's mom and at an unbelevable price.

  • First car I got to drive was dad's new '66 GTO, tripower, close ratio 4 speed, 4.33 track gears, no power steering, AC, or power brakes. I used to power shift it, I was 17 years old, wild kid in a fast car. And to us, GTO stood for Gas, Tires, and Oil. In 1966,they were fast cars used for racing.

  • You're right on the "Shifting the automatic transmission". I've done that in my Toyota Rav-4 in the summer time. I find the automatic wants to shift naturally around 2000 rpm's, but if you shift it manually, you can lock out the tranny and shift it when it hits 4-6000 rpms. Thankfully I have a Tach built into the Toyota so i can see those shift points.

  • Those wipers? Non OEM. Anco-anti-wind lift, very popular in the 60's and 70's. I sold a lot of them. Much better than Trico from the factory. (Anco by the way is now owned by Trico as of 3/21/19. They also now own Fram filters, Raybestos brakes and other) Found a pair on Ebay 15" they wanted 49.99 for them. Good review, nice example. That said? My favorite was the 64 GTO. A nice ad to your info would be what rear end ratios were avaliable. For example: 64 GTO. 3.08-3.23-3.36-3.55-3.90 all avaliable as options. Today? You pretty much get what you get. You sure caught up from last week!

  • I purchased a 1966 GTO in 1976 that was rusting away after the original owner died in Vietnam. I paid $300, but as a 16 year old I wasn't going to restore it on a $1.25 hr. 10 hour a week job, so I resold it a year later for $300 to a guy that blew the motor right away. I swear mine had the 389 four barrel with 3 speed manual, now my 1967 Catalina had the 400, and it was a tire burner.

  • Good. Times . Only! Great. To. Own. The G.O.A.T - own one and understand. my '67 is my first car and my lifetime car - mine has a 428 and a 4 speed - 34 years own ownership and it feels like hangin' out with an old friend every time I drive it... Thank god for the Muscle Car Era!

  • Never had a 67 GTO but had three 66 and 68 GTO’s. My favorite car is the 66 GTO just a few differences one in particular that make the 66 and 67 different besides the grill and rocker molding and engine. It’s the taillights in the 66 that makes it stand out over the 67 and also the 68 is a nice looking car as well. My 68 had the 400 with the 4sp with the hidden headlights. If I remember the name of the color was forest green. It had black interior buckets with console and 4sp it was a nice car but the 66 is my favorite. Good old days and memories

  • Yes the sunken rear window or buttress was nice looking . The 68-70 Charger had a similar design rear window. Of course, it wasn’t great for airflow at high speeds and that’s why the 69 Charger 500 and Daytona Charger had flush rear window , as they were required homologation for using that body design in NASCAR. 66 or 67 might be best looking GTO . Definitely a looker and iconic.

  • Hi Justin, I mentioned that in a previous video that on a GM 3 speed automatic that "S" stood for "second" as in second gear. It is apparent that I stand to be corrected, GM calls it "super". The 1966-1967 Pontiac Tempest/LeMans/GTO was a Coke bottle design, meaning that the door area of the body is narrower than the front fenders and rear quarter panels. The wings you see on either side of the rear glass are called sail panel extension's, as on a 1968-1970 Dodge Charger. The windshield wiper blade air deflectors on the car is "aftermarket". The column shifted automatic transmission and the power window option on this GTO is VERY RARE. Please reply. Dave...

  • Yeah, this was pretty good. Did you know Jay, that at the same time the fastest four door production car in the world, was the Ford Australia, GTHO Phase III, 5.8 Litre? With a top speed of 140 MPH carrying passengers and camera gear. Ford were going to produce a Phase 4 variant, and the government banned them.

People were buying them (for homologation) they had to make a minimum of 500 for public sale, but of course they sold a lot more. Family cars loaded with the kids, and a big black shaker sticking out on the bonnet. (hood) They sounded like they had eaten bears at idle. They were still called the 'Falcon' of course.

  • Not being an expert. I have been told that there was a HO and ram air option for ‘67 and also the first year for a tape deck and auto trans . The hood mounted tack was a dealer installed option although ordered . Car came with F 70 redline wide oval tires originally. Again ..... this is info I’ve been told by someone that supposed to be a GTO expert.

  • My neighbors had a '67 Tempest coupe that is basically the same car, but with a 326 small block instead of the 389 big block. Always thought it was a pretty car. Reliable too.

    • Yeah the song says three juices in a four-speed in a 39 this one doesn’t have a 389 has a 400 so it wouldn’t go with this car so I thought stairway to Heaven would be a good alternative.. Why not say the torque and horsepower were very strong?

  • The stacked headlights and the grill partition were all Pontiac of the 1960/70s. The sail pillars in the rear of the roof line were indigenous to GM cars, the 1966 Malibu/Chevelle; 1966 Olds 4-4-Deuce; and the 1966 Buick GS up until 1967, as stated the body style changed in 1968 the 1966/67 Dodge Charger sail pillars were not as prominent as GMs, furthermore, the Chargers had a pure fastback design. The Coke bottle design usually meant the short deck lid and long hood designs of the 1960s and '70s... examples: The 1967 Camaros first generation; 1971-74 AMC Javelin; 1970s Plymouth/Dodge Hemi Cudas/Challengers; 1968 Dodge/Plymouth Chargers/GTX 2nd generation; 1967-68 Ford Mustang GT 500; and 1968-72 Pontiac GTOs, et al just to name a few! In my youth I use to read automotive journalists such as Uncle Tom McCahill of Mechanix Illustrated; Brock Yates of Car and Driver; Robert Cumberford of Road and Track et al. To me... it's just no fun driving an automatic- unless you're drag racing! Bor-ing! I've never owned one!!!

  • Interesting video but it gives the impression that hot cars were common in the sixties. They really weren't that numerous back then. In total maybe one car in twenty was capable of going from 0-60 mph in under 9 seconds. The GTO was one of those hot cars and it was the most common one because it was probably the cheapest. The Tempest was an affordable compact car and the GTO option only added about 10% to the base price. Basically anyone that could afford a Tempest could also afford the GTO but the cars still weren't all that common. The vast majority of GTO buyers were single men under 25 years old and they only had their goats until they got a wife. As soon as they were married with a kid on the way things changed. It did not take long before the wives forced them to trade in their exciting hot cars for boring but more practical vehicles like station wagons. No woman would tolerate competiton from hot cars for their husband's affection so it was one or the other. Men that chose to keep the hot car soon became extinct. As we used to say in the sixties, "Children are hereditary. If your parents didn't have kids neither will you."

  • The 1967 Chevy Impala SS was a "B-body" (along with the Charger and Plymouth's GTX) and the GTO was not in competition with them. The Chevy B body had a 119-inch wheelbase and the GTO had a 115-inch wheelbase until 1968 when all GM A-bodies went to a 116-inch wheelbase. I owned a 1966 GTO 389/335-hp 4-Bbl., A-body, I brought in 1969; a 1969 Buick GS-400 Stage-1 A-body, brought in 1970, wheelbase 116-inches after I sold the GTO/Buick, I then bought a 1969 Plymouth GTX 440/375-hp in 1972, wheelbase 117 inches. I have no brand loyalty- I'm a muscle-car enthusiast. Today I drive a 1998 Ford Mustang 4.6L convertible- at 71 years of age it's not your average '98!

    • I've had a few A bodies a long time ago, so I used to be into this stuff. If I remember correctly, GM had a 117 inch wheelbase for the 4 door cars and a 113 inch wheelbase for the 2 doors from 68-72. This gave GM a small weight advantage over the Fords and Mopars, which shared the same wheelbase between 2 and 4 door cars. It's been a while, so I hope my memory serves me correctly. 🙂🫡

  • Ferrari history with the GTO name was always a bit sketchy because its a description not a trademark, so really anyone could use it. Ferrari built the 250 GTO to race in FIA's Group 3 Grand Touring series, but had to make enough production cars to qualify or be 'allowed' (i.e. homologated, or Omologato). BTW, Ferrari never made enough cars to meet the letter of the rule, but it was Europe and this was Ferrari, so everyone shrugged and let it happen. Far as I know, only the leather driving glove, Road & Track set had their speedos in a twist about Pontiac using the name. Ferrari never had grounds to sue.

  • Was the 67 Goat, the "best" MC of the 60s? 1st you need ta define.."BEST". If you're a Mopar, Chevy, or a Ford fan, the answer would probably be different. Amongst Pontiac lovers, would it be the "best" GTO? To me, I would like a 67, with a 66 nose. Not a fan of the 66 tail. 67 looks much cleaner. Plus, it would need-ta be a stick shift Preferably a 360 HP RA motor, with a 3.90 rear. The Goat in the video is for women. And thanks again for posting.

  • This is a very vanilla review of the 67 GTO. while I agree that it's the best looking of the muscle cars, most of them were either 4 spds, or the Hurst "his and hers" dual-gate console mounted turbo 400's. I owned a 67 400 HO YZ block (360 HP car dynoed stock at 410) for 33 years with a 3.55 rear and the Hurst dual-gate. The best way to demonstrate it's ability is to jump it from a dead stop. That car would plant my 105lb. fiancée, now wife of 40 yrs, against her seat and she couldn't even reach the "Jesus bar" on the glovebox. It hooked up extremely well, leaving a Posi patch for about 3 ft. and just launching as the front end pulled the slack out of the springs and shocks. Yet, it also handled remarkable well in the corners. I should have kept it, but it needed about $15k of restoration, before they took off. I sold it and bought a 96 Porsche 993 Targa, which is a blast of a different sort and then bought a new 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP with the LS3 that does a 13 second qtr. off the showroom floor and handles like it's on rails with 415HP. Despite all of that , I miss replacing the accelerator pump in the Quadrajet every spring since the rubber plunger went bad over the winter, and the 20 minute replacement of the spark plugs every few months because they fouled off in traffic every holiday weekend while cruising at the park ( 20 mins= no power steering, brakes or AC). Those were the days. BTW the song it ran best to was Stepping Wolf " Heading out the Highway, lookin for adventure" although that's probably not the title.

  • On that 67 GTO another dead giveaway is the horn cap on the steering wheel Tempest only had a two little buttons on the steering wheel the real GTO in LeMans steering wheel horn cap is in the middle beep the horn in the middle not on the sides the steering wheel that's another giveaway been dealing with Pontiacs all my life I know every nut and bolt to a GTO from 64 to 69❤😊

    • Believe it or not did you know the Lamont's 67 Lemont and also 66 LeMans they had the 326 cubic inch motor but in the LeMans 3:26 cubic inch motor The Factory 4 barrel version had Believe It or Not had 210 horsepower to 225 hp what they call the high output 326 specially if it came with a what a four-speed it had the high output and it was very responding little motor people taking consideration back in the day they they either wanted a 389 cubic inch or a 400 cubic inch but that only came in GTO and Catalina or Grand Prix Tempest only six cylinder or an anemic 326

  • I gotta say, mine was much nicer. Just like this one, but a post, which I like more than the hardtop. I also had the his/her shifter in the console. Carpet was black. Purchased in 1974 with 59,000 on the clock for 800.00. I raced it to death. Oh, and the windows were manual.
