Did This Couple Launder Billions of Dollars in Bitcoin?
In the crypto world, lack of experience isn’t always a barrier to fortune or notoriety. Take the 2016 Bitfinex hack, which led to charges against a rapper named Razzlekhan and her startup-guy husband.
One of the most enduring mysteries in the world of cryptocurrencies was resolved Thursday when Ilya Lichtenstein acknowledged that he was the hacker who executed the 2016 attack on the Bitfinex exchange.
Lichtenstein, along with his social-media rapper wife, who dubbed herself the “Crocodile of Wall Street,” pleaded guilty to a money-laundering conspiracy tied to the theft of billions of dollars of Bitcoin from the exchange. Who executed the exploit has been the biggest guessing games in crypto after the identity of Bitcoin’s pseudonymous creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.
Lichtenstein, 35, admitted during a hearing on Thursday before US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly that he orchestrated the hack, which took 119,756 Bitcoin from Bitfinex. He faces as long as 20 years in prison.

Do you think Razzlekhan and Dutch pulled off the biggest crypto heist in history?
Is there any reason you failed to expose SBF in July when your newsroom was presented with tangible evidence of his fraudulent behaviour.

They were ahead of their time. The role models of SBF and his whood nymph. In a world where meme dorks are worshipped, from Liver King to Elon Musk, even her "rap" career made sense.

10 years of one cold email per day is definitely NOT more than 10k emails 😂
She said "at least". One email per day for 10 years is 3,650 so it's not that far off.
@@ktktktktktktkt err, that's just over a third. Pretty sure you wouldn't like to buy something and find you only got 1/3 of the product!
@@james.telfer as I said before, she said "at least" so the "1" means almost nothing in the context. The dataset of the number of emails she sent each day during the time period could have a minimum of 1 but as long as the average is at least about 3, her statement that she's sent at least 10k emails is not false.

The penalties are far too lenient and should be tough. Hackers know what they are doing. Only extremely harsh penalties also deter.
Which is the bigger crime? Stealing some crypto "currency"? The creation of a crypto "currency"? or Setting up a crypto "currency" exchange? (freely stolen from Bertolt Brecht ;-)

people turn hoops trying to articulate Heather when basically the word idiot is fine.
?
this netflix tv show appears again
All of it is simply a distraction technique.
I have seen every documentary about these people and not once do they focus on how the hack happened. I doubt that these idiots hacked an exchange and instead were instead hired to clean hacked funds and so ended up with the funds. Its one thing having burner phones, but these phones were in a ziplock bag and even labeled "Burner Phones". Why? Did they have their normal phones labeled "Non-Burner Phones"? It makes no sense except when it is a set up
I know, all I've gathered is that social engineering was used
If someone else competent was in charge wouldn't they have done a better job getting the money? Or spread it out among multiple people?
They didn't do the hack it seems. They were the fools who thought they could launder the money...or they were patsies. But how did the hacker contact them? I certainly don't trust the FBI or IRS. They needed to score. Too many questions.
Thanks for sharing my clip!

I think she didnt know were the money really came from. Her job was only spend it. And i think he knows a lot.
Then what was up with her trying to lock the cellphone? I guess she could have been aware that the money wasn't completely legit without knowing exactly why.
The problem with this story is not what we are told, but what the media doesn't question or ask. I have yet to see any connection whatsoever that they stole the Bitcoin. Somehow they wound up with access to that Bitcoin and stored it in an incredibly sloppy and amateur way. It's obvious they didn't hack it. But how did they end up with it? Not a single story I've watched or read even dares peek into how they got it, and that my friends is a much bigger and more interesting tale.
I seen somewbere that her job was to get some info by social engneering, she pretended to be a journalist or job applicant flirted with some employees of bitfinex and then some group helped her with tbe acuail hacking
@@mathewgrelr7084 The hack was pretty sophisticated considering the level of security that would be in place for the private keys to all that. Makes me wonder if it's dumb luck, like Llewelyn Moss finding that suitcase full of money from a Cartel drug deal gone bad in No Country For Old Men. Or more sinister, someone hacked it, told her, and her and her hubby killed them for it.
They weren't charged with the hack. The media had to be careful about what they said given that. But Dutch has since given a fairly in depth explanation and the DOJ have said they don't think anyone else is involved. It's a combination of Dutch being a lot more skilled of a hacker than he may seem, and Bitfinex having awful security. He got in and basically just sat on it for weeks, watching how it worked, and doing nothing and then struck all at once. All the technical stuff - the way they spiderwebbed it through various wallets, the way they laundered it with alphabay and other darknet markets, etc was all Dutch. It seems Heather was mostly involved in charming people at crypto exchanges to keep accounts they wanted to freeze or close as open for long as possible. But yeah it seems like it was all them.

It's possible that they didn't steal it themselves, IE do the actual hack. Someone else may have done it and passed on the money to them. But there doesn't seem to be any evidence for that. The title should be steal imo.
@@adrianthoroughgood1191 on the contrary, the fact that they haven't been charged with actually stealing the money suggests that they weren't the original thieves.
