  • I was born in Sydney and have lived here my whole life. I love watching travel vlogs of people visiting Sydney for the first time and seeing their excitement and appreciation for all the things that make our city great. It helps me not to take it for granted and reminds me how blessed I am to live here!

  • Welcome to Sydney! I'm really loving your videos. You're both very likeable, the content is seriously authentic and the extra effort to research the correct pronnounciation of place names is seriously appreciated. Saying Bond-eye, not Bond-ee, earns you brownie points 🙂. 9:40: @Tia Ocean facing houses in Bronte and Tamarama will range from between $10M for an older, relatively undestated 3 bedroom house to upwards of $30M for some of the more palatial modern abodes. 14:31 @Cheveyo while the Vivid tourist cruises are expensive, for a real taste of Sydney you should use the reasonably priced public transport ferries. I can tell you from personal experience that catching a ferry to work in the city during summer is without a doubt the best way to commute. Take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly during the day (as it's a muuuch better beach than Bondi) and then time your journey back to the city (or even better Barangaroo) so you catch the sunset over the harbour and city skyline. You'll even arrive back in time to see Vivid from the water. No need to pay $120. I can't wait to see the rest of your journey! So glad I found your channel before you really blow up. Travel companies and tourism boards should be paying you to promote destinations.

    • And just because those mansions aren't kep that way (to keep getting more expensive) out of people (who can afford them) just settling in those homes and keeping them that way, the law literally prevents any increases in supply to reflect demand that is obviously very strong for those areas. So instead of looking like Kings Cross or something, you just get some huge private mansions on very well-located valuable urban land. And that causes sprawl because it offsets the housing that does get built further and further away.

    • Absolutely agree with the ferry suggestion. For anyone, its a fairly cheap, quick tour of the harbour, passing the Naval Base (Garden Island) with all its history. (It got attacked in WW2) You can definitly do roon's suggestion, or, If you turn right at the pedestrian road from the ferry at Manly you can walk to Shelley beach for food/swim, and walk up to the headlands there for an Ocean view and a nice shady place to have some more food or a rest.

  • Welcome to our wonderful city. My great, etc grandfather landed just where you were standing, from a ship called the Coromandel, in the year 1802. He brought his family with him, and with twelve other families, settled in the Hawkesbury River valley and started farming there. The efforts of these farmers literally saved the colony, as the convicts, soldiers and sailors who had come out earlier had no idea of how to farm, especially to farm land so different to England...

  • Pinchgut or Ford Denision was not built as a prison. It was built to protect the inner harbour and particularly during the Crimean War in the mid 1800’s as the Colony was concerned about the Russians entering Sydney. I was used to place convicts on the actually island earlier in Sydney’s history on starvation diet. Hence the name “ Pinch Gut”

FYI Hemsworth is a major sponsor of Aussie Ark, a program to establish colonies of Tasmanian devils on mainland Australia, including one near my town/city of Newcastle, NSW. We go from subtropical rainforest to montane snow gum communities in less than 30km along parts of the NSW north coast: the Barrington Tops (1550 m/4750 ft) is where the Tassie devil colony is being established.

  • Once you start to head north from Sydney you're in for a treat on the NSW North Coast. I'd highly recommend spending some time around Coffs Harbour and Bellingen, that are around half way to Brisbane. Must do''s around Bellingen include hiking in the World Heritage listed rainforests around Dorrigo (Dangar Falls and the Wonga Walk including Crystal Shower Falls are standouts) checking out Bellingen (great food and atmosphere), the boardwalks at Urunga (the famous rivermouth one, and also the new wetlands walk if you're there near sunrise). And at Coffs you have the walk through the marina to Muttonbird Island (great views and one of many whalespotting opportunities), the Forest Sky Pier lookout for unrivalled coastal views, two beautiful Sikh temples in Woolgoolga, or (local tip) if it looks like a good sunset, grabbing fish and chips from Sea Salt in Sawtell's fabulous main street), and eating them on Sawtell Headland as the sun goes down over the mountains. As well as the Big Banana, the OG '"Big Thing''. If you visit the Banana, check out the candymakers - they're more impressive than the Banana! Coffs is also a two-Aldi town! Between Sydney and Coffs places definitely worth considering checking out are South West Rocks (convict jail, lighthouse, super pretty coastal scenery - the short Jack Perkins track from the lighthouse to a small nearby beach is fabulous on a sunny winter day) or talking the Lakes Way between Bulahdelah and Taree (fabulous scenery and lighthouse at Seal Rocks, sunsets over the lake at Elizabeth Beach, the giant sand dune right in town at One Mile Beach in Forster). Between Coffs and Brisbane, as well as obligatory Byron Bay (walk to the lighthouse from The Pass), Yamba is fantastic but quite summer-oriented, and Brunswick Heads is more like the Byron that everyone fell in love with 40 years ago than Byron is today. Happy travels - been following your trip since Perth, and curious to see what you make of our part of Australia now you're here (I lived most of my life in Sydney, and now we're up where you're heading to next).

  • So glad you came to my home town! I used to live in Coogee where you got on the bus. It’s great. Now on the Northern Beaches. A few observations: - Sydney has excellent south East Asian food, especially as you get out of the CBD. Example, Marrickville has very good banh mi. We’re a nation of (mostly) immigrants and we love food. - yes Bondi was quiet but it will be absolutely packed in summer. Bondi is the finish line for the largest fun run in the world, the City to Surf (usually around 80k ppl) - I would recommend people check out Manly and the Northern Beaches as much as Bondi. Same nice beaches but with a different, more laid back vibe and far less crowded. Cleaner too in my opinion. You can catch the ferry from Circular Quay and the walk to Shelley Beach is to die for. The Pittwater region and Palm Beach are postcard worthy too. - to answer your question, property in Sydney is crazy expensive considering we’re the second least densely populated country in the world behind Mongolia. Expect to pay probably $1.5m for your average 2 bed apartment in Bondi. PLENTY more for the oceanside properties you walked past. - while it’s hard to argue Opera House/Harbour Bridge/Botanic Gardens isn’t iconic and naturally where people would gravitate to first, Sydney Harbour has many more gems, including Middle Harbour, Bradley’s Head where Taronga Zoo is, Balmoral, the Spit to Manly Walk, Watson’s Bay, Rose Bay and heaps of other beautiful spots. - well done timing your visit with Vivid. I drive home over the Harbour Bridge every day and it never ceases to inspire me. - I’m going to encourage people NOT to spend much time in the CBD. Having seen quite a few world cities, it’s fairly standard and not our selling point, except for the harbour around it. Hey great channel. I found you because I’m heading to Cairns later in the year for the first time and devouring any related content. Your video was great and I’ll definitely be doing a similar circuit in the Daintree. Subscribed!

I think some of us take Australia for granted and aren't that easily impressed so it's been a gift to watch you approach everything with enthusiasm and honesty (Cheveyo, I share your feelings about the big Merino). On another note, can I just apologise on behalf of Australians at the price of the Sydney Harbour Walk. That's absolute bs. I have just come home after spending 10 years in Paris, France and Bologna, Italy where things are so much cheaper than they are in Australia.

Sydney is sadly one of the most expensive places to live in the world even in the suburbs, let alone the beachfront mansions 😬😬 Glad you guys enjoyed Syndey! There's heaps to do there, I holidayed there for a week a few years ago and loved it ❤ Also the lifeguards who work on those beaches are actual heroes. There used to be this great TV show called Bondi Rescue that showed what they did on a daily basis (particularly in the summer months when those beaches are packed) and how many lives they save - they are kind of legendary! So ritzy lifeguard stations are a must haha

  • Welcome to Sydney, guys. Enjoy! It is ironic that, when the Harbor Bridge was built in the 1930s, there were critics saying it was TOO big and would never be used to full capacity. Kind of different now. Quite the story behind Fort Dennison. It was originally just this big rock island and, in the convict days, earned the name 'Pinchgut Island' because REALLY bad convicts would be chained up and left there to starve. Then, the Colony's Governor woke up one morning (in the mid 1800s), and saw a fleet of warships moored out in the harbor - and they DEFINITELY hadn't been there the night before. Fortunately, they were friendlies, a squadron of the US Navy that had basically slipped in unnoticed overnight for a visit. It was decided then that Sydney needed better defenses, and so we got Fort Dennison. In ww2, there was a battle with Japanese submarines in the Harbor, during which the Fort took a glancing hit from the guns of USS Chicago - the mark from that can still be seen. "Darling" was the name of one of NSW's early Governors. You'll find his name comes up in various places. 'Macquarie" was another Governor - you'll find his name EVERYWHERE. Plenty to see and do in Sydney. One thing I suggest for your consideration is to check out Taronga Zoo. Use the ferry from Circular Quay, not a bus. Good ferry ride to a very good zoo (Sydney's oldest) AND it has the kind of views that rich people would probably sell their own children to have.

    @scottwilliam6141@scottwilliam614111 ай бұрын
  • Thanks for the great review! As a Sydneysider I would make a few comments and recommendations. It is winter in Sydney right now, a nice time of year for generally fine days, blue skies and pleasant daytime temperatures (cool mornings!!), but that certainly accounts for the quiet beaches - water temperature is quite ok this time of year, about 19 degrees Celsius (perfectly swimmable all year), just that the prevailing offshore winds are not conducive to decent surf conditions for swimmers, so you'll find board riders and dedicated ocean swimmers, and the odd tourist, but summer and early autumn (up until the end of April) is when conditions are best, and when the beaches are busiest - between Christmas and New Year you'll find them absolutely packed (and also beaches other than Bondi are not patrolled in the cooler weather, so if you aren't experienced with surf beaches, swim at your own risk)!!! Bondi is Australia's most famous beach, but it is not Sydney's nicest by a long way. In terms of the Eastern/City beaches, Bronte and Coogee (on the Bondi walk) are much prettier, as are all of the Northern Beaches - Palm Beach is particularly lovely, and Bilgola set in it's little valley in a Cabbage Tree Palm forest. A number of the harbour beaches on both sides of the harbour are also lovely - Balmoral, Clifton Gardens, Chinaman's (if a bit racist 😲), Parsley Bay, Milk Beach, Camp Cove, Shark Beach in Nielson Park etc. The view from Sydney Tower gives a great perspective of Metropolitan Sydney and its topography, from the ocean to the Harbour to the Blue Mountains to the west. If you don't want to pay for an expensive harbour cruise, the commuter ferries are a very affordable way to see Sydney on a nice sunny day. I would recommend a train to Meadowbank and then River Cat into Circular Quay, which gives you a great perspective of the western reaches of the Harbour/Parramatta River, and change ferries for the Manly Ferry. Once at Manly, walk down the Corso to the ocean beach, then walk south around the bay to Shelley Beach, a nice protected spot for swimming and snorkelling, and for a picnic or coffee/lunch from the beachside eatery. Then if possible, get up to the lookouts at North Head for a spectacular view of the ocean, the entrance to Port Jackson (the harbour), and back to the city (bit of a walk from the ferry/beach, but 161 bus gets you to the Quarantine Station in the Sydney Harbour National Park, and it's about a 1.5km walk to North Head - and if you are in luck you might see an echidna or 2!) If you have access to a car, the drive from Manly to Palm Beach is incredible, and each of the more than a dozen ocean beaches are so different to each other. At Palm Beach you can walk up the beach to the Barenjoey Headland, and up to the lighthouse for an amazing view of Broken Bay, Pittwater and the beaches of the lower Central Coast north of the Hawkesbury River. You can then drive around Pittwater (marvelling at the thousands of yachts moored) and through the Kuringai National Park to West Head, with even more stunning views, as well as bushwalks etc (and Kangaroos, Goannas and other wildlife). The view is at its best on a sunny day in the cooler parts of the year as the air is clearest due to the offshore winds and lack of salt sprays in the air, and the sun being lower in the sky gives the light a more golden hue. If time permits, a trip to the Blue Mountains is well worth it. This 1million hectares of World Heritage wilderness, but you can access some great walks and lookouts from close proximity to the main Western train line and the towns/suburbs of the Blue Mountains along the train/Great Western Highway. Try Wentworth Falls (great relatively short walk down the falls and along the valley to The Valley of the Waters and back), Leura, Katoomba (the Three Sisters is a bit of a distance from the station, but well worth it), the lookouts near Blackheath (Grand Canyon, Govett's Leap, Perry's Lookdown etc), and a great view as well as high tea from the restored heritage Hydro Majestic Hotel at Medlow Bath. And in winter, one or two snow falls most seasons!

  • A minor point: Fort Denison was never a prison. It was a defence gun emplacement to stop foriegn (enemy) war ship venturing up the parramatta river to Parramatta and the original Government House,and Observatory. It is a Martello tower with a12inch (?) gun pionting straight down the outer habour. and any sailing vessel coming in would have had to cross in front of it and risk being blown out of the water. The prison island in Sydney Harbour was Cockatoo island just west of the bridge, it is now an entertainment precinct.
