Court level view of Daniil Medvedev (Russia) & Dan Evans (United Kingdom) playing a practice set at the 2022 Australian Open in 4K 60FPS! With a scoreboard and slow motion replays!
This is part of the journey Medvedev took to reach the final of the 2022 Aus Open against the one and only Rafael Nadal! Medvedev is an amazing tennis player with great all court skills. With his exceptional feel and anticipation of shots, we can expect to see him in the finals of many Grand Slams and major tournaments. Here you can see him putting in the hard work, running after every ball and expending lots of energy!
I also think it's nice to watch tennis without the commentary so you can form your own thoughts about the game.
Technical analysis:
Medvedevs technique is so different to other top ATP players which just goes to show that there is no one technique that is "correct".
The differences are especially apparent in his groundstrokes where many would assume he is not professional if they would watch his groundstrokes in practice.
Medvedev uses halfway between an eastern and semi-western forehand grip and uncommonly prepares with his racket high above his hand/head. He has a bent elbow at contact.
His groundstrokes are flat in terms of trajectory and height over the net but still have quite abit of heaviness (spin).
A very specific part of his tennis that I think he does very well is when he gets brought to the net by a dropshot, he can rip the ball wherever he likes. This is a difficult shot as you need to hit the ball up over the net as you are close yet have enough control to let it dip into the court!
For a 6'6" (198cm) tall tennis player, he moves extraordinarily well! You can see him reach balls that you'd assume he can't in this video.
As for Evans, he has an incredible single handed backhand that is very consistant with his simple technique and a more unique forehand. He uses an eastern forehand grip with a high preparation with his right elbow which can help prevent being late at contact with the ball. He also has a bent elbow at contact.
The video may look blurry at times but that is because of the dirty glass unfortunately, although it shouldn't last long like that as I tried to move the camera away from it as much as possible.
Hope you enjoyed and leave a like 👍 if you enjoyed as that's the best way to support my channel!

    • I think we will be seeing more of this angle on the near future from TV broadcasts. It's literally adding another dimension to tennis besides left and right movement, but also height over the net.

  • every single time daniil makes the cross backhand coming forward, with pace and angle. Lethal strong point, Players should avoid any drop shot on his backhand side if they are not 100% sure to make the point on it.

    • That's exactly what I noticed. Such consistancy and pace he can return dropshots as an offensive ball. With his incredible movent around the court, you need to play dropshots to perfection against Medvedev.

  • Evans and Med seem to be good friends. They practiced together and joke around at Indian Wells last year. Medvedev hit many drop shots that Evans got so tired at the end of the practice and complained to Medvedev 😆

    • Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Medvevdev uses the crowd thats against him to eenergize him but can also have a negative impact as you say. It's hard to tell if the crowd has more of a negative or positive impact on Medvedev. Either way, these different characters and personalities is what I believe tennis needs to be more entertaining.

    @bobbyearles4230@bobbyearles42302 жыл бұрын
    • In my opinion, Medvevdev. Zverev has a better backhand technically speaking, but somehow medvedev with his obscure backhand makes alot of balls in and deep in the court.

    @i1shadow361@i1shadow3612 жыл бұрын
  • evans didn't use one handed back hand much this set. If the ball came to his back hand he would slice almost 100% of the time. If you keep slicing you just don't win the raly against someone like medvedev. If you don't hit winners you will lose to him 100%. You can notice that almost all evans points were serve&voley or for hand + go to the net. In other words, Medvedev knows that his back hand sucks/evans has no confidence at the shot so he kept throwing the ball at it. If it were a real match that would have been the same strategy. One handed back hands are gorgeous, but a worse shot than the 2H back hand overall imo. 2hbh has just more consistency, have an easier time with low and high balls. All the the 1Hbh has going for it is his cross cort angle and that it is cool.
