Dang, boy, since I stumbled across your vids, I've been binge watching you guys with those fabulous huge machines/vehicles/whatchamacallits. I never even knew a lot of this stuff even existed. The biggest vehicle I ever owned was a Nissan minivan. Love your vids and the work you do and the joy you all exude. Great editing, great voiceovers, and stop apologizing. • For next time, try a shorter rope of maybe 10 feet. this way as you pull, you lift up the stuck buss and transfer the weight on the rear of the freedom bus and pulls it up out of the hole. As a retired farmer I have used this trick hundreds of times. This is why you got it out when you doubled up your line shortening it by half. This is why you always won in a tug of war because you transfer their weight to your bus!

  • Two thoughts: first, get another pair of wheels and make an adapter so that you can mount them as duallies on the rear once you get to where you offload the bus from the lowboy. Second, get two strong beams that you can shackle together at one end. Run the tow rope through the shackle and upright the beams into an A-frame with the tow rope high. Once you start pulling, the A-frame will also give you lift up angle as well as pull forward. You may also want to make a pair of jack pads so that the A-frame legs do not sink when pulling. The A-frame can be used with the recovery truck as well.

  • I sorely missed diesel Dave on this one. Glad Hunter came through without getting squished, that vid of him ghosting was awesome and a good warning for others who would try it. The freedom bus strikes me as underutilized in several ways. She’s one hell of a tool for the lake bed leaving me to think she should have a place closer to the terrain she’s comfortable in. (I see it as a she because she rides gently and with those gears she always makes sure you know she’s doing a good job.). That girl could probably help a lot more people out there on the lake. I look forward to seeing you take what you learned here and rigging her and some specialty gear for rescues such as this and worse.

  • Respect for your work Bro', you think on your feet, and don't let the challenges get you down. I'm a retired solo Aussie Treelopper, a high climber needed when the job can't be reached by crane, etc. Rig em up, cut and swing, it's about mechanics, physics, etc. But one never stops learning, and the challenge to do what others baulk at is the adrenaline surge we crave. The Blue Mountains offer some interesting finds too, but even a retired Lopper can always learn from the next generation. Be safe young man.

  • Since you're an audio guy here's a tip for whoever's doing your editing. When you do have a piece where you have talking over wind noise - when you get are editing use a high pass filter to filter everything below 500hz or so. The most annoying part of wind noise is the low frequency buffeting. You can try to EQ by rolling noise off on up higher than 500hz until it ceases to interfere with the vocals. The one place where it would have worked great in this video is a short bit when you've got both wind noise & engine noise that would have benefitted noticeably from the roll off I suggested. But also below 100 hz will take out the low frequency buffeting.
