The Tamarind Seed (1974)
Studio: Incorporated Television Company
Director: Blake Edwards
Writer: Blake Edwards
Cast: Julie Andrews, Omar Sharif
I first saw this in the theater in 1974 as a teenager, and it has resonated with me ever since then. The last part of the movie, from Omar Sharif sneaking the "Blue File" out of the embassy to the gun battle on the beach in Barbados, was fast paced, suspenseful and dramatic. Even though I already knew how the movie would end, I actually cried this time when I saw Julie Andrews' reaction to finding out that Omar Sharif was still alive. I didn't expect that reaction on my part, and it really speaks to the quality of her acting and the rest of the cast in this and other movies that I grew up with in the 1960s and 70s.
Spoiler alerts, yikes…
Muhteşem di hepside...
Incredible. Such a wonderful movie with no nudity, no car chases, and only one very modest shooting scene.... True masterpiece.
What is wrong with nudity?
@@geraldmiller5260 Well... nothing. Providing what you want to watch is a film for intelligent humans and not a documentary.
Whenever there is a chase, it's where the director run out of ideas.

A nude car chase would have been good.

The great Omar Sharif with gorgeous Julie Andrews... just like a fairy-tale. Fantasy at it's best. True qualities are never lost, they do find their own ways to win our hearts over & over again for decades after decades.❤
What a fabulous film, beautifully portrayed. Julie Andrews seems so innocent and beautiful while Omar Sharif must be one of the most handsome actors that ever lived. Even in his later films, as an old man, he still was so handsome and a pure gentleman. A great film, thank you for the upload.

One of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen Such amazing acting by two iconic actress and actors ❤
Thank you for making me want to watch the movie, but not giving away the whole plot.😊💐
What a gem of a movie!!! Far better than James Bond. The romance between Julie Andrews and Omar Sharif is so touching and subtle, both love each other dearly.....Sharif being so persistent and Andrews so careful. I keep on watching this movie over and over again just to enjoy the romance between Omar and Julie. Thank you for this high resolution upload.
Most decent of you to give the bloody film away.
A very rare combination V good acting V good movie
Omar was awesome as a romantic lover boy in a black and white Arabic film called Nahr Al Hob. He and his future wife Faten Hamama made a great pair. He is of Lebanese origin but the accent here doesn’t sound Arab nor Russian
@@mallutornado how does it sound?

It’s must a greatly ideal film!
Assuming that adults are watching and commenting it is amazing that they mix up the on screen and off screen personalities of the stars. They have been very true to the book in their potrayal of their characters,Omar and Julie. There is style, sophistication, refinement and charm displayed with ease and effortlessness which cannot be said of most stars of today.
@@maryearll3359 don't you agree with her Why not
@@yashodadevi9287 Thank you for posting your question. I didn't understand what you meant so I looked back and saw my Nn, still don't understand why I did that - I've deleted it. I first saw the film about a year ago and loved it. I'm a very amateur singer and when asked whose voice I admire the most, the answer is Julie Andrews. I am very sad the operation ruined her vocal chords and ask myself to this day how does she come to terms with it? Her interview about it made me know she is as sweet as the characters she played; think Mary Poppins 😊. My first childhood crush was Omar Sherrif - I thought him so cool that he lived in the Ritz for a few years but never could master bridge - he was a world champion for a time. The film itself? I was always a sucker for love and I learned about the tamarind seed at the same time. Sorry for the lengthy reply - just wanted to put the record straight. Have a happy Christmas and thanks again 🤶😘
@@maryearll3359 😊 Merry christmas
Julie Andrews at her most beautiful, complex plot but subtle enough to follow, the Barbados scenery is amazing, the John Barry score is unforgettable, and the sophistication of Edward's direction of wife and Omar Sharif make this an almost forgotten winner. I saw it as a young person so thank you for posting it. It must be seen on your largest screen to convey its romance.
I think they could have cast a better actress.

Watching ! Me too🎥
I first watched this movie sometime in 1983. I can barely describe the nostalgia I am experiencing. Superb movie and I can never forget the haunting score.
Watched it again tonight ... still had me on the edge of my seat. 'Wonder if it will effect my sleep tonight. RIP Omar Sharif. Hope you enjoy several more happy years with your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren (congratulations!) Julie Andrews; wherever you are.
your comment made me watch this movie. you are absolutely right. I regret today's filmmakers lack the ability to produce such movies and the audience lack the capability to appreciate them.
Omar sharif is died 😢
I never understood why this film didn't do better at the box office, it was excellent in every way. I was 16 when it came out, loved it. My mom thought it was bc people wanted her in singing roles again, but to me, she was also an excellent actress, and proves it here.
I remember that too! It wasn't a big hit at all --- can you imagine?! Your mom was probably right, Julie Andrews was a versatile actress but, post-Sound of Music, I think her popularity waned. Or perhaps appeared to; many of us still loved seeing her but Hollywood's style shifted (not for the better) and the executive honchos considered her "irrelevant" or some such nonsense! I thank the person who uploaded this movie; I've wanted to see it for many years and can't wait to finally view it!
I’ll bet this film did well in Britain. Americans were too removed from the Cold War to relate to this. I was in high school when this film came out. We were all about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Robert Redford, Jack Nicholson, etc., very American films. Cold War intrigue in Europe did not intrigue us at that time. Check out Three Days of the Condor and Chinatown for great American films from the 70’s.
Looking back hardly seems possible but many thought Omar Sharif had gone to seed by the time he made this film. He had changed, older than in Lawrence, greying hair. I just thought he got better and better
Actually intellectual people are very much rare in our society
It's because people expected her to fly so like James Bond spy with an umbrella instead of jet pack. That's what I was waiting for.
An under-rated classic. Realistic and deeply moving.
Agreed! An under-rated classic. Love this movie!!!
I did not expect the end to be this, but it is so wonderful. Praise and thank the Lord!

Where are you from
What a gem. Thank you for posting this incredible elegant masterpiece of “romantic-spy” movie. I think I’ve must have heard before about this movie, but shame on me for not watching this before. A time when ppl truly created elaborated and very well constructed plots. Unfortunately nowadays, Hollywood seems to be plagued for ppl who barely knows how to write to “create” ( mostly borrowing from old movies) scripts that vaguely resembles a plot or storytelling. It’s all about explosions, gore and a LOT of sex, vulgarity and violence.... Watching a movie nowadays its like eating a meal without any salt, pepper and sauce...and mostly without any juicy steak on it. The Tamarind Seed is a testament that a good well written plot with a few great and capable actors can be very charming, suspenseful and very entertaining. Unfortunately 90% that are thrown in the theaters will never get even close to the good flicks of the past, Good thing we still have youtube to dig for some forgotten pearls from the past.
That’s about all it’s good for
Whatever you think of the film itself, let's have a hand for another magnificent and under-appreciated score from the one and only Mr John Barry...
BringMe Knitting. You better know it!😄😄
Ha! And I called it. Seems if I really enjoy a film score....it usually turns out to be John Barry's! ;-)
The score is a standout for sure. Its the main character for the montage like central scene of escaping to Barbados.
Many times the music makes the movie for me.
A joy to watch. These were real movies, and real movie stars.
Julie Andrews exudes such uncommon grace, beauty and class. She steals every scene. Unless, of course, Omar Shariff, is playing opposite her. He’s equally captivating. A wonderful movie and superb performances.
Omar Sharif is one of the most handsome actors of his time--of any time. Great movie.
He's very appealing the way he behaves but his actual face is dog
This 1974 romantic espionage drama has ALWAYS captivated me since I first saw it on HBO some 30 years ago. Julie Andrews and Omar Sharif have such *beautiful* romantic (if not intellectual) chemistry in their dialogue scenes.😍❤ Quite a (lesser known) cinematic gem of the mid 70's (heck, I was only a baby during the film's release😁😗)!!
Thanks for this insight Cassandra, always great to hear how our viewers first encountered these gems.

Watched three night in a row, coming on the fourth. Makes me weep. There is a true essence in Julie Andrews and Omar Sharif beyond their profession as actors. True emotion.

I did the same, can’t stop watching it!! I love old movies ONLY and many were great, with REAL classy actors. But there’s something about this movie. Omar Sharif was a charismatic man, and his look….oh my! I can think of a hundred actors who had beautiful eyes. But none of them have this sparkling look. It’s so sober. Clean. No nudity, filth, violence….Just a beautiful romance with 2 great actors.

Absolutely, Quayle’s cockney (i think) accent really impressed me!
Great movie! Thanks for uploading - and NO COMMERCIALS!!! Omar and Julie here might be the most beautiful pair ever.....She was great whether she sang or not....
Omar shariff was a great actor. May his soul rest in peace.
A time when the actor knew his/her craft drawing on technique and substance, rather than special effects to draw in the audience. The narrative played a crucial role in the characters relationship to one another, thereby creating a catharsis of emotions to deliver strong performances.
What an absolutely brilliant film. The cinematography, the music, the scenery and the Stars, WOW! I actually think Dame Julie Andrews is one of the most attractive, talented and eloquent actress' ever. THe cast were superb but the whole movie hung on every move of her soft and inviting lips. Well done for sharing, thank you.
I admire her too very much . . . but 'eloquent'? She's an actress; she's reading lines, so how can she be praised for being eloquent? Do you mean elegant? She is certainly incredibly elegant. Unless you are referring to her demeanor off camera - but in interviews she always seemed so down to earth and girl-next-door, almost self effacing. Eloquent would be maybe Katherine Hepburn, who was very self-deprecating in the most pointed, socially conscientious way and immensely educated therefore articulate, but never full of airs, very frank, intimidatingly so, and utterly facile in her self expression -- or Jane Fonda, who was extremely influential and clear in her activism. Or Meryl Streep. But Julie Andrews? Like Judy Garland, she just seemed so down to earth and sweet, and rather disarming in her simplicity -- almost studiously plain speaking. Eloquent? Hardly. It would spoil her style.
Helen Lauer .

This is the romantic version of Bond! It's always nice when two lovers have a secret or code that only two of them understand..😒
The romantic version of Bond is 'The Spy Who Loved Me', ignore the film as it bears no relationship to the novel. This film is more like LeCarre's Smiley stories. Particularly 'The Spy Who Came in From The Cold'.

One of the best 007 films that never was ... on its original release I was too young, ignorant and naive to appreciate it ... how times have changed ... plot, script and casting couldn’t have been improved and the movie was enhanced by John Barry’s emotive score ... it certainly surpasses most recent productions that rely on action paced, shock tactics and cgi.

Julie deserved more roles like this where she could show more seious sides of a character.
She was also in the very serious Hitchcock movie, The Torn Curtain, with the delicious Paul Newman. She certainly worked with the best of the leading men throughout her career, even when she was playing a man in Victor/Victoria with James Garner.
