  • I have a lot more respect for your content after you took the retrospective stance of being too clickbaity. Now, you make engaging content which lives up and often exceeds expectations set by the title and thumbnail. There's always a cool ending piece to the videos and, at least for me, the trust has been re-earned for me to always click and watch through your videos.

I don't regret the journey because I kinda found who I am and appreciate "me" in a much more realistic and honestly more experienced and mature way than I believe would have been possible any other way. That being said: I will be so happy to leave the weight of the angry monkey that is heroin behind me. Furthermore, I DO NOT recommend ANYONE else attempting this as a method of self discovery. It is so easy to lose yourself in the deadly and distractive world, and once lost ... Well, lost is lost. I am very happy for you that you were able to pull yourself from under the dragon's grip! • Jazza I’m a high schooler, and I used crayons. And they are misunderstood medium, I’m gonna list a few things that’ll make coloring with crayons better. 1) DON’T USE TEXTURED PAPER I noticed that the paper you used was textured, for crayons you need smooth paper with little to no texture 2) YOU CAN BLEND THEM much like color pencils, they take layers and you need to start off lightly so then you can build up the color and blend 3) Follow up to 1) the wax does stick and doesn’t change shape, but again you used textured paper thus making the wax uneven and unable to stick I’m not being a jerk just simply pointing out major errors you did. Overall love you content!

  • Jazza: I hate crayons Me, whose main medium is crayons: 😅 My crayon tips: - Use marker first! (I use alcohol based so I don’t kill my paper, but I’m sure water based works fine too). This allows you a base of color to build on - Blend them! I personally have been using a white crayon to achieve this, but I’ve also heard good things about alcohol based blenders - If you hate the texture (I personally love it), just scrape it off (you can use your nails, a coin, or a scraping tool). You can also combine textures by only scraping parts you want to emphasize - Don’t be afraid to sharpen your crayons (they fit in the big side of a pencil sharpener, or you can by a specially made crayon sharpener - it’s literally just a pencil sharpener but they replace the blade with plastic so it’s not as harsh, and it maintains the flat base and point shape of the crayon)

Then, when it's heated up, warm your paper and draw away. So you don't need a hotplate, though you can only draw on as much area as the electric iron, and just move your paper round as you draw. Have fun!!! (I bet someone gets this wrong and puts their crayon directly on the iron and makes a mess. Derrrr...)

Heated knives should keep the wax mobile on the canvas and allow you to blend colour. You can then proceed with oil painting techniques. Definitely a "Bob Ross but with melted wax" video possibility!

    • I'm not sure if that would work.... It is a sticky stuff, and it hardens quickly. Maybe some hard bristle brushes could live up to the job, but most certainly you will have to throw away them after. And you would need a brush per colour as you can't wash the wax out. Not even with turps as the crumbles of dry wax aren't easy to remove from anything they stick to... Or if you managed, the previous point still stands, you most likely can throw out the brush as it would be damaged beyond help after the procedure.

    • The Crayola Experience lets you do something akin, but the problem is, the wax cools too fast. You practically have to have the hot stuff sitting ready to go intentionally to paper. Unless you're into chaotic abstract looking things. I've been more successful with crayons using watercolor paper and using a scratch method and using 93% isopropyl to sort of smooth out the colors. Similar to a method used with colored pencils. Not perfect, but nicer.

If you ever want to try drawing with crayons again, I used to draw with them on a pretty toothy brown Kraft paper (like the kind that comes in rolls for wrapping packages). The brown paper serves as a great mid-tone and takes advantage of the opacity of the waxy medium. Great for layering crosshatched built up color fields, but I'm not sure that's a style you'd favor. Another big plus for the Kraft rolls, you can make really big drawings for cheap.

She taped off the spaces that needed to remain white then used a hair dryer to drip crayons on the canvas. She'd even mix colors by holding 2-3 crayons melting them at the same time, then pushing them around with the hair dryer on the canvas until she got the right color. Did you know that God is our Judge and even though He doesn't want anyone to go to hell alot will go there because they will try to earn there way into heaven God is our Judge and Jesus is our savior from the sins we committed. Since God's our Judge everyone will be in front of God on Judgement day some will be with Jesus and go into heaven and others God will send into Hell. This is why alot will go into He'll because they trust in there heart that there a Good person and they think that if they change there bad ways than they won't Go to Hell but since God's a Good Judge he cannot let sin be unpunished. that's like you on earth killing someone and then telling the judge you won't do it again! So don't put me in prison! That won't work. The only thing that will save you is if someone paid your fines and the judge can Justly and rightly let you out because someone paid for your fines. Jesus paid for our sins on the cross and he took the punishment of our sins on himself because He loves us he chose to die for you in hopes that you will turn to him because he knows that nothing will save you from Hell except Him except His work on the Cross. If you want to be saved tell God that you make Jesus your lord and your savior and agree and rest in that Jesus died for you and on the third day God raised Jesus from the dead Agree and rest in Jesus . "9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed."

  • There is yet another way of using melted crayons to get yet a different effect. Use them to color a regular picture, like the one you drew at the begining, but AFTER that, cover the picture with paper and IRON it with a regular clothes iron. This will melt the crayon into the paper giving you a completely different effect.

  • I'd love to see you try encaustic art. Wax art, or melting art. In high school we used a griddle or hot plate. Had little metal tins and clear paraffin wax. We would either use Profesional wax color or you guessed it crayons. It seemed wood was a great canvas for this medium. It helped absorb, and keep it in place. Crayons also give a nice gloss finish when dry.

    • Yes! This was like the kid version of encaustic painting. It would be fun to see a more professional take on the theme. Plus it would give you plenty of opportunity to show off those Bob Ross-ish pallet knife skills.

  • Hi Jazza! Did you ever try Encaustic? It´s not my favorite art, but we once did it in school. You melt crayons on a (sort of) flat iron and paint with the iron on paper. There are also very small irons to paint with, and even do scratching on the coloured Surface😊

  • The best way to get wrappers off any crayons is to soak them in some semi-hot water. Not lukewarm but warm enough to melt the glue-holding wrapper together but not hot enough to start melting the crayon. As an art teacher, I do this with smaller broken pieces and melt them into silicone molds to create new (differently shaped) crayons.

  • What would happen to the first sketch you made with crayons (the one with you holding a crayon), if you heated it up after? Would it melt into the recess of the page? Would it blend? Also love the way the heat gun pushes with hot air, but if you left it under a low heat lamp for an hour, would that melt and blend the sketch, while maintaining the original design? (would also look good on a time lapse) Dude, this one raised more questions than it answered! Need a follow up!

  • Lightbox. Replace the internal light with a heat lamp. Paper on top, heat from the lamp will melt the crayons as you draw, and as it will stay liquid/soft because warm, you are able to blend, scrape to get fast broad coverage, and use various tools (I use sculpting tools) to scratch textures into the crayon, which you can overlay with different colours to get outlines and shaded textural lines.
