Because only "wormy men" last in these positions... I hate to say it but people who work in and around national security matters lies, obfuscate, use underhanded tactics etc. all the time because that is part of their job(not only in the US pretty much every country do it). Things such as honesty have very little space within these circles. If it wasn't for domestic pressure they would probably not even bother with any of this... There's no real "limit" to the atrocities they could consider acceptable, if it's deemed necessary to maintain national security. BTW it doesn't make these things acceptable, but that's just how things tend to be. A person with a conscience will either quit or be removed eventually.

As a retired veteran of 22 years of service to the United States of America 🇺🇸 its really sad to see how the country has total disregard for the people of Palestine 🇵🇸.
