  • Fun game. I've got a lot of pleasure from your channel. I have a few questions. What is blitz chess? Playing in Toronto in the 70s, we called five-minute games speed chess, 15-minute games rapid transit, and blitz was two-minutes. CFC tournaments we're played at 40 in two hours or 50 in two. I get the impression that a much quicker time control in national and international has become popular, which saddens me a bit. Is it to make chess more of a spectator sport? Were players getting bored of longer games and longer tournaments? Was it a reaction by tournament organizers to shore up declining enrollment? You know Fischer's old quote, 'Blitz chess kills your ideas.'

It is particularly delectable on account of the following four reasons: (i) Kasparov with Black pieces is victorious, (ii) two world-class players are pitted against each other - clash of the generations, (iii) the opening is a sharp Sicilian & (iv) the playing format is blitz.
