  • I'm glad that even some rich people are reselling and reusing things, not dumping perfectly good clothes into garbage is a step in a right direction. Who knows, maybe one day they'll cut down on throwing perfectly good food into garbage, wasting electricity, destroying iphones in blenders just to make videos about it, spending 6 figure sums of money on virtual expenses in a single mobile game etc. Probably not gonna happen, but a man can dream.

    • Candle Light high end stuff always hits the consignment markets. Even if it’s your dead grandma ‘s old gucci belt, some picker snapped it up to up-sell when the family donated it. Even Goodwill has sold on eBay and now have their own site. This sounds good, like she is a hero or something. Even if she dumped it at the Salvation Army, it’s not going on a container ship to east Africa. So she’s still a mindless consumer (with not a strong style) patting herself on the back. Frankly she could edit more and have stronger point of view than “fun” (code for she’s got nothing here) The story misses the boat on how pervasive it is now for even college girls to have landmark bags like LV rather than affordable ones. I mean 40 years ago white collar working women wore JC Penny accessories, they didn’t go into a month’s wage for a lambskin Dior. So RR’s win is this mainstreaming of luxe goods in middle class aspirational households. People are still buying fast garbage fashion as a balancing of their budget, but they will happily pair Target clothing with a Gucci mule. WSJ...can you not did deeper? I subbed bc I thought you’d do more than congratulate a glorified thrift store.

  • I work as a fashion promoter for many luxury brands, I have to go to the main warehouse to check the quality of the items sometimes, trust me the real price of them are like 3-4 times cheaper. So when they sell off like 50%, they still get a lot of profit from these items. The real value is not for the items, it is for the company, for the luxurious boutiques in special positions in the malls, for the handsome bonuses to the staff LOL and for the experience. Wealthy people are dumb!

  • I use to work at the realreal and it felt like prison. The only thing management cared about was only the quota and it randomly got raised all the time. I use to see copywriters getting fired left and right due to not hitting their quota or having to many correction. It is true that no one outside of the authentication department was trained to authenticate. Working in the facility in Secaucus, NJ I felt like a bird trapped between concrete walls with no windows. Everyone working like slaves just to hit the quota meanwhile management would just get together, gossip and treat you like a number. I've seen people have mental breakdown and it got so bad that everyday I woke up I would punch the wall of my room because I did not want to go there, I had rather kill myself than be there. They treat the employees like robots and they lie to their customers.

The Real Real purposefully took pictures in angles that hid the damage to the straps of the backpack. Now I have to pay more money for Louis Vuitton to replace the straps. Had I known this item was faulty I would not have purchased it. Selling bags as "final sale" while hiding their true condition and expecting the consumer to be okay with their sneaky sales tactics is abhorrent.

  • The RealReal DOES NOT sell close to retail. Nobody buys used clothing at full price. You buy used clothing because you want a deal. At least 50% off retail. The average price for resale is 25% of the. Original retail. EBay used to own this business 100%. Now there are many sites. It is a buyers market when it used to be a sellers market.

The blame game 101. The rich do this, the rich do that. The rich should pay for this, the rich should pay for that. It's hilarious honestly.
