I’m 51 years old and don’t need a playlist as I grew up living this shit, every weekend spent hanging around in the record shop on a Saturday morning buying all the new stuff..I remember there was about 5 or 6 of us out of a whole town of 30.000 people who was listening to it at the time, it made us feel special to be part of something that was so underground...I have mixed feelings on how the scene as grown, but to be part of it in the 80s and 90s was a special thang ☮️🙏🏼

Great selection, thank you! The 80’s and 90’s massive push for creative mixing went back to artists like Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones in the late 70’s. Dubbing jazz horns, vocals and drum beats to create new music was affordable because people wanted their music to span all genres. Now its survival of the fittest and that type of collaboration is seen as weak or impossible because of the paperwork. Beats don't flow as music like they used to. It's a systematic bass sound now (2023). At least some good music always gets out.
I feel like a lot of people feel like music took a step back but you gotta look in the right spots look at stuff like Pro Era or griselda they brought back that old school sound but did it in a way where the younger generation would still like it I think you just gotta look for it there’s tons of great music today
This just took me back to 90s Bronx, me and my friends rolling blunts and hotboxing the car while parked. You can practically smell the piff smoke coming off these tracks.
Many artists I hadn’t listened to till the infinity of 90s right here right now in my 40’s a kid who grew up with 12” subs, a skateboard, a basketball, some weed and some friends who loved real hip hop just like this. I’d go back in time for sure.
