Houston's Most Dangerous Fishing Secret!
#fish #fishing
Six years ago, I threw a line into a random bayou running through the heart of Houston and ended up discovering the city's best kept fishing secret: these inner-city bayous are absolutely loaded with all kinds of fish!
Seriously, the vast majority of the city's four million inhabitants have no idea that underneath all the concrete, steel, and glass are fish.

Love the videos bro thanks!!!! You're the man keep it up 💪🏻🤘🏻💪🏻🤘🏻
Wouldn’t eat the fish u catch there?
@Broken.Native not a chance
I HOPE YOU ARE OKAY BRO 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Jello, half & half, bread crumbs, corn, mixing bucket, you sure this isn't a Cooking Channel challenge, lol.
I should give it a try in a video, lol
Love seeing some carp content again!!
It felt good to catch some again
Funny part i was walking on the sidewalk and i saw you i was shy to say hi but i was just shy😂😂
Always welcome to say hi
*NEVER seen anyone release a Bluecat! Good eating...also use an old couch cushion as an anti gravity seat, it's a roofers trick that works on these steep concrete death traps.*
You’d eat out of a city runoff canal
The smell of the water in Brays Bayou is not pleasant, and most of the fishes in Brays Bayou also have the same smell.
@@SirKankusdo people eat the fish from there?
@@Broken.Native probably but you definitely should not I’ve seen homeless people fileting carp right next to piles of trash on a river that smelled like actual wastewater
This water is definitely not clean. I should try the couch cushion trick.
What a great video showing the variety of species you can catch in these city bayous! I'm glad you explained and showed how dangerous this bayou really is. Great video as always and looking forward to what you pull out of there as the weather warms up even more. Also, I did respond to your email in case you didn't receive the notification.
I'll look and see if I missed it.
I just started watching your new video and noticed that your rig is the rig that I use to fish for carp at my local pond here in Las Vegas, NV… Awesome…
I appreciate the support! Yeah, it's a good set up.
You make urban freshwater fishing look fun and I'm from Houston 🤘😅🎣
I do my best 🤙
Caught my PB carp on your recipe. Only thing I changed was that I used tuna because the store I went to didn’t have sardines. 47 pound monster. Thanks!
Love your videos
Much appreciated 🙏
I can extremely relate to this video because I’ve also fallen into the body before and my leg got cut up from the concrete as I was slipping down into the water and it took me a while to get out but a week later I had a major skin infection that ruined my whole summer😢 So I found a new strategy for getting my fish out from the water without falling in with them and it’s shoving a steak into the ground and attaching a rope to it and letting it dangle all the way to the waters edge, and whenever I need to land of fish, I just walk down there and hold the rope in one hand and have the fishing rod and another and so far it worked out great!!!👍
Sounds interesting. I honestly just should have remained disciplined and walked it to one of my three designated landing zones.
Hey good to be back to watch your shows again, I really missed watching my most favorite fishing channel on here, wanna apologize for missing your shows but I have them all saved on a playlist I made so I can catch up, my family and I ran into to a string of unfortunate events back to back and I got messed up from pneumonia and a terrible infection again in my lung for the fourth time which is hard on me via me having a really bad dust lungs, love your shows and can't wait to catch up🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
No worries and best wishes on a speedy recovery
@@wildlifefishingshow thank you very much, it means a lot to see a KZheadr that does so much to bring us this amazing content and takes the time to reach out to they're subscribers, and that's what separates your channel and makes it "better than all the others"
Glad you didn't slip into that water. It's dangerous. Luckily you only broke the handle on the reel, and not the actual reel. Looking forward to the next video.
Ha, yeah, it was a lesser of two evils for sure
Just a weird guy from Dallas here. Good video as usual man! Tight lines
Probably better weird than what has become the stereotype conventional norm..
@tadhghayden7601 no idea what you're getting at
Much appreciated
@@wildlifefishingshow I believe I commented on another video that you were strange but make good videos. You were polite about it. No big deal man just saying another good video.
@@Thomas-tc3ox the "much appreciated" reply was for you, the "no idea" reply was for the other guy I appreciate you tuning in
Second the roofer safety gear suggestion 👍🏻
I'll look into it
Great day at the bayou ! Close one! Damn near ended up in the drink, again ! I remember when that fish pulled you in, scary !!!
Yeah, I was having flashbacks
I seen a video of you getting shot at ain't no body stopping this dude from fishing 🎣 lol
Nobody 🤙
Good stuff
Thanks
I just started getting into using pack bait with method feeders and it works well. Caught my best channel catfish using it and I have experimented with it alot, even buying small halibut pellets in my recipe which has generated good results. Also great videos you make.
Halibut pellets are a great addition
It's right around the spawn in Texas, depending on where you are, for channel cats. They'll be full of eggs and hungry if female. Fun to watch someone else fish the flood control in the Houston area. Any fish in the lakes in the area will be in the creeks, bayous, and flood control.
I might have a go at some larger ones in the creeks soon
I subscribed because of the safety tips, well done. Sorry about the reel ❤
I appreciate it 🙏
I know that carp are an environmental disaster for you in the States but those are some stunningly beautiful fish. I don't envy you the problem but I do envy you the fishing.
Well, only certain species in certain areas of the U.S. Common carp have not been a problem in Texas. On the other hand, big head carp in northern states are a huge problem.
@@wildlifefishingshow Pleased it's not affecting your local waters mate, really hope it stays that way, you have some amazing fish and fishing.
I use strawberry jello, grits, vanilla flavoring syrup, bread crumbs and a can of corn… very similar to my mixture… Awesome vid brother…👍👍👍
Sounds like a winner
Random question. I have been out to the river and have had a tough time getting the bait positioned without the current moving it away. We were also using heavy weights. Don’t know if it has to do with the wind or not, or if it’s just usual. How do I find spots without heavy currents?
You want to look for formations on the bank that create eddies
Every time you post I get fish fever and start loading up my gear
Relatable
Get you a set of felt sole wading shoes/boots. They will grip that concrete like glue. We use them wade fishing mountain creeks. You can even add cleats if you want.
Every now and then, someone will suggest this, and I look it up, then forget to buy them, lol
What do you do about ticks and chiggers in that long grass
I was wondering too.
snakes also and hobos
I haven't had an issue with ticks, I catch snakes when I see them, and the unhoused individuals in this area aren't looking for trouble
I caught a 500 pound bass today ❤I would post it but I’m too busy! Keep it up bill
Decent fish
I live just a few blocks from Brays bayou at Chimney Rock Rd. One of these days I'll fish it.
Huge fish in here, just be cautious on the slopes.
Hati-hati bos mancingnya 😊keren sekali spotnya dan ikannya besar-besar juga sangat menyenangkan mancingnya 😊👍👍👍
Thanks!
They don’t drown there. They are dumped bud
Some do drown there. I have a nephew who is homeless in Houston, and he talks about drug addicts like himself drowning in the bayous. I am very surprised he didn't drown there. We are just waiting for the phone call from HPD to identify his corpse.
People absolutely drown here and are witnessed drowning here. Google is free, bud.
Do you eat fish? Also do you think there good to eat from the canals or is there to much pollution? TIA. thanks for sharing. Great video
Waaaay too much pollution. Definitely would not recommend.
A true fisherman. Love your show. If you ever have the desire to do Alaskan fishing let me know id love to take you Halibut fishing and silver slamming on the way in. Im guessing that water is drainage from sewer? I know nasty ?
This is actually a natural bayou that predates the city itself and only has concrete on the last few miles. There are a few water treatment plants that drain into it, though. Halibut sounds like a blast
When are you doing more creek fishing videos?
Not sure, I'd have to find something really big hiding there or a really weird creek. I need something to sell the video. Maybe I'll find a large gar in a creek soon.
Hell yea when I was a kid me and my friends use to play down there. And if you end up in there your finished that current sucks you down.
It absolutely does, so much more dangerous than people think
Wat reel and rod that's u got the frist 2 fish on
It's a Fox International carp stalking rod. I'm not sure what the reel is, but I got it from Bigcarptackle.com
You should bring a tent peg or something to drive in between plates.
I typically do a lot of walking when I fish this area, so I wouldn't want to be limited to a certain spot
you should make videos fishing with them gar rope lures
I might give that a try
@@wildlifefishingshow just made my own and surprisingly works
Ever been to the H‑E‑B (next to 288) upstream of this section of Brays Bayou?
All the time
What are those mahi shades I like them
I think I just grabbed them in Academy Sports and Outdoors
What size hook was that on the first rig?
Not sure, probably a size 2?
would jetty shoes help with the slipping?
I don't think the cleats would help. Honestly, just gotta stay off the wet areas and algae.
My sister has seen bald eagles in one of the neighborhoods nearby. I assume they're feeding in Braes Bayou and it looks like there's enough fish.
Pretty cool, I'll keep my eyes out for them
What tape to you used to put on your rods?
I don't think I put tape on my rods?
masking tape on gx2?
@@azgamer7681 I didn't know there was tape on it. It's probably just regular old masking tape.
I'm tryna to buy some carp . because I can't seem to find any in local water in the Beaumont,Texas area
Like for an aquarium?
What bait runner reel is that?
Not sure, got it a long time ago from Bigcarptackle.com
What part of Houston? if you don't mind my asking
This is just a mile downstream from the Hospital district
@@wildlifefishingshow Ok I'm pretty new to Houston and all its surrounding areas, and have yet to cast line anywhere. I feel so ashamed lol. Have you fished in the Arcola or Pearland areas
That foamy film on the edge of the water looks like raw sewage does in water.
It's really nasty
When are you going to do a Catch Clean Cook video ? LOL
Not really my style
What that city called?
..... Houston
would you eat the fish u catch there?
Not in a million years
man!!! that would make good hog bait!!!! lol!!!
Oh, I bet it would. Maybe put some cheap beer in it, let it ferment
🐟🐟🐟🐟🔥🔥🔥
🤙
Where is that located
Houston
@@wildlifefishingshow where n Houston
It's ok you'll float lol
That was probably the last thought of a lot of people who drowned
What part of Houston,TX
Close to downtown
How to make ground bait more solid and sticky while using lard, half and half, etc
Use more lard, less half and half
Такой рыбалке - завидую молча.
It's a lot of fun
🎉
🤙
your pac bait, can be used like dough bait on a hook.
Yeah, this current tears it apart pretty fast though
Great place to go find bodies.
I did a video where I put a camera under a float here and I was on pins and needles the whole time for that exact reason
@wildlifefishingshow ya there is no telling what you could find. Houston has turned into the wild west these days. Buddy said they were fishing the sea wall in Galveston not to long ago and so.eone tried to rob them at knife point. He let them know that a 45 slug to the chest was gonna be there fait if they drop the knife . Guy dropped the knife and hauled ass.
i would had deep fry that carp with some seasoning and lemon grass. then make a tomato base sause with some pepper for that carp. or turnt he catfish into nuggets
That water is polluted af
What's the story with the mask?
Keeps the sun and nasty water off my face
When he falls and breaks the real when he originally falls his hand is nowhere near the handle and somehow it cuts to the handle being in his hand kinda looked staged to me
Literally none of what you're saying happens
Is the fly rod fingernail a clickbait ?
No, I actually fished with it and caught fish with it, just didn't make the final cut. This video hasn't even been up the time length of whole video.
Thats why God invented Korkers.
I wonder if god holds the patent on that... I might steal it, nobody's gonna know
Don't make fishing tackle like they used to ..breaks or wears put far to easy. What happened to life time guarantee. That's an interesting place to fish...Chinese and japonese art is redolent with carpy imagery.. such a classic fish...
Oriental art depicting carp is absolutely gorgeous. I have a Japanese painting of carp in my living room.

Flyrod click bait
I used it and caught fish with it, just edited it out in the end because it didn't flow. You can see the fly rod in my hand with everything else.
