Mark Williams is a Choctaw film director in Shawnee, Oklahoma, who learned something not long ago about Choctaw history that surprised him. Turns out, the last forced removal of Native Americans to Oklahoma wasn't in the 1830s and 1840s, but in 1903, when many Mississippi Choctaw were relocated to Ardmore in Chickasaw lands, and abandoned. He tracks down ancestors and uses art to tell the story in his 35-minute documentary "Ikhaiyana La Chi" (I Will Remember, in Choctaw), which was debuted at the Dead Center Film Festival in Oklahoma City recently. Gallery America's Robert Reid asks about him for this digital OETA feature.
