  • In the 1960's, when I was 6 yo, my folks took me and my siblings to visit family in the South. When we stopped at a gas station to use the restrooms, there were three; Men, Women and Colored. 60 years later racism continues to run amok in our country. Racism has to end sometime and it might as well be now. I was a racist myself until someone I loved challenged my beliefs. Don't be silent about racism. If someone you care about makes a racist statement or joke, do not be silent about it. Challenge them on it. People can change and must, and I sincerely apologize for my earlier beliefs. Stay firm people.

I'd like to share a little-known fact: Mississippi, where I currently live, did not vote to ratify the Thirteenth Amendment (banning slavery) until 1995- 130 years after first voting to reject it. They didn't even bother to file the paperwork until 2013. It took two Med School professors, one of whom is an immigrant from India, to force the state to do the right thing. You can't make this stuff up.

Oh what's this, make over a million bucks a year and you pay 1% LESS then me. Looks like a tax cut for the rich and hike for the poor to me. Trump LOWERED the threshold for snap program. He didnt fix the issue he just stopped fixing the problem of starving children and then bragged about it. GDP growth; bud you gotta learn how this works in general. Trumps economy peaked the first 6 months he was in office. And growth halted. It levelled off. It WAS Obama's economy the entire time; until something happened. What was that? Well. He ignored every sign that he needed to raise taxes and minimum wage. And then ignored a virus. And then said a virus would go away magically. And just like that every business owner and investor decided that America isnt worth investing in. Look at literally any other economy if you dont believe me. They got hit by covid. ONLY America's got tanked.

    • @@cyanp0wder U.S. posted The Biggest Monthly Budget Deficit In American History in 2019 February’s 2019 federal budget deficit was the largest ever on record, according to figures released by the Treasury Department . President Donald Trump promised during his campaign that he would balance the budget. The total debt surpassed $22 trillion for the first time ever in February 2019 - $2 trillion higher than when Trump took office. The massive shortfall is being attributed to a 20 percent drop in corporate revenue and increased federal spending. The Trump administration slashed corporate taxes in his new 2017 tax law from 35 percent to 21 percent. Trump’s tax-cut package cost the taxpayer $1.5 trillion.

    • Well, I'm white and have always felt my life has little meaning. I'm not trying to dismiss the Black people's struggle, but many people suffer in America. Being white isn't necessarily such a privilege. We can still be passed over for promotions, flunk out of school and go hungry.

      @christinebenson518@christinebenson5183 жыл бұрын
    • @@christinebenson518 the point isn't that nothing bad ever happens to white people, the point is that white people don't have to worry about many things Black people do. My parents never had to tell me to be careful in public - I was taught to be polite, but I was never warned that failing to be polite could lead to my death. Black kids do get that talk. I've seen a lot of Black Americans these days talking about how they were taught never to leave a store without buying something, to avoid even the appearance of shoplifting. I've never thought of that, because as a white woman, I'm less likely to have the cops called on me if someone thinks I'm shoplifting. If a Black man gets the cops called on him, even if there's no evidence he did something, well... You saw what happened to George Floyd. It's an imperfect analogy, but white privilege is like being right handed. No one is going around giving people raises solely for being right handed, but life is much easier for right handed people. We do a lot of things without thinking about it - when I start to use a computer, I just expect that the mouse will be on the right. When I shake someone's hand, I assume my dominant hand will be fine for it. Left handed people do have to be aware of these things. Now imagine that instead of being inconvenient, being left handed in a right hand world could result in your death.

I'm sorry for the despair black people must go through. Or having to revert to hating white people in turn as a coping response. It's all ugly and unnecessary. All these wounded people everywhere.

    • Its not just civil rights. Its opening the window to how absolutely broken and rigged our country (and many others) are. People losing their health care because they lost their jobs during this, showing we need more reliable hc than getting one tied to our jobs. Even jobs themselves are shown to be not as functional as we thought. Many places are seeing their business can run just as well, if not better, from employees own homes. Essential workers are getting the short end of the stick, and getting sick, transfering the buisness, because we cant afford to not work. Doctors are getting furloughed or just laid off, because their field is not important ebough and they need the resources and experience in more dire dept (icu, repository, general) Parents are struggling because they cant afford health care for their kids from either, lost of their job, or they are an essential worker and relied on school days so the parent can work, and their kid can be taken care of. Poor people and minorites are getting the worst of it, while the uber rich get tested with results less than a day, and can afford to see a great doctor, and get treated quickly. This. Country. Is. So. Broken. Im sorry for the uber lengthy response

    • First, he is joking. Second, many moves the CCP did really is over reacting because in China our cases have never been as low as New Zealand and 100 cases in a super over populated city isn't that a big deal. Third, please understand, as somebody who saw both CCP's crazy propagandas and shows from other countries, I realized that Chinese speaking people usually have a horribly misled impression of CCP's reputation, we always thought that this authoritarian regime that historically did so many evil things but never face domestic consequences once somehow deserve a positive reputation. To be real, most governments are evil in some level, an authoritarian regime with absolute power is no where near innocent and must be criticized constantly.

    • @@masakazuishiguro8525 Outside of Wuhan and the Hubei province, China somehow managed to keep control over the epidemic. In Beijing, the official number of daily new cases was fairly low, a new cluster of a hundred or so cases is still a serious threat : though it must be noted that mass testing was not ready at this time, when the first confinement was declared they had around three hundred detected cases, they have ended with 50,340 cases and 3,869 death in Wuhan alone, and the city hospitals got overwhelmed by a substantial margin despite the immediate construction of fortune hospitals. In the beginning of an epidemic, the total population is quite irrelevant to the dynamic, the number of starting points is what matters most, the probability of transmission is pretty much independent of the total population, though factors like population density do matter. It is a bit like a wildfire : the surface covered by the forest dictates how big the fire can become, but not how fast it will. Once it grows too big, contact tracing will become inefficient and they will have to declare a new confinement on the city, I am not surprised they take this new cluster very seriously.

Can you imagine living in an age where kings brutalize alien civilizations in the name of god and being an advocate for human rights for all people? Bartolome got many indians and black people baptized which, at the time, under the law of the european governments, it was forbidden to enslave a baptized child. • Because it was not originally a true "national" thing. It was a Texas thing. Now that we're all movin' on up and learning, it will become a national holiday. Remember how it USED to be a point of pride for black Americans to basically shame whites who wanted to understand by saying, "It's a black thing; you wouldn't understand?" Well, maybe now you can see that we cant understand unless you explain it. Frustration over a person not knowing a thing they SHOULD know about already (like not discriminating or not using racial slurs) is fine and normal. But blaming or shaming them for things you readily admit "they wouldn't understand" is wrong and does NOT help fix the problem. Whites should feel free to ask why a thing is insulting or wrong without and blacks should be willing to explain it without the "racist" criticism behind it. Don't forget, whites were raised and conditioned by white society, too. They have to "unlearn" old habits they thought were normal and relearn a whole different way of thinking. Once they understand some of it, they will begin to see the flaws in other things on their own.

    • @Temaghn O Murchada Here are some more double standards Few would claim that there is any anti Black racism in Jamaica. Jamaica has a 99% black population and is viewed as a black paradise. Jamaica's homicide rate for 2018 was 47 per 100 000 . The USA homicide rate for 2018 was 5 per 100 000 The number of people shot and killed by police in Jamaica in 2018 was 140 in a country with a population of 2.6 million or 0.54 per 100 000. The number of people of all races shot and killed by the USA police was 991 in a country with a population of 327 million or 0.003 per 100 000. Is this what the world is protesting about? Where is the free media on this? Are the cops really the problem? Where is the black lives matter on this? Oh they rather quiet there
