Digging for a Secret Tunnel: What We Found

2023 ж. 9 Сәу.

For the past six years, we have been told by many people that there is a long lost tunnel behind the Chateau. Big enough for two adults to stand up in side by side, and that there is a long buried staircase and entrance to access it. We don't know what its purpose was and why it was hidden, but today we set out to try and discover its location.

  • The Phil Harding impersonation of digging a hole in a well is spot on. Thanks Michael. Cheers

  • That cannot be the entrance, since two men cannot stand side by side. Good job getting the digger and going from the other side instead. Love your humor, Michael. Billy's yard is going to be a mess, but I bet he is chomping at the bit to find it as much as you are. So glad you are back, Michael. 🧡

  • Tunneling adventures continue ! Interesting for the content to add to the Chateau's history. Some Chateaus had underground tunnels to move people safely to and from or supplies to and from. Important to survival and could mean Marie Antoinette, King Louis, etc types may have lived longer due to these. Wine cellers often extended from the main building to protect from the weather outside. COOL!

    • And why exactly was it a positive for the Marie Antoinette, King Louie etc types to live longer? Those Elites treated the common people like absolute crap.

  • To make the digging easier, you might want to use a shop-vacuum with a dirt-trap. You would basically be vacuuming the loose soil away and the dirt-trap can be up on the ground and easy to empty out the spoils. I dug out an old well at my grand-parents house like this. It worked like a charm and saved my back. Keep doing what you do. I love watching your content. It reminds me of the times as a little boy. Can't wait to see what you do for hydropower with the lake.

  • There are 3 ways this can go: • It used to be a long secret tunnel; • It used to be a poop hole for an outhouse (looking forward to this reveal) • Part of water management or something and nothing intetesting.

    @artfx9@artfx9 Жыл бұрын
  • That looks like a puisard, I have one in my back garden in Normandie, it's like a sink hole for draining off excess water, they're pretty common when you live in the country side and you're not hooked up to a sewage system. So mine captures water from the gutters, the grease tank (bac à graisse) and the septic tank drain off, yours looks redundant as it's been cut off by the wall. The square opening in the round lid is also a givaway, it's called a "regard" literally a" look",so you can keep an eye on the water levels in there. Usualy apuisard is not a well, in a puisard the used waters will drain away into the soil to be filtered, whereas a well taps into fresh water from the water table.

Jesus Christ Died for the sin of the World, If you believe in ur heart God risen Jesus from the dead and confess him with ur mouth to people you shall be saved. Jesus said I Am The only way to heaven there is no other way! Repent of urs sins (Repent means Change ur Mind turning away from sinful things and being truly sorry for it.) trust Jesus and give ur life to him He Loves you cares about you more than anyone ever will! we are saved By Grace Trough Faith!,this is sin: Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the gift of eternal life in our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 3:23 For all have sined and felt short of the Glory of God. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Romans 1:18‭-‬21‭, ‬23 KJV Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9‭-‬10 REPENT OR YOU WILL PERISH REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL GET RIGHT WITH GOD LORD JESUS CHRIST.

  • Field archaeologist here. Love the Time Team bit! You make a decent Phil! First impression: a well goes straight down, no channels lead off. A tunnel meant for human activity requires stairs. In this tunnel, stairs would be directly under the brick vault so it wouldn't collapse on people where the soil depth was shallow. Tunnels could then carry on either just through dirt or with a brick or stone ceiling and walls. To further extend this theory, I suggest digging down below the vaulted ceiling at least 2 meters to looks for stairs. Third option: Cistern. These are generally going to have an access point big enough for a person. However, the walls and ceiling would be brick or stone lined and plastered. Make sure the stone walls and ceiling do not carry on, and this option can be ruled out. To be honest, I hadn't considered your theory of a drainage tunnel - but that is absolutely possible. They would also probably have needed it wide enough for a man to enter to clean it out. Again, I would look for stairs. Very excited to see what happens in the next episode!
