Lyrics:
This is our decision, to live fast and die young
We've got the vision, now let's have some fun
Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?
Forget about our mothers and our friends
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend
To pretend

    • Seriously and it’s so sad having a mixed bag of a childhood. It really makes you wanna hold onto what you did have as a kid. And if this song is nostalgic for anyone then I would say forgetting then coming back to this song can teach you a lot of things especially the song “kids” it’s like a close friend telling you it’s ok to grow up don’t indulge in being a kid or you’ll loose who your meant to be.

  • My sister had a boyfriend who died when he was only 17. He loved this song, and he really did struggle with heroin. I only knew him for a short time, but he was the biggest impact on my life. He lived fast and young. He was so wise and chill. Almost like nothing bothered him but I know that everything did. I was only 13. I saw him dead… my sister was trying to revive him and his body regurgitated… that almost last line “we’ll choke on our vomit and that will be the end.”… that shit gets me. I’m 26 now, I miss you and I wish I could have seen you now older than me, and even wiser…

  • I will never forget how it felt the first time I heard this song (myspace days, feels like eons ago). This song truly did hit like no other. The strange misty primordial sound at the beginning. The imposing opening notes and chords that soar as the song progresses. The dark heavy, yet easily accessible lyrics. The wonderfully catchy drum beat that makes this easy to dance to. The beautiful reverb and surrounding cacophony. Such a large sound. All emotions all at once, as others have said.

    • growing up is weird for sure but definitely worth it. It's like a blooming flower under the sun compared to a seed in a dark bag. This song is a hymn of lost seeds. Have faith in yourself and push forward through anxiety, boredom, frustration, loneliness, depression and the rest. There's a good life hidden behind all of that, your good life. Ask for help, share your troubles. Family, friends, mentors, books, therapist, church - use everything you can to get through bullshit as fast as possible so you could spend the rest of your precious time in joy and love. It's worth it 100%. I'm sure, you'll figure it out if you choose to do so 😉 As the good song goes: "Take nothing less Than the supreme best. Do not obey to what people say, Cause you can pass the test. Just move on up..."

    @squiddy69420cool@squiddy69420cool3 ай бұрын
    • Listen, there are two types of people. One type pays extra money to assert their alleged class/status even if they aren't getting anything for the extra price. These people often overpay, which makes them foolish. They also end up rewarding what are fundamentally scammers in the market. Their obsession with class tacitly says that wealth makes one person better than another. Overall, it's not a good look. Then, there are people that figure out what something should cost based on the thing they are buying (stuff like what you get for the added cost) and based on how much they value certain things in that product. So in the first category, you have people buying US$7,000 jackets when there's not much different between that and, say, a US500 jacket. The second category still might buy a high-end product if the price actually lends itself to a better product. For example, if someone plays video games, a US$3,000 PC will give a completely different experience compared to a US$1,400 PC. All it takes is a person like this to value fidelity in video games, and they make the purchase. There are people poor to rich and all amounts in between in both categories. I always respect someone who has large wealth but still buys based on logically figuring out what is worth how much, not getting scammed. When it comes to alcohol, I naturally had to test the idea that more expensive stuff tastes better than less expensive stuff. After testing out various cheap and expensive alcohols, I figured out all alcohol tastes like ass. Once I figured that out (losing a little money for the expensive testing), I have always bought the cheapest stuff possible. There is no transition point from buying for "taste" to buying for cheapness. Basically, people who buy for "flavor" are just trying to assert their class whereas everyone else understands pretty much all alcohol tastes the same, bad. There might be some exceptions here like beers actually have a variety of flavors that people learn to love. However, in my experience, all beers taste like shit. All whiskeys taste like shit. All tequilas taste like shit. All vodkas taste like shit. It all tastes like shit. Long story short: Buy what is most cost effective in the category of alcohol you find most appetizing (although you should still think it tastes like shit. Just a more acceptable form of shit than the other shit). Anyone buying more expensive stuff is either in their testing phase like I did to figure this out, or they are incredibly shallow people who want to appear as higher class compared to others, trying to imply they are superior to others. Well, they're just fools. I know extremely rich people that buy from the well just the same as extremely poor people.

November 2017 is when my dad moved out and we don't see each other that much now, May 2020 is when my sister moved out December 2020 is when we had our dog put down because of the tumours and the amount of pain she was in August 2021 is when I'll be moving out of my mom's place, out of my room that I've had for the last 19 years. My sister, my father, my dog and my home, the only remaining one of these will be gone in less than a month. Sometimes it hurts to grow up..

  • To me this song is about how you're fated to pretend to enjoy your lifestyle regardless of the path you take in life. In the song, there's a fantasy of rejecting a traditional path in life that is "boring", and deciding to live like a rock-star: partying, doing drugs, dating models, etc. However, you'll still miss your family, your time alone, having meaningful relationships, etc. You're fated to pretend to enjoy it to be happy, even if you may wish something else.

    • That’s an awesome view. I always thought that you’re fated to pretend to be civilized. For a lack of better words. You pretend to be professional and go through life using technology while ignoring primal instincts to enjoy things like sex, drugs and nature. I can’t really put it into words but it reminds me that humans are animals. That our primal instincts and animosity are just apart of us and that participating in society is mostly pretending to be civilized. Again, for lack of better words

The older i got the more o understood its definition and get this ,.. the feeling gets even MORE intense with age and with more reasons to trigger it too. Im 44 and i now feel nostalgia as often as i do the rest of the typical moods amd feelings we get . And it kind of satisfyingly sucks if tbat makes sense . I love memories but i hate the longing and realization of how ungrateful i can be with little things and moments we all take for granted .

I spose if you have kids maybe you do it through them? But nah, that would suck coz they grow up and leave and then you’re just old. Yeah nah ya gotta stay young and in touch with the things that make you feel really alive. x

Get jobs in offices And wake up for the morning commute? Forget about our mothers and our friends We're fated to pretend, to pretend We're fated to pretend, to pretend I'll miss the playgrounds And the animals and digging up worms I'll miss the comfort of my mother And the weight of the world I'll miss my sister, miss my father Miss my dog and my home Yeah, I'll miss the boredom And the freedom and the time spent alone But there's really nothing, nothing we can do Love must be forgotten Life can always start up anew The models will have children We'll get divorce We'll find some more models Everything must run its course We'll choke on our vomit And that will be the end We were fated to pretend, to pretend We're fated to pretend, to pretend

On the surface, it looks you’re happy and living a life with no obstacles but deep down inside you know you are and aren’t happy. That’s why the instrumental sounds happy and upbeat but if you read the lyrics and listen to the singing you can sense the sadness. The way he sings it is in a sarcastic tone.
