    • @@CarsonRH Don't know how the ER is where I work because I work in Radiology and we certainly do charge for the exams before they even leave. We send the images out to be read so the pt is charged a separate bill from the radiologist. Charging for the exam is part of the paperwork I do for every patient that gets a x-ray or CT. I imagine ER is the same way.

Since I'm trained in the kitchen I knew to keep it under cool water for at least 20min, went to the doctors the next day since the area was smaller than a hand. Professors insisted on keeping me there holding back screams and cries of pain saying to me it wasn’t too bad and said I should just clean up with some napkins i peace’s out to the bathroom to run it under some cool water and that’s when I realized how f-ed I was. Went to the nurse she saw how f-ed I was and was sent to the er in the campus police car with two of my roommates. 2nd degree burns and an oh so tempting blister on my wrist. My stepdad carried me inside and all they did was put ointment on it and it was bleeding like crazy, blisters everywhere and I swore my skin melted. I had minor 3rd degree burns right in the center as I didn’t feel that at all and it burned my nerves. We didn’t get medical help, just ointment and they laid me to rest, no bandages or anything. That was a fun day.

  • I've actually dumped 4 liters of boiling water of my feet while camping in the woods. I immediately dropped everything and started emptying water containers on my foot but the nearest running water point was half a kilometer away. As I was wearing snikers, the boiling water was still retained by the shoe and when i took it of, the blister ... exploded (it was half a centimer wide and 5 centimeters long). So here I am in the middle of the forest with an open wound and unable to put my shoes back on. I live in France so the ER is basically free but I couldn't go because I was scouting with kids and I was the only one officially qualified. So I spent four days in the woods with this exploded blisters (covered with some sterile protection). The emergency room was super busy and he have to wait patiently while enduring the pain. He said nothing while waiting but I can feel his pain, from the way his eye looks watery if you care to look long enough, how low his head hung while occasionally look around with a desperate look on his face, and how tight his lips pursed together, probably trying his best not to let out a single cry.

  • I had a second degree sunburn as a kid, I was at a watermark and my mom was too high on meth to think about sunscreen, so I played about 10 hours under the scorching sun and collapsed near the lazy river (ironic). I was in between conscious when I realized I was being taken to the ER. All the salt water/pee water I accidentally ingested made me wildly dehydrated on top of my skin on my face and shoulders being nothing more than a giant blister, sapping away a lot of my fluids. I was hooked up to an IV and slept for a long time, I think I was there for a few days and my mom found herself battling CPS, again.

But in the moment instinct took over and catching myself was the only thing I thought of. Anyways, I put my hand under the sink. My mother is a nurse and said it wasn’t bad enough to go to the ER. • Had second degree burns on the left side of my face from a brush fire flaring up into my face. Kept rotating cool water logged rags onto it til the heat went away. Didn't go get it checked at a clinic for 4 days and when I did the nurse and doctor chewed my ass for not coming in sooner. I had OTC burn cream from a family member so it was already healing and kept pretty clean. Completely healed within a week of the incident and when I'd gone back to the clinic for a follow up they were very surprised at the speed of my healing, no scarring either.

It was only a small spot on my index finger and I pulled it away immeditaley. I thought "It's gonna be fine", didn't run cool water on it and just ignored the pain because I was sure that it was going to stop soon. It didn't. It got really bad and extremly painful in almost no time

  • I was getting out the toast from the oven's broiler when the back of my hand touched the screaming hot, still red coil. It immediately 'fried' my skin. I quickly turned on the cool water and put my hand under it for about 10 minutes. It really helped. But, I did get a huge water blister. I guess that was a 2nd degree burn. I didn't pop it because I knew from reading that that water blister is sterile and is keeping that wound sealed and away from germs so it won't get infected. The water blister will pop on its when the skin has healed. Unfortunately, mine popped too soon. The warm water I ran for the dishes made it pop. So, I got some Neosporin, rubbed in on the wound, covered and taped it with gauze. It healed in no time. No scar, no infection.
