Virginia Creek drains the popular Virginia Lakes region. After crossing Virginia Creek Road it flows thru a canyon alongside Hwy 395 and then enters the Bridgeport Reservoir which is part of the East Walker River watershed. The lower portion is stocked but other areas are difficult to access and hold wild trout.

    • In the next year you'll see a lot of streams from California including Yosemite national park, Colorado and Utah plus an occasional stream from Michigan, Minnesota and elsewhere.

  • Coppersmith, I would highly recommend getting a net with rubber mesh instead of the cloth mesh. You would be amazed at how the cloth mesh rubs the protective slime coating off of a trout. I didnt think it was a big deal either until I seen an experiment done that displayed the difference. A fish that was caught by cloth mesh shows extreme skin damage two weeks after it was caught. In comparison, a fish caught with rubber mesh shows no effect.

    • The thickness of the mesh may make a difference. I use thicker mesh nets. The experiment is interesting because I catch a lot of fish that were surely caught before with mesh nets and I don't notice any skin damage, nor have most other people noticed such things. Most importantly, I do not believe the trout actually die from this. I have noticed a lot of trout with mangled mouths. I have noticed a lot of trout from fish hatcheries raised in rough concrete holding tanks that had their pectoral fins rubbed down to little stubs. Skin issues don't generally kill trout unless you have really bad water chemistry such as can be found in some fish hatcheries having high levels of ammonia and nitrates.
