after bobby orr left, don cherry took teams loaded with retreads, unwanted waiver wire bums, and middling talent to near the top of the nhl every year. they were only bettered by the dryden, lafleur, and robinson canadiens, widely considered the best nhl team of all time. paul maurice may have been around a long time and coached a lot of wins, but some of the dirtiest and most bush league clubs are his. he is an embarrassment to hockey,

A list like this that does not include Jared Bednar is not a list to be taken seriously. That his players still listen to him and thoroughly embrace and run with the system he advocates speaks volumes about what a successful NHL coach should look like. I'm not too sure if anyone would have these 2 guys in the top 15 because they didn't win a cup, but Pat Quinn and Pat Burns were brilliant coaches and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Maple Leaf fan. Quinn did a very good job at Vancouver and Burns at Montreal. The Leafs were very unlucky to not make it to the final in 1993 against the Kings. Thank-you Kerry Fraser for your contribution to that.

Looks like it's a French name issue. I guess that's forgivable. La - v - o - la, La - v - o - let. Not sure what you did to Habs great, Jef - re - on would be the English pronunciation. Good list. The one guy mentioned Bednar. Perhaps eventually, but hasn't had a long enough track record. Brilliant hire and patience by Sakic.
