Just as a mother buffalo helps protects her calf from a leopard, they run right into a hungry male lion!
BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKruger
This incredible turn of events was captured by Matthew Steyn while on his trip to the Kruger National Park with his family.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
Matthew tells us the story: “We were on our way back to Pretoriuskop using the Voortrekker road when we spotted this amazing scene!”
“We stopped in the riverbed to watch a herd of buffalo. Amongst the herd, we noticed a brand newborn calf that was just starting to learn how to walk for the first time. But, shortly after this, my son spotted a leopard in the reeds, rights amongst all the buffaloes!”
“After some time, the rest of the herd seemed to move off slowly, leaving the mother and calf behind - alone. The mother and calf were completely unaware of the leopard. But now, not only the leopard, a lion decided to show up to the party!”
In the video, you can see the moment the mother could smell something was up. She started sniffing around to eventually find the leopard in the reeds. She chased the leopard away, unknowingly, right into the lion!
The lion tried to get to the calf, but the mother was too protective. “Unfortunately, we lost sight of the lion following the calf into the bush, but am pretty sure that newborn wouldn’t have lasted long on the run like that and not being able to suckle. Weirdly the rest of the herd never came to their rescue and were in fact headed in the opposite direction.”

One of my favorites is more than a dozen huge cowardly buffalo running away from wild dogs leaving two calves behind to be eaten alive. Another is a buffalo coming to the "rescue" of a calf grabbed by the throat by a lion only to ram the calf and running off for the lions to grab it again.

Once babies are killed she comes into esters to have sex with the same Lion who had killed her babies. They enjoy sex running into days. Shud we call her a stupid carnivore mother. No she is not behaving stupidly it's u human who is. By categorising mother into stupid herbivore vs brave carnivore mother. If still in doubt Rhinos r herbivores please go near it's babies and get first hand experience on how consistently they drill hole in ur ass if u go near their baby.A mother is a mother and there is a motherly instinct which gets triggered when her baby is in danger. How she reacts is not based or linked to her eating preferences that wud be really really stupid.

First , it seems she could smell the presence of the leopard, but could not see it at first. Agitated from the imminent presence of the danger, she was ready to defend her calf... As yu yu can see:- She will bulldoze anything that threatens her calf, be it a leopard or a fierce fearsome killer Male lion. She does not stop to think twice nor take a risk of waiting, She just charged and chased away the threat. The same applies to human mums... They will do anything to protect their babies.
