Buffalo Calf Escapes Leopard Only To Run Into a Lion
Just as a mother buffalo helps protects her calf from a leopard, they run right into a hungry male lion!
BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKruger
This incredible turn of events was captured by Matthew Steyn while on his trip to the Kruger National Park with his family.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
Matthew tells us the story: “We were on our way back to Pretoriuskop using the Voortrekker road when we spotted this amazing scene!”
“We stopped in the riverbed to watch a herd of buffalo. Amongst the herd, we noticed a brand newborn calf that was just starting to learn how to walk for the first time. But, shortly after this, my son spotted a leopard in the reeds, rights amongst all the buffaloes!”
“After some time, the rest of the herd seemed to move off slowly, leaving the mother and calf behind - alone. The mother and calf were completely unaware of the leopard. But now, not only the leopard, a lion decided to show up to the party!”
In the video, you can see the moment the mother could smell something was up. She started sniffing around to eventually find the leopard in the reeds. She chased the leopard away, unknowingly, right into the lion!
The lion tried to get to the calf, but the mother was too protective. “Unfortunately, we lost sight of the lion following the calf into the bush, but am pretty sure that newborn wouldn’t have lasted long on the run like that and not being able to suckle. Weirdly the rest of the herd never came to their rescue and were in fact headed in the opposite direction.”

This title is so damn misleading. The title should be "Mama Buffalo chases off leopard and lion".
True...
Yeah they title it almost like the last viral video just for views
I would not click if it said that 😐
@@williamkirklin6120 In other words, you like falling for clickbait.
@@Wyldout hell yeah
The title made me assume that the calf was going to be killed.
nope, neither the leopard or that young male lion wanted anything to do with that water buffalo mama. buffalo 2 : kitties 0.
@@thomasneal9291 It's highly likely that the lion took down the calf in the bush there, just out of shot. Btw , they are not 'water buffaloes'.
@@mikeoglen6848 It’s not considering the male Lion was on his own. Simply no match for an adult Cape Buffalo. If he’s preoccupied with a calf, it means he’s not paying attention to the mother. And she is more than capable of going in hard on him. Flung 15ft through the air, hard.
That mother buffalo would've battered that lion!!! Lions are Kings of cowards, a bull elephant is the real king of Africa and Asia, barring humans with lethal weapons.....
@@isaiahjohnston823 lions r kings of cowards hahaaa im surprised u even kno how to spell 'lion'
Buffalos deserve more respect they are fearless
And strong
you mean against a cat much stronger than them?
@@dubialexander9802 What do you mean much stronger??? There are videos, where a single buffalo owned a pride of lions. Buffalo can just tear poor lion apart without even effort.
@@irreligiousman3395 i meant vice versa actually.
These two cousins planned everything together😂😂

She needs to find her herd quickly if she hopes to save her calf.
Bruh, it’s already been eaten.
They all dead by now
They are dead already
Love Buffalo's hate Lions, they are overrated, elephant is the king of the beast on land, followed by the rhino, except humans, who use guns and other weapons to kill these magnificent animals....
@@isaiahjohnston823 Yeah lions are very overrated. Tigers are more superior and would taken down both the calf and the mother buffalo. Tigers take down gaur so cape buffalo should be easy.
Being a calf is a curse suffered twofold in an African wilderness.
The mother has to protect her calf from lions, leopards, hyaenas and wild dogs.
@Ice Berg Yeah, every thirsty animal is in danger when they take a drink of water in the river,
@Ice Berg basically everything even humans hunt and eat them
@@daviroza4700 you mean the wolves from wall street?
Now that's a MOM! Shouldn't this be called "leopard and lion escape buffalo"?
So true eyes wide open. Lol.
Motherly instincts reign supreme in the animal kingdom.
Such a young buffalo calf and his Mama was doing an amazing job keeping him safe. The big male lion did not give up either. Hope the little one is still alive and well. As always Kruger, many thanks.
I hope it killed the little one. Lions need to eat.
she left the herd, not very good job
Hopefully it got caught by the lion or another predator. You people with your Disney view of nature.
@@SaadKhan-xn1xv No Disney view here, just realism. That small calf would only be a snack for the male lion. He needs to join up with the rest of his pride and make it worth his while. Realism!!!
That male could have taken the mother if it had a good opening
Kudos to his brave mom
Buffalo see leopard, chases it away. Buffalo sees lion, chases it away. Buffalo sees videographer -- eehhh, those are just monkey is a tin can

Wtf
Damn, that male lion was no match for that mother buffalo without a pride of lionesses to help him.
Mother buffalo protects her baby...Its good video.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
At 2:18 the lion is like "you humans seeing this shit? Really??"
Leopards are the master of stealth. Incredible animals!
Both cats were allied 😂 the lion paid the leopard to distract the mother 😂😂
😁😁
Did the lion pay u too😀😀😀?
Lions don't 'ally' with any other species, they'll kill leopards on sight if they can catch them, too!
The 🦁lion paid the leopard 🐆with with a 🦵leg and a really juicy 😋rump roast!! 😆🤣
@@NannupTiger can't get irony... My God

Lions got to eat. 😆
Lions are important to the herds of many animals, the herbivorous herds will eat themselves to death, without population control... nature doesn't get it wrong
@@sdrfz Let ‘em learn to eat grass.

Amazing scene with all 3 species together at the same time!
@Rabbit Rat three lol. Lion, leopard, Buffalo

@Rabbit Rat Sorry. My eyes are getting old :).
A mother’s love is the best love she carried you in her stomach and she will die fighting for you poor buffalo nature is brutal but it’s just the cycle of life it self
You need to watch more buffalo videos to see just how inconsistent and stupid these herbivores are at defending their children. One of my favorites is more than a dozen huge cowardly buffalo running away from wild dogs leaving two calves behind to be eaten alive. Another is a buffalo coming to the "rescue" of a calf grabbed by the throat by a lion only to ram the calf and running off for the lions to grab it again.
@@SaadKhan-xn1xv But they are still protecting their herds and babies, meanwhile other herbivores don't even care about their families like wildebeests, zebras and impalas.
@@irreligiousman3395 wildebeest and zebras also sometimes attempt to protect their kids. Wildebeest also do it stupidly and harm the calf. There's a great video of one involving a leopard.
@@SaadKhan-xn1xvLol! You must have also seen so many videos of Lioness a carnivorous mother. Lions takeover her pride kill her babies(instinctively though she tries to hide them initially). Once babies are killed she comes into esters to have sex with the same Lion who had killed her babies. They enjoy sex running into days. Shud we call her a stupid carnivore mother. No she is not behaving stupidly it's u human who is. By categorising mother into stupid herbivore vs brave carnivore mother. If still in doubt Rhinos r herbivores please go near it's babies and get first hand experience on how consistently they drill hole in ur ass if u go near their baby.A mother is a mother and there is a motherly instinct which gets triggered when her baby is in danger. How she reacts is not based or linked to her eating preferences that wud be really really stupid.

Lions are running away from adult buffaloes like cowards.
Very misleading title. They should have said "mother buffalo fights two big cats for her calf"
That Lion is a wanderer, just recently thrown out from his pride.
Are you trying to say he's a disgrace, for running from a female Cape buffalo?
Did you see him get thrown out of his pride? Are you his father or mother?
Dishonor upon him Dishonor upon that cow!
Lmao even pride males spend 80% of their time away from the pride
@Amy H -I never said there's anything odd about it, my reply has to do with the guy sounding like he's calling it a disgrace to a pride..
Smart job by buffalo
Sherryl Weber.....I’m aware of “Darwin’s survival of the fittest” thesis and the perils of Mother Nature and the “Law of the jungle” but it gets me every time when I see a video of a baby animal in danger of being taken away for dinner..........I’m always going to root for the mama and her baby!
Well, every time a baby animal escapes, a predator fails to find a much-needed meal and might gets closer to starvation.
True, but that's how the laws of nature work, while humans can actually choose and not be like that, if we would be more humble, truthful, with less malicious attempts, it would be a whole world of difference for the better..
This is like swerving out of the way from the cars in front of you crashing...only to run into the wall, lol.
It is the responsibility 0f wild life to protect the small calf.
Plot twist, the Leopard and the Lion were working together
It’s like the kid who wants to ask his mom questions while she’s at the register in a store and the kid just doesn’t get that they need to fucking leave lmao
Fantastic Video
An incredible movie! Thank you so much for sharing. Jarmila
oh thanks god they are live
One healthy lion vs One healthy cape buffalo. Now that is fair game. That is a game I want to see. It is so obvious who would win and it is not the lion.
Lions can bring down healthy prey, just like other predators can, but the slightly weaker, less smarter prey usually are the ones to get taken down....
Lion has killed Spanish bull in dog fight it can but wild lion don't take risk for injury because they have many enimes to deal.
Great thanks
God bless you!

Very good ☺️🤠🤠
Is it normal that this buffalo and its calf are alone? Buffaloes are usually in herds!
I'll take that, thank you very much
Awesome footage! Thanks for sharing this one. Yu can clearly see the shear determination of the Mother Buffalo. First , it seems she could smell the presence of the leopard, but could not see it at first. Agitated from the imminent presence of the danger, she was ready to defend her calf... As yu yu can see:- She will bulldoze anything that threatens her calf, be it a leopard or a fierce fearsome killer Male lion. She does not stop to think twice nor take a risk of waiting, She just charged and chased away the threat. The same applies to human mums... They will do anything to protect their babies.

That leopard gave them the heads up.
its nature .....lion is not at fault ..its way of life
Where is the buffalo herd?
That's how it works basically confidence, if you charge a lion the lion could even get scared of you, the lion thinks if you're this confident you already encountered lions and killed them, don't try and charge a lion though
Works on a lot of predators, there not using to stuff running towards them
T-pose so you look bigger
