  • Here is a summary of the key points: - MCT oil stands for medium-chain triglyceride oil. It contains fatty acids from coconut and palm kernel oils that have medium chain lengths of 6-12 carbon atoms. - The best MCT for ketogenic effects is caprylic acid (C8), followed by capric acid (C10). Caprylic acid has the strongest ketogenic effect. Coconut oil contains mostly lauric acid (C12) which does not have ketogenic effects. - When consumed, MCTs are absorbed directly into the liver and converted into ketone bodies. This is different than other fats which enter the lymphatic system first. - Ketones produced from MCTs signal mitochondria to produce more of themselves (mitogenesis) and uncouple, wasting energy as heat. This protects and repairs mitochondria. - MCTs can induce ketosis even when carbohydrates are consumed, making them useful for various diets or conditions requiring ketones like epilepsy. - Start with 1 teaspoon of MCT oil and increase slowly, as women can be more sensitive to side effects like nausea. Powders may be better tolerated. - MCT oil benefits brain health and can be useful for those with the APOE4 Alzheimer's gene. It is preferred over coconut oil for these individuals. - When possible, mix MCT oil with healthy fats like olive oil for additional benefits from polyphenols. Start slowly to avoid intolerance.

They were high consumers of coconut oil and other coconut products. And they were among the hardest (physical) workers you will ever know. In recent years I have been consuming coconut oil regularly. So far, despite a couple lousy doctors I am up to 82+ with older sisters and brother. Coconut is good stuff.

  • Growing up in the 60's & 70's, there was no discussions on nutrition, so all we did was have normal breakfast, lunch & dinner, and that's how we lived.... My grandmother (on my side) lived to 95, and on my grandfather (on my wife's side) lived to 101... and neither of them spoke of longevity tricks other than telling us to NOT smoke or do drugs and to NOT drink too much alcohol, but that's about it... Well, I took their advice as I grew up to adulthood, so I NEVER took drugs or smoked, and I rarely drink alcohol at maybe 1 drink a month or less because I just don't like the dizzy feeling even after 1 drink, so I avoid alcohol.... So during the 80's & 90's, I just never entertained all this nutrition science stuff and just lived life normally, but I was aware of eating healthy & exercising, so I did, but sure, I ate unhealthy things too... I guess it just wasn't a factor so long as I looked & felt good.... Well, here we are in 2024 and I'm turning 60 years old in August, and I will say that I'm FINALLY taking in all this advice.

Answered my questions to what MCT oils levels do their job with mitochondria uncupling AND is it ok to take olive oil with them too. Dr Gundry's answer is yes it's ok to have a tablespoon of coldpressed organic olive oil with a tablespoon or two of MCT Oils C8, C10 ONLY. The other MCT Oils DO NOT actively work together mitochondria uncupling KNOR DO NOT build Ketones. He explains how and why. A good handy followup to ASEA Redox Molecules REDOX 5 previous post today.

  • I've been buying/using your product MCT Wellness and there is no indication on the label or website which form of MCT is in it! Is it C8, C10 or C12? I called your customer service to inquire (which I shouldn't have to according to the information you provide in this video) and they were unable to answer the question. I don't appreciate this double standard Dr G!

  • MCT oils are also said to be antibacterial? And because they don't need a carrier to get through the cell wall, they can pass through mucus. Won't this harm gut bacteria? And thus violate their homeostasis.

  • Coconut oil vs MCT on ketone bodies? is it more effective, seen mixed results. Maybe some respond better to the fractionated oil than the standard oil.

    • I’m able to get my blood ketone levels up with regular coconut oil and find I can eat a lot more of if than I can of MCT oil. I think it’s a little contradictory to push a whole-foods diet but recommend a refined oil like MCT.

  • Hi Dr Gundry, my brother is 57 and found out he has a blood disease that causes over production of red blood cells. Thickening of the blood. What do you recommend food wise or supplements that can help reverse or stabilize his disease. Thank you, I’m trying to help him. I have him drinking dandelion tea and I’ve read milk thistle is good too.

  • I use MCT oil almost on a daily basis now, I get great energy at the gym and I feel great as well! The MCTs are quite interesting in that they not only facilitate the production of ketones but also help with lactic acid/recovery from a vigorous workout.
