  • SpoooOOOooky Halloween - got any plans for it? This was mine. Yep, here is part 4 in all it's glory. Wanted to try slipping in some motion graphics, happy with some, not so much with others. Let me know what you all think. I think it adds some much needed movement and fluidity without the breaks of the title cards, but some of you may still prefer the title cards. Really I'm just curious as to what you all have in mind. Tried really messing with the Graphic Curve for Audacity here, looked up a lot of tutorials for that. Think it's alright, but with my janky set-up that's up for interpretation. Well, I've sent out interview requests for my next video. I think it's going to be a really, really, big video. The more I dig into it. Lastly, did I get you? Also, side note...anyone need a video editor? ;-;

  • Yay! New update! The Veiled Woman overall is basically a Lovecraftian Entity who are not suppose to be understood by normal human being (at least to me). Delving too deep into her would be a futile effort. Still this video offers fascinating and refreshing perspective on her. Great work!

    • I’m right there with you tbh. Though digging into her was fun. I never got why people found the ending “depressing” per sey. For me it was always very hopeful once you detach the continent from the bid to save the world.

  • While I can see the Argument for the ruined and the Balanced, I always liked the theory that the veiled woman is just the embodiment of Chance (opposed to the embodiment of Fate you meet in Nehrim). While she is "shackled" by fate to kick off the creation of emissaries and help the cycle along, ultimately she can "roll the dice" so to speak, especially after being empowered (?) by people like Tara (and the actions of the player in Nehrim might also play a role here...) In any case, thank you so much for having made these videos, they are a joy to watch!

  • So in regards to the Esme quest line. (potential trigger warning, read at your own risk) She is a character I can actually sympathize a lot with. In my early teens my mom who was president of a massive IT company and in the past and at one point was also one of the people in charge of a 2 billion dollar IT company, then she lost her job just after we had moved cities. Because of being further away, her being over qualified for most work, and her pride being unable to just erase her resume she was unable to get a job which led to her being depressed, which then caused her traumas to surface. She always suffered with some PTSD, and anxiety, but there was more then what we knew berried under that bridge she thought she left behind. As time went on, we found out that she was suffering from; PTSD, anxiety, depression, and BPD. This on top of the feeling of loneliness while me and my brother would be at work or school, and she was stuck at home by herself which only dug her rabbit hole further and further. She eventually started to have more suicidal thoughts, overdosed on meds to many times to count, and her mental illness became so bad at some points she started suffering from psychoses episodes on occasion, seeing things chasing her, and that were trying to attack her or us, which you could associate the black fog to a psychoses episode. When you are dealing with someone you love that has these issues, its not hard to get upset with them, and you do judge them from time to time, the part that was a bit crazy is many of the things and judgments that Esme said about Tara are things me and my brother have said and thought about my mom to the "T", and later just like Esme we understood it on a deeper level. The process Esme went through, from the words she used and the feelings she felt are identical to how we felt. And I actually showed my mom the way Esme described how Tara explained the black fog, and my mom vouched for it word for word, and even without knowing began to talk about certain feeling that were mentioned in the quest line, that I never showed her. They really did a phenomenal job capturing depression/ suicide in this quest line on both sides (The person suffering from it, and the people they affect), and my guess is the person who wrote that quest line went through a similar experience as myself. For those wondering why I shared my story it is simply so people could understand better where I am coming from, it also helps that this is a small channel on YT and no one here knows me :P Also yes my Mom is still alive, and is doing much better then she was at those times. And just like Calia, it is something she know she will always battle with for the rest of her life, and she as well as myself know that she will too have moments of weakness. For those potentially reading this and are suffering similar things, know this. It can and does get better. It is hard, and it may never go away completely, but it does get better. Even therapists had said to my mom that they dont understand how she is still alive with all that she has suffered. There are many people who have suffered greater then her, and she is aware of that. But She had many, many struggles, and has managed to get better. Just dont give up hope in yourself, and leave expectations behind. Anyways, if you read this all, thank you!

  • Do not underestimate your meaning and importance to others, so quickly i find we dismiss our place in roles and others lives, we're fast to label ourselves as nobodies, that if we were to die, no one beyond a select few might even notice. It's a fatalistic sort of humbleness, in a way perhaps it's our desperation to relieve expectations and responsibilities from our shoulders that we don't have to live up to someone's ideas about us, or perhaps it's a way to try to minimize a burden that is entirely self-conceived, there is something to be said for not being overbearing or expecting others to have you on their minds every second of every day, but humility can be as sharp as any razor when used flippantly when dismissing the cares of others and when you eventually leave this world, do not dismiss the hole you will no-doubt leave and the pain others will feel a pain is quite literally like no other, potentially life-destroying, only able to be experienced, once.

  • Best Halloween treat! Really enjoyed the editing, motion graphics, and creative in-game shots. My favorite was getting axed in the face by Daddy. Gratz on finishing undergrad. You mentioned being "late" on it. As a 28 year old only recently about to finish undergrad (in CS, woo!), I feel that on a deep level. Especially combined with the bit around the 26min mark about comparing oneself to the success of others, feeling behind, etc. I'm more at peace with it now. It helps to remember that everything is made up and the points don't matter. :D I hope you keep up with video editing. As far as games I'd be interested in getting your take on, do you think you'll ever give Nehrim a go? The only other game that's given me similar feelings as Enderal is The Forgotten City, though I'm not sure why. I think it's worth checking out if only for funsies. And, yeah, the ending got me.

    @clara5716@clara57162 жыл бұрын
    • Exactly, comparing your journey to others doesn't exactly make sense once you try to think about it deeper than a surface level. Everyone moves at different paces, though I'm not doing a great job at explaining myself. Nehrim, I've never played. Forgotten City is wonderful, the murder mystery dinner on a large scale type setting. A classic setting executed in an interesting way. I suppose the same feeling is the omnipresent 'evil' and the inevitable doom ending. I've heard Nehrim is not in English, but I've not looked into it too far. I would definitely consider giving it go, though.

  • Superb video. I greatly enjoyed the editing style of this video, with titles of music being displayed, transitions, and the opening graphic/animation. Also, the choice to use graphical enhancements was a good choice to improve visual interest. (Modlist/Enb?) I personally appreciate your continued vulnerability, though I think your level of self criticism is often unfounded. You completely deserve what you have, and I personally don't believe there is an expectation for content to be released on any kind of schedule when quality is the primary concern. I recognize that appreciating your own work is incredibly difficult, but as someone who has watched all of your work thoroughly, and has played the game significantly, you are doing exceptionally well. However, I view this as the overall story arc of the channel, character vs self, and I look forward to seeing your growth in this respect most of all. I look forward to your next project. Thank you again. And until next time, continue your story, and I will continue my own. - A Fan

    • Of course, I'll compile my graphics modification list, but this was made for filming and consistent constant framerate for better editor compatibility. If I was to compile a true Enderal graphical overhaul, I would use a few different mods, as well as a few more, as this as super cut back. And thank you, that means a lot. I'll be moving forward with my work as I try to find a better place in this wild world. Jobs and all that. Following through with a couple leads, hopefully a flow of income will mean I won't need to worry as much about survival and can produce steadier :') I hope to be moving forward with these next few videos, though with how 'large concept' they are I'll have to find intermediary projects as well.

Gods and stuff like that which are meant to be unknowable are super hit or miss for me. Give them a reason or motive and you made them knowable. The Veiled Woman still doesn’t and probably won’t ever truly interest me, but I love reading all the theories.

  • Hey there! I didn't know you before, but this video was featured on the official Enderal facebook page, so I finally found you. I am a die-hard fan of Enderal and I'm so happy to find someone who explores the lore and the characters' motivations in such depth. Also happy to see that I'm not the only one who thinks that the Beacon is not the key to the end of the Cycle. Though my very favorite part of this video was how you explained Esme's quest and Tara's story and very accurately presented the two sides of depression - the inner and outer perspective. I think this could be used as very valuable material for psychoanalysis, especially followed by the Veiled woman's lore and how she destroyed that beautiful city of plenty because it made people feel empty. To add a bit of my own to this, I remember an experiment made on rats where they were made to live in comfort and abundance of everything, never having to fight for anything, never having to struggle. After some time, these rats actually started creating social classes, fighting amongst themselves, also they stopped reproducing. This says a lot about how our minds work, and truly, we obviously need something to fight for, a desire that will keep us going. Your video is a very nice summary of what the game possibly stands for... and it also explains why I love it so much. :) On another note, I noticed your ending and immediately thought that you sound like a character taken right out of that game. Maybe that is just your internet presentation, but it sounds very sad, desperate, and also very self-conscious and self-degrading. So just to offer a bit of kind words, y'know - you are doing fine. It doesn't matter how often you publish videos, or how perfect they are. I don't really publish videos on youtube, but I write stories. I used to be very much like this - degrading myself for not publishing often enough, for the stories being less than perfect, for the characters acting illogically, for making other kinds of mistakes, all that stuff. Until after some years, I looked back and thought to myself "This is what I've published so far, and it's in fact not little. And when I compare it to other online authors, there are maybe less chapters, but there is far more content. And maybe these stories were pretty bad at the beginning, but now I see I have actually improved, and I can improve even further. And maybe some people had qualms with what I wrote, but others appreciated it and kept me going." I can actually say the same about you - I see people posting videos on youtube daily, but aside from the fact that I don't even have time to follow them when they publish so often, their videos are by far not as interesting as yours. Because yours have actual content, depth, meaning, and you don't sound self-righteous or conceited in them. To me, in fact, you do everything right. And it is far better to produce quality content once in a while than to give out empty words and shallow images that are just for show all the time. So do give yourself a bit of appreciation for what you do, and allow yourself to enjoy some quiet time without having to achieve stuff now and then. You are just fine. :)

    • Thank you for your kind words, I wrote this script shortly after coming out of a pretty bad place and my conclusions are often the most un-edited sections of my video. In terms of both audio (I don't cut out my breaths) video (I don't film specific shots to match lines) and script (I don't really cut anything.) I always get unnaturally nervous even when it is completely unfounded. And finishing up here was something of a major achievement for me. I lack a strong base of comparison against other creators and I look to Raycevick, Lemmino, and Ahoy as my main inspirations. And perhaps I feel inadequate when trying to live up to those examples. Even though it's illogical. I'm in a better place now and much more confident in my skills than the months ago when I wrote this. I'm eager to continue and jump into the work full-heatedly. So many topics on my mind I'll have to begin a spreadsheet soon.

It is almost hard to believe you are only 22, just based on how analytical you are, and your vocabulary. I seriously hope you don't give up on your dream to be an editor, your videos are extremely well done, and are comparable to some much larger, higher budget channels. Also I know most people hate the sound of their own voice, but as someone who is into voice acting, you actually have a good voice for narration like this, the calm, relaxed, and low voice makes a comfortable setting to just sit down, zone out and listen. Seriously keep up the good work, and best of luck to you in school, life and work!

    @superbelo@superbelo2 жыл бұрын
    • I've done a fair share of narration as well, though for journalism, which is a bit different. I really hate channels that find the need to scream constantly. Makes it hard to listen to. So I normally try to speak a bit lower, a bit softer, while at the same time stretching my vocal chords to fit some emotion into the words I speak. It really destroys me and I normally can't get through a sitting without dying halfway through, even if it's only like 20 pages or something. But thank you, I've really wanted to kinda get into audio mixing as I haven't done *too* much of it and these videos are always learning experiences. Like the custom EQ graph I worked on for this. Best of luck to you as well!

  • Replayed Enderal again recently and now going back to your videos. Some thoughts come to my mind about Enderal's story, specifically the endings. The entire game is a gigantic Pandora Box. Desperation, hopelessness and hysteria keep creeping into the emissaries' minds, yet "hope" remains for all of them. For Tealor lighting the beacon while dying believing he saved mankind alone, all by himself. For Yuslan it's the gratification of the avenging act. For Coarek it's the destruction of religious zealot headquarter. "This is a story of someone who wanted to be free." But free from what? Childhood trauma? Past regrets? Nehrim civil war? Self loathing and hatred? For the pc however, eventually in all three endings the pc does achieve freedom in some form. Catharsis - free from both body and soul, redeem what he/she had done to the point of no return. Brave New World - free from the disaster the high ones sowed. Dreamflower - free from the entire f*ckary that is the reality. "If it's a dream, I don't ever want to wake up." What is reality anyway? :)

    @echoness_@echoness_ Жыл бұрын
    • Ahhhh finally, I've been in many (admittedly short, I don't care too much to prove myself) arguments when I speak about Enderal's story being somewhat hopeful. I no longer consider the game to be that uber depressing narrative where everything ends horribly and is awful. For me, each ending was bittersweet and hopeful. The PC lost the battle, but not the war in each ending. Each one shines a bright new light towards the future. At least, what I've come to understand, is that is is incredibly subjective, and correlates more to how you see the world. If you believe in the New World ending that mankind is doomed to repeat everything, then perhaps that is what will happen. It's something I do love about Enderal. Admist many grating and grinding things, I do love the ending. One of the reasons why I hope spiritual prequels, but not spiritual sequels, will be made. It's too good of an ending. I'm glad you enjoyed all my work thus far, I'm hard at work at this next video but my laptops GPU fan just ate the bed so it's out of commission. Don't mind replacing the fan as much as I would replacing the GPU.

And this is the fate that awaits Jaspar/Calia if we choose fleeing ending. They are not Fleshless, so they will age and may die, so to escape eternal lonliness you have to use all avaliable alchemical methods to preserve their life. Even if it means to bound them to some sarcophagus.

    • @@Wereyoi Hey man you know how hard it was to finally find a polished and well written series on enderal? Niche is what I'm all about! Gotta ask you going to focus on video games or branch out to books or movies? Cos if you want something to dig your teeth into try the cosmere books. Even if you don't actually make vids on them.

      @cianos9011@cianos90112 жыл бұрын
    • Ahhh the cosmere. Actually listened to the entirety of the Stormlight Archive this past year. Defo had some ranging opinions on the series. Some were better than others, but altogether it was a pretty awesome read and that last epilogue of the last book was SO GOOD. I will absolutely look into them. I really am just going to make videos on topics I'm passionate about, and storytelling is that passion. Will have to dig in a lot more into the Cosmere as that thing is just....massive, but I do enjoy it.

Also your videos on enderal are by far the best and i really enjoyed watching them. I am looking forward to every new video from you. Thank you for these great contributions!

    • Oooh the Witcher... I love the books they are hella awesome. As for the games...well I launched 3, saw you could import a save, said "well now I have to start at the beginning." And proceeded to 100% 1&2 before getting JUST through the tutorial on 3 before just stopping. 1 was....I don't want to remember it, I think I repressed most of that game. 2 was a hard okay, but suffered from the weird sepia trend that was in games of that time. And 3...well, I've heard it's supposed to be one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time, but I've really only played the tutorial lmao.

    • Ohhh yea the Witcher books are soo good... This dark and grim world but also the fine Humor and Moral choices that always tend to be on a knifes edge. And of course the characters! Just gerat! (I dearly Miss Regis...) funny... I had exactly the same Problem with the Games... But in the end the choices didn't realy Matter... Only for the third there are some sidequests that depend on the decisions made in the second. But i am glad i played the 2nd it ads some background to the Story of the 3rd Game. The 1st oh yes it is... Interesting... A lot like a walking sim with crappy combat XD On the 2nd: i know what you mean but apart from the graphics and the wooden animations it isn't such a bad game especially the music is great. The Story was as i remember... okay... The witcher 3 is really worth it. Compared to the first two... No, you can't really compare it. In my opinion it is much much better in terms of... everything! Offen it felt to me as if I would play a story from Sapkowski. I highly recommend it! Also on the topic... did you see the netflix show?

A lot of things changed. I have lost much, but also gained and grew stronger in time. Loss, grief and renewal are nothing new to me. Your esseys are very insightful. It was a pleasure hearing your ideas and watching your edits. Incredible work. Visuals were amaizing. Can't wait for your new project. Gothic might be fun, but it's not as good as Enderal in the themes, plot and characters department. I know as I played a lot of it in the past. For cRPG's KotOR II SL and Tyranny might peak your interest. Take care friend. Stay healthy and thank you.

    • You know, at the rate I'm being recommended isometrics, I may just have to make a whole video dedicated to them, or review a bunch of some lesser known/smaller ones before tackling the larger games. Never played many isometrics...some..Spellforce 3, Divinity 2, X-COM (tho people would debate that that's isometric lol) I have begun to come to understand the type of content I want to produce and the way I'll talk about it. I mean, I didn't even know what a video essay properly was until a commenter on part 1 pointed out that I'm not quite a reviewer. All that is to say, I understand a bit more *what* I want to do. Thank you for your kind words, I'll add both games to my growing list of ideas!

    • Wereyoi's video process is heavily thought over and scripted, and the audio and editing quality takes alot of time. I'm not sure he would want to do something like that, and perhaps it wouldn't work for his approach to content. Not saying I wouldn't take more of him, but that's my assumption.

    • I’ve thought of doing a stream where I do just that. But I’ll leave that as a sub-goal or something. I’m not sure how you stumbled across the video, but I’ve never played any Enderal side quested besides the dlc lmao. Always get sucked in by the main quest. The stream would be me blind reacting to all the side quests and giving commentary on it.

    • @@Wereyoi I was the same with games like Bethesda, I never liked skyrim story and New vegas although a great rpg is too open ended for my taste, but Enderal proved all I need it was a damn good story with focus. Pillars is like that but for isometric while divinity is a lot like skyrim in terms of its more of gamey rpg than story based However Pillars story is mostly through text dialogue and reading lots of reading so if you enjoyd reading the butcher of ark you might like it. Xenogears is like a game like FF 7 or 6 but with a much more ambitious story and much darker tone, but rougher on the edges since it got the same problem New vegas and Kotor 2 got.

  • A lifetime in a moment, and then the moment ends. Consider the possibility that you died, as your father said you did, when you lit the house on fire, and in that moment you live a lifetime until the point you accept your fate. If all possibilities that can happen will happen, there should be possibilities in which the cycle would then not happen, yet the Veiled Woman states all realities are susceptible to the effect of the cycle. Furthermore, it is important to note, there is a stage in the cycle in which it can be arrested immediately, the Aged Man. You are the reason the cycle comes about to its conclusion, and if not for your efforts it could not happen, specifically, the Word of the Dead. The Aged Man must give you the Word of the Dead, without it, you could never finish the beacon, and this also means at the end of every cycle the Aged Man would have to retrieve the beacon from it's final resting place, to give it to the next Prophet. These specific events would have to take place in every eventuality, thus killing the concept that anything that can happen will happen. There is a concerted effort to try to portray a dream world and a real world, what is reality anyways, however in the real world people don't come back to life (this is subconscious screaming at you, trying to wake you up). Have you ever had a dream in which you try to wake from, only to find yourself in a dream, this is also explored during the Aged Man questline, what if when you woke, you were still in a dream, the same dream that lead you to his house in the first place. These are the last moments of your life, your home is engulfed in the fire you set and no one escaped, not even you. Just some things to think about.

  • I don't really think there's any compelling reason to believe Yuslan, all things considered. I think he sees the dreamflower as something that could derail his plans, though if that's the case he's mistaken there too - there are no better possibilities for the Prophet until the Beacon is used and the Cycle is finished with them. They're rooted to that path and the best they can hope for is to survive fighting against it. Besides, in a multiverse of infinite possibilities there's got to be a world where it *does* work exactly as advertised. And when you're a grandmaster Entropist, well, you can give things a little nudge.

    • Very true, very true. I'm always baffled when I see people look at an ending and say it MUST be a certain way, especially endings like Enderal's, where everything is so vague. At the end of your tale, you've taken action to such a high degree the endings are entirely your interpretations. Say if I detonate the beacon, and I believe that the result is the rest of the world is saved. Then that is true. Or if I believe the rest of the world is doomed, then that is true. Endings where no epilogue is given are for the player to decide. After all, we're the ones who took action to make change. I like Yuslan, find he is a really great character, just like Tealor, and I would think he harbors no ill will towards the Prophet, especially after we just helped him. Yuslan's beef seems to be solely with Tealor and most others he disregards. So I don't know exactly why Yuslan would lie to us, but perhaps I'm not remember certain details or whatevs. Thank you for joining me on this series Ar Cee, it was a pleasure to have you around!

    • Considering we're investigating a murder he committed and are the central dupe of a grand conspiracy he's working on, I'd think he has every reason to try to keep us from having the ability to always succeed. It's not personal, it's practical. I mean he killed his own friend to cover it up, why wouldn't he lie to a relative stranger? After the game ended Enderall just kinda lived in my head rent-free for weeks. Thanks for doing this series, it helped me unpack so much!
