    • @@donotreply8979 judging by the kittens body structure (not size, she clearly may be stunted from being a stray) and the fact that she has teeth and wants to eat solid food, she's weened and doesn't necessarily need soft food. on top of that-- he shows that he's been softening the kibble with water, which is the biggest issue with dry foods, and not their nutritional content. kibble is just fine for her. 💖

  • She’s got personality! As a kitten foster parent: given that she seems social already and is pretty small, you could consider free feeding her - just always leaving a bit of food out - so that she can chow down whenever she’s hungry! Another thing is not playing with her with your fingers, or else she’ll consider them toys and could get bitey/scratchy with them. I recommend the Kitten Lady youtube channel for good tips (and whatever your vet says).

    • Free feeding is dry food and that is the worst food for cats as it has no natural water content. The opposite of what cats need. Also it is better that their digestive system have plenty of time between meals. If feeding wet food it should not be out more than 2 hours like any food. Afterc2 hours throw out any food. And feed again later. They should always have fresh clean water available to drink in a clean bowl.

Maybe after some times has passed but this is also an issue with dogs where they will see each other as their pack mates and you the human as an external hand that feeds them. He does however play way too way too rough for me or the dogs 🤣 tons of biting and scratching. He’s cut down on that a lot obviously but sometimes when he has zoomies he’ll get a sneak attack bite in. Not often and it’s usually only 1 but still painful

      @islanddryad@islanddryad7 ай бұрын
    • @@ethannguyen9638 It's actually much better to adopt two kittens at once. Kittens are playful little things with lots of energy. They require a lot of playtime. Humans may not be able to meet that. Also, trust me when I say a single kitten will grow up thinking you're their playmate and WILL bite your hands and feet, even with playtime. I learnt this after 8 months with my kitten and got him a playmate. The biting immediately stopped. And they both still give me a lot of attention and love cuddling with me. It's better to have that distinction between playmate and human. They'll be much gentler with you and will only show biting, scratching behavior towards each other and keep each other in check.

You can't really train flushing. But there's a really really easy kit and it's much more economical and smells better. ❤ She looks 6-8 weeks old. Her ears are fully up and her stomach is fullt furry. Momma didn't abandon, she's weaning age. Momma was done. I think she's deaf too. Even though she isn't white, her loudness is a sign. You're a good cat dad. ❤ congratulations on your new baby! Don't forget they teeth and she will loose her baby teeth in a few weeks. Give her frozen kitty treat tubes like a kitty popsicle to gnaw on that will help her with teething. • Indoor cats live longer than outdoor cats!! It might seem intimidating as a first time cat owner, but you might seriously benefit from a second kitten considering how energetic your little thing is. Kittens are highly social and form very very strong bonds with each other, but most importantly they keep each other busy. If she isn’t destructive to your home or obsessive over you and playing with you, don’t worry too much, but if you’re starting to feel overwhelmed, another kitten of a similar age might be a solution!

    • All of my outdoor cats lived to 18 or 20. But the outdoor time was usually supervised, and they were very well looked after. Cats naturally want fresh air, sunlight, and grass and tree bark under their paws -- even more than people. We force them to stay indoors for human convenience, not for cats.

      @xnellyxs1@xnellyxs16 ай бұрын
    • @xnellyxs1 if you can't make your cat happy living inside then that is entirely your problem. it is so easy to provide enough enrichment for a cat that it doesn't need to free-roam outside, and if you can't do that then you shouldn't have a cat. letting a cat free-roam outside not only puts the cat in danger, but also the local wildlife. domestic cats have singlehandedly put species of native birds on the endangered list. the first step to being a good cat owner is realizing that cats are an invasive species practically everywhere on the planet, and that to let them free-roam outside only puts their life and the ecosystem in jeopardy

  • I highly recommend getting a second kitten if you can because unlike they say, cats are actually very social animals and when they are abandoned at a young age and rescued they don't learn from the mom how to properly play and how to socialize correctly and they usually develop more "agressive" behaviors that are just their way of playing but if they have a sibling they learn through each other what is play and what hurts and they are a lot happier and it's easier for them later on because they are more socialized.

    • seconded, i found a kitten a year ago and was working alot at the time so couldnt socialize him properly. just found another one a few days ago and introducing them is going very slow because the older one is lonely and wants to play but never learned how to do it gently, so he ends up scaring the new guy :( its also my fault because i dont know how to discipline a cat without hitting it (which i dont believe in hitting animals or children) so when he's too rough with me he's never really punished, i just go to my room for a while until he calms himself down, which means he has no idea of the force hes using. it will be a lot easier and keep gui a lot happier than she would be alone in the house while youre at work or school if you get another kitten now while shes young so they can bond and be lifelong friends :)

    • 100%. Your dog may be enough in the future but as a precaution I would get her a companion kitten. She most likely has separation anxiety disorder, and can become obsessed with you in an unhealthy and life-affecting way (nonstop yowling like a human baby, demanding you to be with her in a room she prefers 24/7, anxiety/health problems if you leave the home for more than a few hours a day). It can be damaging to your mental health (speaking from experience). EDIT: I noticed multiple cats and a dog in the video. If these are your pets, no need to get a companion kitten!

Don’t be afraid to get a ton of toys at the start- the sooner you figure out what tickles her prey drive, the better. Catnip, crinkly material, feathers, things that look like mice, scraps of paper, strings, big toys, small toys, soft things, balls- every cat is different and that crazy, frenzied playtime with a kitten is just about the best and funniest thing ever in my book. Congrats on rescuing that sweet baby!

    • His allergies could well get worse as well. Allergies are like that. Another thing is that they could change. If I spend acute time with a cat I’ll have all sorts of head cold and eye reactions, badly. When I love with a cat these decrease, except in the morning, but I develop a chronic asthmatic wheeze that is very bad for health. I am less allergic to dogs. And I used to be more allergic to dogs than I am now. When I acquired one puppy I found myself not allergic to her. The other dog I’m quite allergic to. It’s the saliva/fluids not dander I believe. And also yeast, dogs have yeast on their skin and some have more than others.

  • Cat mom and kitty foster parent here! You're doing great with the little one despite being a first-timer! I'm not sure if you're already doing this, but if I can offer some advice, the one thing I always tell new kitten parents/fosters is to make sure their kitten is getting enough calories. They need an immense amount of calories but have small stomachs, so I typically advise feeding multiple meals throughout the day. Basically, if the kitten is willing to eat, go ahead and give it food! Excited for the next update on 구이/Gooey!!

  • Get her a scratchwr for every room. She won't really scratch anything else then. She just needs her own things. The best toy I've ever found is a metal wire with little pieces of cardboard attached to each end. I found it in the pet store for a couple bucks. I'm getting to the end of the kitten phase with two kittens, so this just makes me think of my own. Have fun! Cats can be just as loving and caring as dogs. They're just different.

  • Congrats on the new family member! (Unsolicited opinions below) 2 things I saw in the comments i agree are good ideas (as someone who has always had cats) 1) 2 are better. They socialize each other and provide another playmate. It's actually also more entertainment for human guardians as well 👍🏻. 2) starting trimming while young is great. I also play with my cats feet so they're slightly desensitized to it. Eating some wet food as well is better than just crunchy all the time. I really hope you enjoy as their personality grows and matures with you. I am a cat person through and through (with slight allergies 😂) so I may be biased, but they are awesome creatures.

  • Congrats on becoming a cat dad via the world cat distribution network! I can already tell you two will be so close. I had a cat from childhood live to 21, passed this year on New Year's Day, and was left heartbroken by it... until I went to a shelter one day just to "look around" and came across a lil black kitten in June. He is a complete 180 from my previous cat in terms of personality- super social, super adventurous and curious, and has a big striped fluffy tail that's developed. He is insane but he makes me laugh so much everyday from his craziness. You need to everything by their rules, but they will be with you when you need it most. Good luck!
