Jane Rosenberg has one of the best seats in the courtroom as one of the sketch artists for the first criminal trial of a former president. She speaks with Alex Witt about what she’s seen and drawn so far.

  • Sending the emails to the FBI should be standard practice. Even if someone doesn't go after her, the next artist might not be so lucky. Law enforcement should be informed.

    • ​@@stutzbearcat5624 if you put those 10 artists you know under the same conditions, they will likely struggle as well. As a court artist, you have a limited time to draw and often have terrible view points that are far away from the subject. And most annoyingly, none of your subjects stay still! It's hard when you've already started drawing them in a position and they move. So you have to remember and/or use your imagination or start again.

    • Interesting. I've been regretting that I paid so little attention to politics, thinking that democracy will take care of itself. Maybe if I'd taken my civic responsibility more serious, watched closer, gotten involved, some of the vile trends that have come to fruition over the last 8 years could have been prevented.

    • Yeah, that artist rendered in blended pastels, which takes more time, and lends a calmness to the scene. Whereas, Ms Rosenberg's drawings are sketchy, which depicts a more appropriate anxiety.

    • Yeah, that one image with all the soft pastel colors was by another courtroom artist, Christine Cornell. Her style is totally different from Jane's. CNN made the same mistake but in reverse. CNN showed Jane Rosenberg's sketches during an interview with Christine.

  • Just FYI, closing your eyes (and maybe even falling asleep) is classic avoidance behavior. When what you are siting through pains you psychologically, this is how you escape (if you are prevented from physically leaving the room).

  • Donald Trump is often closing his eyes as an attempt to escape accountability. I'm sure he also falls asleep plenty, as has been noted by many astute journalists, but I also believe w/some of it, the Stormy Daniels testimony for instance, it's just a way of closing out the reality of what's happening in the case. He's a fragile man w/a fragile ego.

    • Some sources say the sketch artists use pastels, not colored pencils. Pastels, when skillfully used, can put down lots of color and line very quickly - which is vital when trying to capture fleeting moments. Colored pencils are fine for more detailed work, but much slower.

  • We shouldn't have court room sketches. We should have this case livestreamed, or AT LEAST aired with like a10 min delay so they could blur faces if they felt it was necessary. This is one of the most important cases in US history, it could be the first to send a former President to jail or even prison. The American people should be able to see the proceedings.
