DC created GO GO music which put us on the map musically but GOGO music only went so far. Memphis, Atlanta, New York, California all have their own sound. DC never had a rap scene so we can't expect Wale to create a sound and put the whole city on his back. Wale did his part by bringing light to where he claims he from and it's your job to grind and make the most of the attention just like Fat Trel and Shy Glizzy did. The only thing holding Ant back is he talks too much and nobody even responds to him 🤣🤣🤣Wale could've come out and never even mentioned DC or GOGO music 😂 he brought the attention. People don't give them enough credit if you listening to the artistry they get better with time. It so many intelligent lyrical cats from DC but our problem is we try to ride the wave of other cities just to get on. That's what hold us back more than anything. We don't develop our own unique sound and the artist that's talented have real lyricism ..word play classified as cornballs...we not Chicago...we not Atlanta...so many people think that's that's the top of the top...but we in a position to literally change the sound and the direction of music and culture for black people with the talent here and all we gotta do is be ourselves...support each other.

No Savage could have done something on the mainstream level because although he was rapping about the same shit as every other DC artist. He had good work ethic and actually was lyrical with it. • I definitely see what Ant is saying at a point. Once he used the chief keep analogy I understood. But like cheese said, they dropping the ball themselves. Wale shined that light on the dmv so its on other artists to blow. But he definitely is different from other DC artists. Assuming there are more "gangsta" rappers than there are regular rappers is prematurely ignorant. Maybe Ant is just speaking from his lense I think his argument is biased.

But to me Wale represents the DMV, which is not the city, at least not to the old school guys like me. • It’s a difference between putting someone on and complaining about getting put on. 1. The current crop of DMV rappers with deals, Not under Wale’s umbrella. 2. The bulk of the artists that were associated with Board of Administration didn’t blown up per se. Trel got his, but did a lot of grinding after he left BOA. 3. There are other DMV Rappers with deals. Ade, Goldlink, Logic, Rico Nasty, Oddisee… They just aren’t in the trap space. What Ant is saying is, Wale’s 10+ year run hasn’t been filled with a flood of rappers after him. Granted there’s others for sure. But the Yo Gotti’s, The Durk’s, The Lil Baby’s, The Gucci’s, they all brought others to the table and set plays for others to flourish. THAT hasn’t happened YET here in The DMV. So when random rappers say, “Wale put me on.” It’s more so, “Wale co-signed me and looked out.” And not, “Wale used his platform to get me a deal.” I get what Ant saying. Ant ain’t complaining about not being out on.
