  • Buc-ee’s and Wawa actually have completely different customer bases. Wawa started in the dense northern cities. They built up a reputation for customer service and quality. A lot of their customers have gotten in the habit of starting their mornings at Wawa. This is why they have so many options and ordering might be confusing because for the vast majority of customers ordering at Wawa has been something they’ve been doing for most of their life. They didn’t add gas pumps until after they started getting popular. Buc-ee’s started in the south as a truckstop. In the south there is so much empty land that gas stations can be up to 200miles apart. So Buc-ee’s built theirselves up as a destination for road trippers and 18 wheeler drivers that were getting gas. Their goal is to convince people buying gas to spend more money and things they didn’t know that they wanted.

  • A Hoagie is the South Jersey/Philadelphia name for the sandwich regularly known as a Sub (or Submarine Sandwich). Central and North Jersey has Subs. The main difference is the hoagie bun is not cut all the way through and everything is wedged in. The Sub bread is cut all the way through and has a better distribution of the food in between the bread.

  • Someone from NJ here for facts about Wawa! -The name Wawa comes from a native American word for snow geese (Canadian geese) because of the sound they make. -The stuffed pretzels are hit and miss depending on when you go, but when they're fresh absolutely nothing beats them. -Everyone who gets breakfast gets Sizzlis, which are in the area you got the pretzels during breakfast hours. They come in many different variations of sausage/ bacon egg and cheese on croissants, bagels, waffles, etc -Wawa isn't always a gas station, there are lots of stand alone places that people go to just for an easy meal. -The mac and cheese is literally always squishy, but sometimes you want to hate yourself and it's the only thing that will do. -Hoagies and subs are the same thing, but the term "hoagie" is really only used in the greater Philly area. Neither would ever be called a sandwich, like Josh said in the cheese steak video, sandwiches are with the little stacked pieces of bread.

Wawa Iced Tea - personally my fav is the diet green tea (idk the diet tastes better to me), but i also love the tangerine white tea or any fruit black tea 3. Breakfast Sizzlis - my personal favorite is the sausage biscuit oh and also their hashbrowns 4. Buffalo chicken quesadilla - all cheddar is my fav but i know a lot of people like it w pepper jack Lastly, i love that you got an italian, but personally I get an italian with oil and vinegar, lettuce, onions, pickles, salt, pepper, oregano, and parmesan. • Philly native here. Wawa's food used to be a lot better. It does vary store by store....but overall the quality was higher 10+ years ago, but to attract more customers they expanded their menu away from just hoagies, prepared food to go (like the stuffed pretzels, etc.), and breakfast sandwiches to include pizza, burgers, etc. and it impacted the quality of it all. Many people, myself included, are dying for them to slim their menu down like 20 to 33% or more and focus on what they can do well. And yeah, a hoagie from Wawa is nowhere near as good as a hoagie from one of the dozens of great pizza/hoagie spots in Philly (and its suburbs).

  • Wawa was best when they sourced everything externally instead of making everything in house. They started out just as a deli originally so they used to get all of their cold cuts from Boar's Head, had their bread delivered daily from an Italian bakery in Philly (one very much like the bread that Angelo's has for their cheesesteaks) and locally sourced most things that could be. That period when they were basically a local deli in a gas station was definitely the only time it could challenge Buc-ee's. Unfortunately with their huge expansion, they're just a shadow of themselves when it comes to quality convenience.

It's an institution in many towns in the region. One of the things I've found in my 28 years is that Wawa stores that cater to people locally tend to have a lot better quality control and such than the ones that you'll find along the highway or even major roads

I work in hundreds of different restaurants, including places like Burger King, Wendy's, Dairy Queens, KFCs, you name it. And they ALL vary wildly. It's 100% who works there and how much they care about the job they're doing.

  • Their spring time seasonal blueberry donuts this year and last summer's strawberry cream filled donuts were/are the bomb😋 Wawa is a staple for PA and NJ. It started as a dairyfarm in PA. I used to drive around all day for work and Wawa was at least 3 stops a day. Gas, food, drinks, and bathrooms. Good for roadtrips or everyday. You missed some key items though. Their to go breakfasts, served before 11am, their "Sizzlis" (which you can order at the counter after noon if you ask nicely)but before 11am they can be found ready to go where you found the stuffed pretzels. Those heaters are filled with Sizzli sandwiches. Basically, bacon or sausage, egg and cheese sandwiches on croissants, English muffins, bagels, pancakes (like the McDonald's mcgriddle)and now waffles. They also have hash browns. The wraps and quesadillas are simple and good. The perogi quesadilla is ridiculous with sour cream. In November, the Gobbler Hoagie and bowls. Turkey in gravy on mashed potatoes and/or sweet potatoes, stuffing (you call it dressing) and cranberry sauce on a roll or in a bowl is the best. All the hoagies are solid, more preference though. Their brand bottled teas and juices...super yum. The chips are mostly local brands. Herr's, Utz...so on. But you also truly missed out on 2 things you can grab there. Actual Philly soft pretzels (by the registers usually) and Philly's pride and joy TASTYKAKES!!! Tastykake is one of the oldest bakery companies in the US. The PB Kandykakes, their butterscotch krimpets and their real individual pies in the mini boxes are the BEST. The pies in the mini rectangle boxes can't be sold outside the tristate, because they have a shelf life of a week. They're made with real ingredients. Not the fake ones in parchment wrappers for tourists, but the actual tiny rectangle boxes with the pies baked in individual tins. Blueberry, lemon, apple, peach, Boston cream...all good.🥰 Buckees is a tourist attraction. Wawa is a way of life. 😆💙💙💙😍

Traditional Hoagies include an "Italian", an "American", Ham &Cheese, Turkey & Cheese, etc. If it is a hot, like the cheesesteaks you recently tried or those meatballs, it is just called a sandwich. BTW, nobody would ever put every Wawa menu topping on one sandwich... that's madness. Wawa is awesome, but as it has expanded and franchised the quality if its hoagies have gone way down.
