So when my ex gf asked me what she should replace her JEEP with? I said, go look at the Santa Fe. She didn't like anything about it.😢 And then she drove it.😂 So she bought it.🎉 Her Jeep needed gas every week. Her SF, every 3 weeks. She even took it back to the dealership, because she thought the gas gauge was broken.😂😂😂 She's on her 5th one since 2001, and has loved every one of them.❤🎉❤🎉❤

And I mean a lot. Had a friend had his engine replaced under warranty a few weeks back rod bearing failure. When they dropped off their Santa Fe at the dealership they drove around back there was pallets and I mean pallets of blown 4cyl engines that had to be replaced under thankfully warranty.

  • I'll say it - for those of us who remember when Hyundai debuted in the late 80s, we will always associate them with cheap cars of questionable quality. But, the fact of the matter is that for the past decade or so they've upped their game significantly and now they actually make extremely high quality, darn near luxurious vehicles. Ask someone in their 20s and they'll look at you like you're nuts if you claim Hyundai equals garbage.

They're good cars...they lack character...but you don't want a characterful vehicle to discover it's personality in the middle of nowhere, loaded up... Kia has the 7 year unlimited warranty here...I think Hyundai have matched it now. • I think the new Hyundais and Kia’s are much better now than they were before. My cousin has a 4th generation Hyundai Santa Fe, and her husband has a Hyundai Santa Cruz. I think they are a 2021 or a 2022 model year, both are very nice. This new generation 2024 Santa Fe looks very expensive and luxurious.

  • "The Careless Whisper Test". That's funny. We have the same sort of test. Our is the CSN "Southern Cross" test. Anytime that song comes on Yacht Rock Radio (which is, alot) the girlfriend has to crank it to eleven, roll down the windows and let everyone know . . . she can't really sing, but godd@mn, she loves that song.

  • Just coming from Doug DeMuro's profile of the new(ish) Range Rover Sport Autobiography, I'd say this Santa Fe is clearly the better move if you don't have money to burn - initially or over the course of ownership. (Also, April digging all the hidden compartments...let's just say I love her thinking, and you're one lucky guy. )

  • I am a huge Hyundai fan, but getting tired of them putting the 2.5t in EVERYTHING. This truck is beautiful, but so underpowered when compared to the SUVs in this class. Keep it up April you are doing great

    • Look around, V6 are gone. 2.5 turbo is for emissions standard. Maybe 5 -10 years ago it would be underpowered. This is all you get now from any car maker for a mid size suv

  • I grew up in Calabasas California where status is king and as a master mechanic I have worked on a lot of very expensive cars that are truly just $ pits. Currently I call San Luis Obispo home and our sleepy little college town got a Porsche dealership and Tesla dealer along with multiple Sprinter conversion shops. Status status and more status symbols. I’m guilty myself with our 2 cars 2017 Mazda 3 (Baller) pimped out and a 2009 Porsche 997.2

  • Nice car review :) That new Santa Fe looks pretty sweet. I wouldn't call the first santa fe terrible... well, it has a unique ugly-ish look to it but compared to it's competition back then, it wasn't bad at all. Also it came with a 2.7 V6 which drinks too much gas for it's size but the fact is that 2.7 V6 (and the same generation 2.0) is honda reliable. (I owned a 2002 Elantra with the 2.0, a tucson with the 2.0 and a tucson 4x4 with the V6... Very reliable cars.
