  • Fun fact, cheetahs are one of the only big wild cats that purr like a common house cat Edit: when I said “big cat” I meant a wild cat larger than average sized house cats, though some Maine coins can get rather large… so, large cat for people I confused.

  • love how with lions and tigers and hippos and idk zebras zookeepers are always like "now they trust us but it is never safe to share their space" and then you get a cheetah and it's just "now here is my buddy, as you see he's a good boy and likes the pets"

    • Well, all the cheetahs at Cincinnati Zoo are in the ambassador program, meaning they've had contact with the Keepers from a very early age, some of them had to be hand-raised.

  • Cheetahs are weirdly chill. In Pumping Iron there's a scene where either Lou or Arnold is posing with a cheetah and it was licking the shiny oil off of them.

    • Yeah, cheetahs can purr :) so can pumas! Pumas however are the biggest cat that can purr. All the ones that roar can’t.

    • Though they are wild animals, Cheetahs are incredibly nervous, and almost guaranteed to choose flight over fight. There has _never_ been a recorded instance of a wild Cheetah attacking a human that I know of. Which does effectively mean that taming one, while still *a bad idea,* isn't as dangerous as attempting the same with, say, a Tiger or a Leopard, simply because if upset, the Cheetah is more likely to flee than attack.

  • Did you know that big cats that CAN purr do it for different reasons? For example, if they were hurt, they would purr to heal faster!

  • This reminds me of the Van Gogh movie "At Eternity's Gate". They use the feet walking shots quite a bit and usually cuts to something random afterwards. Also nice kitty!
