Not every version of the book has that underline since I checked my book for it
Dude you're totally milking this, respect
Plot Twist: Greg was actually the one who honked the horn, and lied about it in the journal to cover his tracks.
That Could be possible. Maybe all these things he got blamed for, maybe he did it. Like in Old School how one of his cabin mates put a fish in the skibidi toilet and mr Jefferson assumed Greg did it.
*HE* : notice this letter... *ME* : runs to my room to get the book
To add emphasis he capitalizes, but when I's are already supposed to be capitalized he has to underline. But your right, he only used the underline ONCE out of all his journals which is pretty cool that you spotted
this man needs a life
Living a happy one 😊
bro go outside
Also in 1st book when greg was in the auditorium and look out and saw Rodrick there was a new type of handwriting
I was also confused by this when I read the book for the first time.
I always thought about this too. He had to put the underline and bold because the I is capital by default, so capitalizing a capital letter would prove futile. However, when I first saw this, I thought up of an alternative: "So when Mr. Litch turned around, it looked like it was ME who honked the horn."
this is such an underrated channel
Greg can also write cursive too. He did this in the book where his mother got Isabella, their maid for like, a month. He wrote Isabella notes in cursive to make it seem like his mom was writing them asking her to wash his clothes.
I have a theory that Isabella knew Greg was forging his Moms signature. That’s why she didn’t clean the clothes or do any sort of laundry.
The fact they capitalize words helps out a lot
At the beggining of the first Book, we can see a drawing of Greg that shows him with the pencil in his LEFT hand, but in other Books he says that he can't write with his left hand, only with the right one...
So I did some thinking and I got it. Perhaps Greg got a paper that had the font on it,and traced it onto his diary-UH I MEAN JOURNAL!
how english teachers be expecting us to analyze
Greg can write cursive, we see when he gets rodricks music, we see his cursive In hard luck we see him say he needs rowley to write it
Even if it wasn't bolded and underlined, you could still notice it if you look close enough. The font of that "I" looks different from all the other I's, because it's emphasized. As a matter of fact, if you look close enough, you can notice that the capitalized letter for emphasis are different than grammatically capitalized letters.
I actually remember noticing this and thinking it was weird, but the comments help explain it
No, he also used used cursive in THAT book when he wrote that note to Natasha
Also, Last Straw has the only exclamation mark (!) I've seen in the entire seriees
It Was Dad!!!
I read this book a while ago and I never noticed that before.
I read this in 2012 and I never really payed any attention to it.
I think he underlined it to make it look like other times he emphasized something but since I is already supposed to be capitalized he underlined it to give the same effect.
There should be a font called "Greffly" with the iconic handwriting. Change my mind
There is WimpyKidCured.otf or .ttf
I remember back in 2009 (btw there was only 4 books back then) I got all 4 books, and actually fun fact The Last Straw was the first book I ever read, and when I saw that the I was underlined, I questioned it for more than 10 years (11 years to be exact) and this video helped me figure out the mystery. Thanks
Rodrick Rules is the first one I’ve ever read in 2009. I eventually got the Ugly Truth in 2013 and I read it occasionally since.
bro his hand writing is so neat like how😨😨😨
wow...how does this effect my life? why is this such a good easter egg? why am i intrigued in this short? somethings are jsut so random. you earn a sub.
This brings back childhood memories
Why was I so interested with this
You know the author “Jeff Kinney” has a habit to capitalize certain words to show the important part and you know in English EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE THAT HAS AN “I” in it has to be capitalized NO MATTER WHAT so the “I” was already capitalized so he wanted to make it capitalized in another way, by underlining it and that is the only time he capitalized the “I” in a different way
Greg is also wearing a black shirt in this one, which has only been seen before one other time
I read this book many times and even the whole series and I can't believe I didn't notice this.
As Someone who has all the books in the series, I can confirm that this is definitely true.Execpt I do not have the 13th book in the series, since it is new.
There's more. One time he was writing a letter to Santa where he was talking about not throwing a crab apple at a cat (I think in Cabin Fever) and in the Third Whell, when people were picking partners for the square dance, and Greg wrote "Please do not pair me with Ruby Bird". In those 2 notes, he had different handwriting
I noticed that too, in Rowley's journal its the same deal.
I remember reading books of that series, I've stopped Years ago but I still have some of them
I must say, Greg has top notch handwriting and even spices his text up with capitalized words and bold text. I would honestly become a poet or something at that point.
*Me going though every letter through all the diary of a wimpy kid books to fact check this*
I have almost the entire series ( because i was once a third grader ) and this is a pretty cool detail.
It’s because “I” is already capitalized, so the only way to make it stand out is by either putting it in bold or underlining it
Bro. The end of the last straw has that handwriting too. Its bolded for, "THE END".
That was a joke though… and it’s bigger than the normal letters, So IT DOESNT COUNT!!
its emboldened AND larger. So in my opinion its even MORE unique@@okjeffy6581
At the end of dog days You also see the handwriting
I don’t remember in which book but he said that he knows hot to write in cursive but his hand hurts when he writes cursive. That is why he mostly writes in normal handwriting. He only uses cursive for letters and signatures.
There's also the time where he wrote a fake letter about a bully because he didn't eat an apple, and he had a different handwriting to really make it like someone else wrote the letter.
I noticed that too I just thought it was a thing to make it stand out more
"by far the only instance" Either it's the only instance, or there are others. It's not comparative.
Three some other writing in book 1 with underscore
im pretty sure in double down in greg's project about the moose When the moose says "But we smell heck of a lot better than antelopes" Greg says "I said EXtinct!" with EX underlined like in the last straw
Greg has used a bold phone text-ish font before in an illustration on Page 3 of the Oldschool book
Tbh I sometimes capitalize words for “No reason.” I can’t really remember why
Imagine if Greg put a -I-
i just realised all 3 of my siblings have the same writing has gregory, just shows how dependant we all were on this book
Also in The Ugly Truth with the maid.
Well, theres another handwriting he has actually! In diary of a wimpy kid Big Shot (the newest book) theres a page saying that he damaged his right hand and he had to write with his left hand, and shows the picture of it. (I got it like a day after it came out, so I dont think anyone has pointed it out)
It’s worth noting that Greg uses a different font for his all-caps words than he does for normal capital letters.
INCORRECT! he can also write like a printer! in the book "THE UGLY TRUTH" on page 9 it shows a textbook greg was useing in said textbook he drew the doodles and the computer writing and he didnt just rip a page out to- also it all is in his style so this means that greg has three types of hand writing
I completely forgot this series exists
Also, there where four exclamation marks above Greg’s head in “old school”, when his dad enters the cabin by surprise as a substitute
:proceeds to go through every single page chapter and book to see if it happens again
He also writes differently when imitating other characters. For example, if there was a note from his parents, he might wrote in cursive for the best imitation of it.
In no brainer he is principal for a day and signs a check with a secret hand writing
When he underlines the I, is that still in the same book the last straw?
I was confused what he meant until I saw it meant "I was" and not "HONK". Idk why I thought it was honk
Same
Oh yes, this is definitely a game changer
“It is by far the only instance” 😂
I thought I̲ was the only one that noticed this
Also in many books greg talks about how he cant write cursive and makes rowley it for him BUT whenever he shows something written by rowley or gregs mom susan it is writtennin cursive
Will we just forget about when Greg writes cards?
Ah yes, I too am a virgin
Pretty cool. I love it
Keep up the grind my guy
Thanks!
This isn't a secret handwriting, you just have too much free time
I also remember he only used an explanation point like two times lol
This is the most random thing and I love it
Did he just look threw all the books to figure that out, that's dedication
For those unaware, It is so it is clear that I is being emphasized. The idea behind the capitalized words is that it creates emphasis while reading. I is already capitalized so in order to compensate, it is underlined
wow, a line! how groundbreaking.
