    • @@larryarcher4502 I REALLY need some old school advice! I've got a 2000 Buick, replaced motor 30,000 miles ago. She's not been driven much until lately so I sprung for plugs, wires, ignition coils. Very next trip over 30 miles, no buck, no hesitation, just died. Had it towed back to mechanic, scans clean. The crank sensor was changed after motor replacement so had the ignition interface replaced. She still dies, only when warm. Not running hot, fuel pressure is okay. I've been told the computer isn't sensitive enough on these models & just run it until it won't run anymore! Can't trust her though, she starts & runs after she cools off SO WTF? I'm seeking any experience mechanics have had, this has stumped all the ones I've known. HELP!!!!

    • @@silkroad1201 Many V12 Mercs have 24, and since most will service at the dealer it could cost $3k++ To my knowledge there isn't an aftermarket for the wires on many of those engines so it would still be about $2K for DIY. Chrysler/Dodge was blessed with a lot of Mercedes tech during their marriage. Dual spark plugs maybe not so much, only because even supercars can get by just fine with 1 per cylinder

Hell you have no lift, you use basic handtools, not even a shop to work in. Most others have shops, tools and equipment that cost 10's of thousands of $$. You just consistently deliver sound automotive analysis and effective repairs without all the lavish tools others use. I guess you are truly the "shade tree mechanic" and a damn fine one!

  • I have been self educating myself on auto repair for the past few months and i would be much worse off if not for you Scotty. You are very straight forward and talk facts with your audience. I have a 2000 ford ranger (3.0/V6) and it's idle has been rough. The guy at autozone told me it was my erg valve pressure sensor (which they tried to sell to me on the spot for $90.00) so i did my homework. I figured out that it could be that or the vacuum hoses attached to the part. It could even be a mucked up idle air intake valve. What i am trying to say is that your videos gave me a sense of confidence in learning about my vehicle and what to expect in certain situations/conditions. I also figured out from watching your videos that i dont have to pay $90.00 at autozone when i LITERALLY found the same part online for around $26.00. I have one video recommendation though, i think many others would benefit from hearing your thoughts on reputable online car part markets. I want to make sure that i am buying from a reliable source and for fair prices and i have a feeling you would know better than I 😂

  • Excellent diagnostic especially with using you head about the main areas that cause instability with car ignitions. I remember having a 93' Ford explorer (tank) years ago had the fewest problems of any vehicle I ever had but I accidentally cracked the mass air flow sensor on top tapping it too hard. So after it running like a James bond getaway truck with smoke barreling out of it I had it replaced and it ran super once again. Keeping up with simple maintenance rides you of headaches on even these fantastic reliable vehicles for sure.

  • Scotty, quite honestly, what is the best scan tool for a backyard mechanic to keep up with our older vehicles? 2002 Suburban, hopefully upgrading to a Toyota Sequoya next year. Keeping the Sub, that's going to stay filled with gear for camping/fishing the BWCA. Oh, small game season opened a few days ago. Time to fill the freezer with tree rats. OMG I made this comment before I even watched the video. In the 70's on C141s, we swapped pilot/copilot avionics all the time to see if the problem followed the component. Oh, by the way, when did the (insert politically incorrect statement or curse word) morons take over Texas? Even that knob Jesse got rid of that crap in MN years ago. Run for office in LaLa land, oh, I mean Austin.
