  • The angled price of metal with the two squares on the end is a windlass used to operate the paddles on the lock doors for operating the locks. The two little squares are the part that you attach to the end price to crank the gears to open the paddles or slouces on the gates of the lock, allowing water to enter the lock or drain the lock to enter it leave the lock

    @abigailhowes5944@abigailhowes59442 жыл бұрын
    • Yes that bit of metal could have some value, all boaters should carry a spare one, as if you drop it in the lock you are stuck. Chandlers shops (Boat spares shops) no doubt would want a good few pounds for one! I saw a magnet fishing video where a chap found four of the things near a lock the boat owners were well pleased when he gave them away!

      @kevanparker908@kevanparker908 Жыл бұрын
  • That thing you found at the start of the video that you didn't know what it was, is a lock key you attach it to the sluice and it becomes the handle every boat owner has them to operate the lock gates!!

  • 😂😂😂you had me in tears today - breaking the glass table top, getting snagged, losing your magnet then half of the chain you were using to get it! Brilliant Leigh. I could watch this all day. First lol I’ve had for ages 👍. I’m from Scotland so hoping to see you up here!

    • The item with handle and two square holes is a Windlass for opening the paddles to allow water into and out of a canal lock.

      @briantett0111@briantett01112 жыл бұрын
  • I haven't read all the comments, so I don't know if anyone's answered this already, but your 'weird thing' at 1:10 is a lock 'key', used to open and close the sluice gates between the locks so that the barges/narrowboats can go from one lock to another. It's pretty grotty, but cleaned up it should still be usable, and you could pass it on to some boat owner using the canals. Congratulations on finding the Le Creuset frying pan! The magnet-fishing gods were smiling on you with that one! And thank you for cleaning up your trash. As Scott of Crazy Magnet Family Hargood points out, magnet fishers are getting a bad name because of those who leave their unwanted finds strewn all over the place instead of calling a scrap man or taking it to a scrap yard themselves.

  • Love the kindness you see in other countries, everyone speaking the same language and with the same accent shouldnt make that big a difference but sadly it does. In the states people are more susceptible to judgement and indifference because they feel they arent the same. But we are all human, and kindness should be something you dont even have to think twice.

  • Pretty sure that big iron thing you used to smash that glass table is a stage weight, used for stabilising scenery flats. The notches are for the diagonal support struts behind the flats, you just dump the weight over the strut and it keeps the thing upright. Probably better explanations out there but yeah, that's a stage weight.
