  • Hey Dom, casting a spinner right now can be fun too. I think casting a micro set up, where you are casting the weight of the fly and not the weight of your line, is just a short step from spin casting.

  • Midges and small black stonefly in February on the Savage. Wonderful dry fly fishin’ in the coldest part of winter. Yep 11-2 then back to the nymphs.

  • 👏 the segment about learning how to read water in the east! Growing up in western Maine as a kid I always floated and dammed up little streams. Fast forward life and who knew that would pay off as I learn to fly fish later in life ❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • Great discussion and so many good tips here. I will definitely listen to this one again! One thing that made me nod my head in agreement was the comment on how some things work on some rivers and not on others. Like Dom, my home water, the Lower Sacramento River, doesn't really have predictable hatches conducive to dry fly fishing. It can happen and if you are lucky enough to be out on the river when it does, then magic happens. And it's not a streamer fishing wonderland (no guides I know use streamers here like you'd see in a Kelly Galloup video mainly because we don't have Browns, just fat lazy rainbows). Mostly, if you want to fish here, it's nymphing. And it's a VERY big river so it ain't an easy nut to crack with very little safe wading access. And I love that about it. It's a big mysterious water but when I crack the code on a given day, it's way fun. Of course, going with a guide on a drift boat is pretty much a guaranteed bang but I like just going out my door and giving it my best shot on my own. Great episode Spencer and Dom!

  • I'm a beginner and I watched this and still have very little understanding of how to fish a nymph. I watched a video of yours with Ales on fishing a streamer, Wooly Bugger and I went out this week and caught 4 trout, which I had NEVER done before. Love your channel. !

    • Thats super cool. Love to hear that you’re putting it into action! Yeah this conversation was little bit more advanced. If you are new to nymphing, might be good to start with our Nymphing 101 video - kzhead.info/sun/ZL6qctqEcJ9sfp8/bejne.html We also did a beginner friendly nymphing 101 podcast that you might find helpful. • Awesome content you guys are putting out. I’m just getting into fly fishing / tying. I came across the Untangled podcast and binge listened everyone while working. Spencer I heard you mention you’ve made some bamboo fly rods. This seems very interesting to me as I’m wanting to get my foot into the industry some more, could you possibly talk about it in an upcoming podcast or even make a video on the process of making bamboo rods?
