One thing that really helped me was understanding that you don't get rid of the anxiety as such, you become okay with it by venturing into on purpose and teaching your body that it's okay to feel. Paradoxically the anxiety fades because you've got better at being with it. This was definitely a process where patience and compassion was key for me, you got this! @@Heroo01

  • I have been living in China full time since 2018. I've tried making it my goal to show the outside world China is a beautiful country with wonderful people. I've faced a ton of backlash because of it, so to see a huge channel such as you guys share the message I believe in to a larger audience makes me incredibly happy.

    • I spent some time there way back in 2010. And even then China felt already way ahead the compensation. So clean and so modern. However, whe I returned home and started telling people about it no one wanted to believe me. They said i was exposed to too much propaganda. It's sad how easy your own friends and family will go against you to defend something they heard from the media without even experiencing themselves! 😢😢😢

Having seen this, I'm even more excited about when I'll finally be able to take them up on their offer and visit the rest of their family in China. Fyi - it was uncle and aunty, but somehow it's become momma and pop 😅 We have dinner regularly and the dad has even helped me paint. Such loving and kind people. 💕

The best we can do is be extremely skeptical of any news of foreign countries that are considered "threats" of the western hemisphere, and try to contrast it with different sources always. My rule of thumb is that if any news provoke a visceral reaction of hatred on me, I should always remain skeptical and research more on that topic.

Chinese people are very friendly and hospitable and hardworking. I always wanted to work and live in a foreign country away from San Diego, Southern California. I first came to China for two weeks as a consultant and never left. after celebrating my 20th year here, i’m happy i choose an adventure in China. I have always been treated with kindness and i’ve traveled to every corner and each place was unique in local language, customs, history and heritage but kindness remained the thread throughout the culture. Yes Theory team shows that everyone is connected and at the heart ,everyone is kind throughout the world . thank you for taking us on your adventures and showing not to be afraid of other cultures. continued success to all on your team. • It's nice to see people behave so well while doing challenges abroad. There have been some other youtubers recently that have been acting disrespectfully while traveling for views. You guys set the bar for how to produce content that is both entertaining and admirable. I'm actually amazed at how quickly you have been able to get rides! I love how Steffan always goes a little extra and people are too curious and excited about him to say no.

  • Damn, I miss China! My wife (Chinese born) recently mentioned that we may go back and visit her birth place in rural Canton and I am so hyped! I have a feeling that I will try to get lost as much as I can (with my 7 yrs old son?) and try all the random stuff we can find. We've sort of done it in the past in Shanghai, but you guys are an inspiration to push the boundaries. The last part of the video, with you drinking with random people brought back memory of us in Turkey drinking and laughing with Russians and Kazakhstani. Yes, there's the war and all the controversy, but people can be awesome. They even found our phone the morning after we had a few Jagermeisters too many... Keep up the good work! Keep the good feelings flow!

    • Rural Canton is amazing. Depending on where you are in the province, you can perhaps see some of the most unique villages on earth, some beautiful moutains, tropical seashores, and most importantly, a lot of fresh and tasty foods. Hope you enjoy the trip!

    • @@rogerlin8145 we were in Xinhui and we did indeed see a lot of interesting things. There was a huge park near the city with quiet lakes and huge pagoda-like buildings, and then we visited what I think is called "the birds' paradise", a natural reserve that offers some amazing views while on a boat in a quiet lagoon. It definitely was a good trip, and the food was just fantastic too. I had the luck to try some local cuisine, some stewed wild birds, cooked papayas (in the farm where they were grown). I picked my own sugar cane. It was a truly magical time.

You have opened the eyes of your entire audience and beyond -- of how special, friendly, and beautiful China and its people can be. Where there was apprehension or even fear -- there is instead hope and a renewed excitement to visit there!! You have impacted millions. So nice to see Derin along on this trip of Yes Theory celebration -- and so nice to see Matt join you. Again, I will have to say that I hope that Matt will indeed participate at least once or twice a year in Yes Theory adventures. This does not have to be the end -- we hope he can be part of more adventures to come -- as we would miss him too much otherwise. Thank you Yes Theory for your incredible impact and work to touch your audience and to make the globe a better place. All our love to Matt and much success on the new book! Can't wait to read it.

  • I was hoping there was more from your time in China. There are some area of China where the main way to get around seems like hitchhike (you don't get your own car/taxi, you share with others headed the same direction), so can't say I'm surprised it worked (even if took awhile sometimes). People there are curious and so wonderfully hospitable. Can't wait to visit again.

    • @@wenliu9571 I'm very aware, but I have also traveled in areas of China where what I describe was the best way to get where I was going. Once, every passing bus was full, so the shared car was my only choice. Other towns, however you booked the car, the driver would troll for more customers on the route. Buses and trains are fantastic there, my point was people are more used to and open to the idea of hitchhiking than in some other places of the world cause of things like I'm describing.

I went for one month in 2011, no phone, not able to speak mandarin and we were able to get around using only the maps in our lonely planet book and asking for directions.
