I'd say that gives us two options: either Seasonic are just that good, in which case they should make more cases or designing a good case is much easier than we thought and most case manufacturers out there are a bunch of incompetent idiots

  • "Why are there RGB and fan extension cables?" So you could plug those two cables into your motherboard and route literally EVERY RGB and fan cable in the system to the distro block. Lights and fans account for 80% of the visible cable clutter in a case these days. It's like Seasonic threw in a free fan and RGB hub so you didn't need to buy one. "Why did they put so much thought into RGB for this case and not include any RGB?" Look, you haven't fully grasped the point of this case. The case was not designed to accommodate the power supply. The case AND the power supply were designed together as a PLATFORM. Seasonic have basically said, "You want a case that can handle RGB? Done. You want it to handle 10 fans and radiators? No problem. Don't want to take up space and cram separate RGB and fan controllers into the back of the case? Our distro block is the only hub you need." They are deliberately minimizing aesthetic choices so you can use this platform to build anything from a showpiece PC to an under-the-desk workhorse. You can swap this power supply out in the future and not have to rewire your entire system. You can swap out your motherboard, and since the fans and LEDs are hooked into the distro block, you don't have to re-route a bunch of tiny cables so they reach the new header locations on the new motherboard. I really like where this is going, and I hope they make it a standard of some kind so more cases and power supply vendors can do something similar.

    • @@ostapkurtash6359 What are the disadvantages of inverted ATX, perhaps AIO might not work or fit?

      @sethhu20@sethhu203 жыл бұрын
    • @@sethhu20 The heat from gpu is directly pointing at the AIO radiator on top. Installing the AIO block to the front and moving the intake fans to the TOP as exhaust would mitigate somewhat but then you will be relying on a single intake fan from the rear plus bottom holes. This case screams air cooling for the cpu so then you have direct airflow from the intake fans -> cpu fan -> rear as exhaust. But unfortunately I really want AIO block for the cpu. Custom loop is also possible but it gets really expensive really fast and it can really messy really fast.

      @ostapkurtash6359@ostapkurtash63593 жыл бұрын
    • So this is essentially the endgame case/power-supply solution... Once you have this, you should never need to upgrade either of those 2 things again, only replace the power supply itself it is going faulty.The rest of it seems so well thought out that I couldn't see a reason to want a different case after owning that...

      @dwalters98@dwalters983 жыл бұрын
    • @@dwalters98 Pretty much my thinking. After having a few days to think about it, my only other concern would be the distribution block itself failing. They designed this case with external venting for that block...why? Are they afraid high system temps will shorten the lifespan of its internal components, or are they just compensating for the poor airflow on the back of the case? As long as you set the fans up so the case has decent positive or negative pressure then there should be enough air passing through the block to keep the insides from melting down in overclock situations. Also Linus thinks there is only 12V power coming out of the main PSU, but based on the number of wires and lack of active cooling, I am going to bet they kept all of the voltage switching gear in the main PSU. Power conversions are where the heat happens.

    • tbf, the psu is probably the longest lasting part along with the case and maybe heatsink, you can use a 10-15 years old one if it has enough power, and if like me you had to size for a phenom II x6 and a gtx 480 at some point it probably can. and this one can also potentially adapt to 12vo with just a distro plate upgraade if it becomes a thing in the next 10 years. in most cases you don't need to swap your case out if it can fit the format of your mobo, unless you want to switch to compact (itx) pcs. so getting a mobo+case deal is ok if that means having clean cable management and the case fits your needs.

You don't want RGB? You keep them, and you don't need to upgrade fans because you already have some of the best in the market. Seasonic leaves the choice to you, while at the same time helping you a lot with whatever choice you make. Hard to say if this was actually intended, but it is brilliant regardless. • Two different systems - the first one they debuted was universal, this one I'm almost positive is not. Look at where the 24 pin & GPU power come out of the backplane of this newer one, look at where they come through the case; don't think you're gonna find another case that supports the new one. And, that's why they made it larger with more cooling, and with different connector placement, they chose to make compromises by designing this and this case specifically to be used with each other(granted, the case is still 'universal' while the PSU+backplane isn't). Look back at reviews of the original model, it's deliberately designed for the "conventional/traditional" ATX + floor mounted PSU + fore/aft airflow(in other words, none of these newer cases that have airflow through the side, like the Derbauer Lian Li cases, my InWin 303, etc.) cases with the way that the backplane connectors are laid out. I suspect they'll offer both, maybe, possibly, because of the aforementioned design differences... but I have no idea because I can't get beyond the fucking CloudFlare pre-page to see what is and isn't listed on their site...

    • It's stupid, this psu is useless in any other case, the conversion to 5v and 3.3v still happens somewhere, it's just not in the main psu case properly cooled by a psu fan. It ruins compatibility, you buy this crap you have to keep buying seasonic, if they don't drop this project which is likely. There is zero benefit between this and a standard modular psu

      @25566@255663 жыл бұрын
    • @@25566 If you can somehow mount the hub in a standard case so that its ports are not obstructed, you can use this in there too, and the cables will be a bit tidier, and you have a fan+RGB hub. 12VO will definitely be more widely adopted at some point, so this is an experimental middle-ground until then. The PSU and the case are the two most timeless components of a system, they remain compatible with new hardware for decades, and they don't need a firmware update. Seasonic makes quality power supplies, so it can be expected to last more than 20 years. This combo is a relatively safe purchase, as it will probably be functional even in the 2040s. Not up to the aesthetic standards of that era, but functional. Provided it is taken care of properly, obviously. So there is no chance of buyer's remorse. Computers also don't consume exponentially more power, so today's 650W-1000W PSUs will still be good enough. Even if Seasonic pulls a Google on this project, you will not be screwed super hard. By the time you would want to buy a new case, you would be buying a new PSU as well anyway.

      @matekovacs2696@matekovacs26963 жыл бұрын
    • @@matekovacs2696 the cables will not be "tidier" than a modular psu, you are losing a ton of space on the back to fit that thing, you still have cables going everywhere. The psu I bought in 2012 is still good and will be until it dies, the case I bought in 2012 is ugly and outdated. If i had bought this stupid product, I would have to buy a big case that can fit that "power bar" abomination at the back, and it will be as messy if not more than a regular modular psu. But i bought a STANDARD modular psu and that thing will fit in ANY case.

      @25566@255663 жыл бұрын
    • @@25566 If your goal is compatibility and modularity, this design isn't as good as a fully modular PSU, and it isn't as clean as ATX 12VO, we are on the same page regarding that. But this case and this PSU together is really neat, and you can use the case with any other PSU. This will obviously be obsolete when 12VO becomes widespread, but until then, this is a great option. And if you like this and buy it, it will still work when 12VO becomes the norm, so you won't have to "upgrade". I assume that current PSUs will be forward-compatible with the help of a 24pin+PCIe to 12VO adapter. For backwards compatibility with pre-12VO components, you will need a power bar like this. Actually I bet that Seasonic will release a different powerbar, that has an ATX12VO connector instead of the 24-pin, and doesn't have the 12V to 5V and 3.3V conversion in it.

    • @@doctor9633 I never said they expect me to connect it to my current system without getting a new power supply, so please don't assume. Second, the new technology coming from intel which shifts motherboards to only requiring 12v power would make this product not needed. Third, this power supply basically wouldn't work without being put into this system. The cables are preplanned for this case. This means that larger case manufacturers would have to adopt this technology, but because of this up and coming intel technology. I highly doubt that. If we still lived in 2005 where back panels and cable management wasn't a thing. Sure this is a pretty cool idea. But every case manufacturer has already worked out cabling which is why we have the neat computers we have today!

  • i really like it, this way you could get whatever cables you need, then adjust the PSU power/efficiency/size to whatever you want at the time. Also (re)building a system must be a lot easier and faster with this

  • the idea of branching the PSU to an AIO unit to pull wireing off the Mobo connectivity, drives, fans, and other aspects is amazing. i like this idea. can NEVER have too many fan connectors. 2020 has been a good year for innovating the PC.

  • Really appreciate that Seasonic hasn’t tried to reinvent the wheel in terms of case fans. Nidec makes super high quality server grade stuff and the Gentle Typhoon fans included with this case are very nearly Noctua level in terms of sound while matching them in performance. Having 4 included with the case is a great value add.
