The Halal Taco Truck Uniting Muslim and Latino Communities
In the season finale of FOOD HEROES, we meet Rida Hamida, the driving force behind Latino Muslim Unity and the innovative #TacoTrucksAtEveryMosque initiative, a taco truck serving halal tacos outside mosques.
Motivated by her own experiences with prejudice as the first hijab-wearing woman to work in public office in conservative Orange County, Rida was determined to create a movement that would bring marginalized communities together to cultivate unity and understanding.
#TacoTrucksAtEveryMosque creates a safe haven where "breaking bread by tortilla" becomes a celebration of shared values among communities. The tacos serve as a savory platform for educating communities, dispelling stereotypes about Muslim and Latino communities, and fostering resilient, empathetic connections between these often-misunderstood cultures.

I think you guys should do better quality control over the people you highlight. These people are appropriating other cultures.

I think this is really really cool with everything going on in the world today, I'm not religious in any way shape or form but I hope all the Muslim people watching this video are enjoying Ramadan
My neighbors are muslim and last year i met them on the stairs on Eid (the last day when the fasting is over) having huge trays and whole lots of food. I said Eid Mubarak to them an they smiled and said bless you .. about an hour later there was a knock on my door and i was greeted by their two youngest daughters and the father holding two MASSIVE plates of food for me. I literally could not eat all of it in one sitting so i had free food for two days
You are going to get a lot of Da'wah. Muslim community promotes da'wah and it's one of the most beautiful thing to happen. You will be treated with utmost respect.
Same
Thanks 🤙
Thanks dude appreciate it! You hope you had a great month, too!
Amazing, people feeding people, bringing cultures together through food. I wish everyone could be so open minded.
Perfect! There is a long tradition of Middle Eastern and Mexican intersection. Al pastor comes from Lebanese refugees coming to Mexico city, bringing vertical spit cooking to Mexican cuisine. The mexicans swapped lamb for pork... but kept the name of the lamb dish and boom... classic.
Finally someone who knows something. My great grandfather is Arab and I’m Mexican very few Mexicans know tacos come from Lebanese.
@@anthonym6202 A Lebanese restaurant owner friend was telling me and it blew my mind. I love stuff like that. Central American ingredients got spread all over the world and became intrinsic parts of "local" foods as far away as China, Vietnam, Thailand, India... its so cool that food from another part of the world influenced them as well. The way specific foods have spread all over the world is just so cool to me.
@@anthonym6202not tacos. Al pastor tacos
The greater population arrived in Puebla. They still eat shawarma the OG way there to this day. They are called tacos Árabes.

Homeboy said the two most despised groups in Orange County and he ain’t lying lol
Where have I seen that guy?
Bro, that's what I said. This fool feels victimized for no reason.😂😂
To anyone who does despise them. Absolutely pathetic to hate people for their religious beliefs or where one is born.
@@Magdalena8008sI don’t hate them perse just their horrible religion (well I kinda hate all religion)
@@Magdalena8008sso you cant dislike cults that call themselves religions?
I believe that food and love can bridge any river. We all love, laugh, and eat.Why shouldn't we all do it together?
As you can see, this is not bridging a river. This is somebody coming over and imposing their degenerate religious rules on you and pushing it so far that even the food has to change.
They don't serve carnitas! J/k
They should include persian foods next. Not a whole lot of people know about Ghormeh Sabzi and Tahdig.
Yes sur
I am loving this Food Heroes series, and this episode did not disappoint!

@@TheyBroughtBackStupidHandles Nope, pretty sure bots don't have back pain and menopause symptoms. Nice try, though
Awesome, we have been doing this for years in southwest Detroit. A predominantly Mexican population bordered with Dearborn a predominantly Muslim population
this video made me so emotional. i love this movement. happy ramadan! 🤲🏼
This women had a brilliant idea and sounds like a wonderful person. Long may it continue bringing marginalised communities together under the banner of good food and good times, TOGETHER.
This is awesome. Hope it will continue to grow and available in a lot more places
It’s a disgusting practice that needs to be outlawed.

What a great idea. And the tacos looks delicious
Appreciate the video, especially during Ramadan. This is a great series. I want a halal food truck in Boston😭
Somehow, al-Andalus is culturally a thing again. In fact, it is improved upon even! And from what I see here, I absolutely like it!
Love the solidarity!! The food looks so good
I applaud Rida’s courage and drive 👏👏👏
So, are they also doing substitutions for the pork favorites like chorizo and carnitas?
I remember that “Taco trucks on every corner” message. Sounds wonderful to me. Halal tacos, even better. This entire series is great. Loving every second.
Love this series
They should also start doing da'wah program. If Christians can promote Jesus's words all over youtube comment section and facebook, Muslims can promote Da'wah.
Such an amazing series - loved every story! Brava to all the Food Heroes in this series and beyond the spotlight❤
the difference between the comment section in here and in the yt short of this video is insanee, also as a muslim i lovee this concept!!
🙌🏼Now I have a reason to go to Cali! I can’t wait to try the tacos and hang out with everyone!
I think at this point in our world, tacos are more comparative to sandwiches as an international mode of food consumption. More so then moving from where they originated, to a couple hundred miles north, smh...:(
I wish this got more representation as Hot Ones does!
if you want a good halal Mexican/Lebanese food then i recommend FATIMAS Grill in Downey CA.
Road trip time.

I respect what they’re doing for the community but ain’t no way I’ll give up carnitas (I’m not religious at all)
ALMIGHTY HONOURS WHOM HE WISHES... GREAT JOB..PERFECTLY DONE.. TRUE WINNERS OF BOTH THE WORLDS.. ALLAH HAAMI O NAASIR
Just like the case with Chinese cuisine , In the region of Northwest of China , which the food flavour profile are more adopting the Central Asia profile , incorporate lamb meat the most and not the pork , which people always stereotyping that Chinese cuisine as porkcentric
What a great video to watch. Enjoyed it
I want halal tacos now. open after sunset for a few hours. then I can take them to the family.
May Allah Bless this women, she mashallah is very smart.
We need some in Florida 😊

Don't forget there's Muslim Latinos as well. Arabs immigrated to the America's and Caribbean. It's how you end up with Mexicans cooking Shawarma. But there's also Latinos who converted.
Not many, though?
@@AlphaChinozEl Salvador's president Nayib Bukele is son of Palestinian immigrants and some of his family are Muslims (although he is catholic).
If you look up the history of the Iberian peninsula you will find that the "Moors" or muslim people ruled in Modern day Spain, Portugal, and France during the middle ages. This long time period spanning multiple centuries for surely led to the mixing of cultures which is why in the spanish culture there are arabic influences as evident in the food and words similarities.
