In 1337, Philip VI of France confiscated the English lands in Gascony and Ponthieu, starting the Hundred Years' War. The video is an animated map of the events of the first part of the Hundred Years' War, called Edwardian Phase, which started on May 23, 1337 and ended on October 24, 1360 with the treaty of Calais which awarded Aquitaine, Calais, Ponthieu and the castle of Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte to England in free sovereignty, while Edward III renounced his claims to the french throne.
All battles and events are shown in the key.

  • I should mention that while obviously not all routier/free company raids are shown, but only those for which we have information, which are probably the most notable ones, you must keep in mind that a free company garrison would be ransoming the areas all around for "protection", a practice called taking or extracting "patis". This to say: free company garrison = destruction.

    • Honestly, to find the books I need I just go in the sources used by wikipedia for the topic I want to research, and if you read them you find a lot more information than what is contained in the wikipedia article.

      @somebody.i@somebody.i10 күн бұрын
    • @@somebody.i there aren’t exact maneuvers for every day but 90% of the time it says if it happened in the early, mid or late period of that month.

    • @@hopeundertheblacksun That’s almost true for the colonial era. But in fairer fights where we have less of a technological discrepancy, the only net victory for the Christians would be the conquest of Russia/Ukraine. Their other victories like Spain and Hungary were reconquests, so it cancels out, but Muslims never took Russia: the Mongols did and then they became Muslims. What are your favourite victories then?
