  • I just love this couple. I think it is great that Victoria described Rico's many talents. While accomplished, his list of experiences demonstrates that an every day couple has worked hard and developed a privileged lifestyle out of modest roots. They have become KZhead celebrities and soon will be running a charter business on their own 75 foot superyacht. Well done Nautistyles!

    • Yes, you don't go from EMT and Trucker to superyacht owner without brains and a well-developed work ethic that's for sure. They deserve praise for what they have made for themselves.

  • The "Steering Wheel Spinner Knob" was invented by Joel R. Thorp of Wisconsin in 1936. The Brodie name is a reference to Steve Brodie and was meant to describe all manner of reckless stunts. The device is often called a "suicide knob" because of being notoriously useless for controlling the wheel during an emergency. Yes, Rico is multi talented, but most of all I want to know how he managed to hook a georgious bride.

    • I all ways heard is was from truckers with no power putting there finger in between the rungs of the steering wheel and breaking there finger so then they made the nob to prevent people from doing finger suicide

    • I put a knob on my riding mower so I could use my other hand to hold my drink while mowing. It helps a lot to have a knob on a riding mower when going around things like trees an flowers.

      @terrydouglas2777@terrydouglas27772 ай бұрын
    • I'll add, useless because back in the day they had big steering wheels and in an emergency trying to steer quickly, the knob would get caught on things (clothing, or a body part, etc) causing an accident.

  • I recall the Suicide knob being called that because of the tendency for your shirt or especially coat sleeve to catch on it and steering you into oncoming traffic. There often was not power steering and it gave you some leverage to turn a big wheel giving you something hefty to grip, rather than a thin wheel. I remember my first time behind the wheel of a vehicle was my buddie’s 60’s VW bus with flat steering wheel with suicide knob, and a 30” skinny stick shift on the floor, and boy did it have a lot of throw between gears. Haha, was not the right vehicle to try to learn to drive. But the suicide knob was easy to catch on your clothing because the wheel was flat.

  • I was never a fan of catamaran boats, until I watched you two on one in the Bahamas or wherever you were at and made that video showing all the space on it. Plus if i had one, id like to have my little boat under the floor between the two pontoons and have a door to open up to get boat then lower it into the water. Oh yeah, I am one of those ornery old guys. So when you guys were downstairs in the master, in the bathroom opening up the cabinets to where you can see underneath the helm, if you had all the lights turned off and somebody open that upper cabinet and you grab their arm and then you started barking like a vicious dog you would scare them so good that they would probably crap themselves. An when you think about it that would be so funny, that would be a heck of a joke to play on somebody right. I'm just saying it was just an idea. I get those types of ideas several times a day. Love you guys.

Question for Rico, is that a Panerai you're wearing sir. I collect so I'm always checking out your watches but first time asking. Inquiring minds want to know😂

  • Its funny reading everyone else's naming story, I was told that they were called Suicide knobs because they early models had a tendency to detach from the steering wheel.

  • Victoria, yes you said it and I understood what you were referring to. The lift at 450 kg is good but is it wide enough in a following sea? The forward compartment could be a crew berth if you don’t like your crew. Alternately it could be a dungeon or the ship’s brig. I vote in favor of a kinky dungeon. ;-).

  • Great lay out, and style, those aussies do think about their booze storage! The only thing missing is solar and a dish washer on the flybridge; you don’t want to go up and down with all the glasses etc. Looks like a great live aboard too! Well done, you guys!❤

  • The device known as the "suicide knob" (also referred to as a "spinner knob," "steer knob," or "brodie knob") has a history that dates back to the early 20th century. These knobs attach to a vehicle's steering wheel to allow for one-handed steering, which was particularly useful for drivers who needed to make frequent tight turns or when maneuvering in confined spaces. The name "suicide knob" comes from the perceived increase in risk of injury from the knob during an accident, as it could potentially harm the driver more than a standard steering wheel. Originally, suicide knobs were used in heavy trucks, farm equipment, and by drivers with disabilities who required assistance in steering with one hand. They became popular for their practicality in situations where the driver needed to keep one hand free for other tasks, such as operating machinery or shifting gears in vehicles without power steering. During the 1950s and 1960s, suicide knobs also became a part of car culture in the United States, adorning the steering wheels of hot rods and custom cars not only for their utility but also for their aesthetic appeal. They were often customized with logos, designs, and materials to match the car's interior or the owner's personal style. However, the safety concerns associated with suicide knobs led to regulatory scrutiny. Many jurisdictions have laws regulating or prohibiting their use in vehicles, especially on public roads, due to the potential for increased injury risk in a collision and the possibility of the knob interfering with the driver's control over the vehicle. Despite these concerns, suicide knobs continue to be used in certain applications, particularly in agricultural and industrial settings where their utility can outweigh the potential risks. For drivers with disabilities, specialized versions of steering knobs are designed to meet safety standards and provide necessary assistance.

  • Names for the steering wheel knob include suicide, necker, granny, knuckle buster, and wheel spinner. In Canada, I knew it as a knuckle buster. On a non-power steering vehicle, the steering wheel could whip back to straight after turning a corner. If your hand was anywhere near, it could break your knuckles.
