So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

Apple is always going to keep the iPad Pro as a really expensive Mac accessory. That’s why I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on an iPad but the 11 inch Pro is worth the money over the Air and Mini. Me personally, I believe that the 2018 iPad Pro is the best value as it has pretty much all the functionality of the 2021 Pro without it costing as much as a MacBook.

I love my iPad (2018) but when I want to do basic things like have multiple programs open at once, including mobile apps, or use a Bash shell, or use a built-in keyboard or touch screen, I whip out my beautiful $500 Chromebook.
I use my iPad Pro for PowerPoint production and a secondary screen on zoom calls for professional use. My MacBook handles other stuff. The true power is in the Apple Pencil and being able to take quick notes easily

As an 2021 Pro user (with the keyboard) I must agree there are some frustrating things. One of them is that you must keep some apps on screen for them to export / work. Luma Fusion is a good example. You can’t export in the background. But to be honest, these problems are rare and few in between.

I actually like the iPadOS 15 update but I have a $300 IPad 8. I would be pissed if I had a $2k configuration of a M1 iPad Pro, especially with that return period expiring. Apple is essential trying to Artificially raise demand for it’s MacBooks by limiting the M1 iPad Pro.

The benefit of more open systems like windows, Linux and Android is that whilst they can be more susceptible to malware if handled poorly they also allow development of features and usages that go beyond the original designer's intentions. The problem with that is that it would mean Apple would have to give up some control and would not be able to force people into their pre-determined ecosystem use that is most profitable for them.

I do think they're moving quite slow on the software side, but the fact that iPadOS was branched from iOS is a positive for the future. Having said that, I don't think iPadOS should be macOS, but we will see it become more flexible in the years to come.

Man this is honestly an incredible device. I literally never thought I'd see the day where an iPad - yes, an iPad - had 16GB of RAM? And a desktop processor? I expected the heat death of the Universe before either of those things, yet here we are. This is an incredibly tempting choice over a MacBook for certain professions / Uni students. Not all - I'm a comp sci student and I have no chance compiling a line of code on that - but I've got plenty Law / Arts friends who use last years iPad Pro instead of a standard computer.
It’s a cool device, especially if you’re an artist, but the MacBook Air M1 just seems like a more complete device for the money.

Yeah, it's great for illustration, and I thought that it would be awesome to edit some photos, i was even saving some money to buy an ipad pro (here in Brazil it costs like 1 ½ years of salary) but as he mentioned, it doesn't work very well with photography apps. C'mon, 16gb of ram and the Photoshop/Lightroom cant even get a 3rd of that lol😂😂

If you want to watch a movie on your computer the sound is not that high or if you are showing a video in your latest school presentation it doesn’t sound as high as you need it. They can buy any windows 2in1 device that does the same thing and provides almost same if not better functionality but for half the price. Or they can buy a chromebook or just higher tier android tablet. All of those options will cost fraction of iPad Pro but provide everything user might want to do in future with their device* *Android apps still suck on tablet but some of them are usable.

Writing a year later, in February 2022. I just picked up an iPad 12.9". I am experimenting with sidecar. I set the iPad to be the main display and fill the MacBook screen with all my un-collapsed menu items. Then I saved the workspace to be able to quickly set it all up every time, when needed. I then use the iPad as I would use a large Wacom Cintiq pen display. First downsides I noticed are: not having a hover state (so you can't see your brush size until the pencil touches screen and you commit to drawing) and not being able to toggle or push your pencil into the MacBook screen to control the MacBook. I am impressed though. Wireless. No lag, and most important: I can use my desktop apps (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) on the iPad. Two days into the test, it might be a keeper for on the road. Who ever wants draw on a trackpad or even touch a mouse again?...
I know back when the iPad first came out, many complained that it didn't run MacOS. I mean with all the power that the iPad Pro has now, they can maybe run MacOS on it now if they want this to be a full on computer.

After I lost my last Gen basic iPad with A, I brought this M1 iPad Pro and realised the basic iPad almost capable as M1 iPad Pro. Basically for my daily use I feel like I’m paying extra for nothing. Even apple hasn’t polished its iPadOS software, for example when I connect iPad with monitor through thunderbolt dock, it neither plays sounds through DisplayPort, HDMI nor allow play sound through iPad itself, it only allow to play through the sound card inside thunderbolt dock which I never use.

I work as an illustrator and I’ve been doing work on the iPad alone since 2017 in Procreate. I got used to it enough that I ended up selling my MacBook last year and I don’t miss it. However, this 2021 iPad Pro (and iOS 15) is annoying and it angers me (which is ridiculous, but it does) because it behaves no difference than my 2018 iPad Pro and the apps I use to work on can’t use all the ram that the iPad have. It doesn’t make any sense why would any manufacturer sell you an amazing product that you can’t fully use it. I have hopes that Apple will realize how idiotic this is before I need to replace my 2018 iPad Pro.

There are some rectangular really small things that you can store your files, music, videos e.t.c on them called microsd cards and guess what we need one on the ipad so that we could work with our files and back them up not having to worry if the internal storage fails... someday soon i hope. Great hardware though!

I believe that they should have developed an embedded Desktop UI like the Samsung DeX, because even though it might sound like stealing, it's better than the normal iOS launcher that isn't ideal for advanced use.

6:35 I did set up a SMB server on my PC to access some of the files in its disks with my phone or other computer. I had a terrible time trying to do so with a built-in file manager on my iPhone... Every time I tried to copy a large amount of data a huge lag spike would appear and even force-stopping the program wouldn't work. For from a couple of mins to half an hour. And after that paste option sometimes would just crash every time I tried to access it. And that if I was lucky. If I wasn't the file manager would keep opening iCloud instead. Or show SMB folders empty. Now when I changed my wi-fi router 2/3 directories don't appear at all (Works fine with other PC or Android). Was jocking about it for roughly a year with my friends but I'm starting to get tired of it. Anyone else with similar experience?

I had an iPad Pro in checkout, wanting a powerful mobile device for on the go professional tasks combined with tablet portability. Many reviews left out that the iPad OS is not the same as MacOS, and it was the one single deciding factor that made me remove it from cart. Apple, I get using a lightweight OS on the mini, maybe even the air, but the Pro needs to be treated differently! Give us MacOS!!!

It does extend when connect to a monitor, I connected my iPad Pro 2021 and it was an extended screen, only problem is you can actually access it without a mouse and even with one it is very bad to control, but it still works, also idk how to switch it to extended

Honestly i use the iPad standard 10th generation as my main portable computer, including for editing video, and works perfectly, i use Logitech pencil and combo touch keyboard, so loving it, very helpful for what im doing

I know this is a bit too late to suggest now but… please is there a way to put “lower is better” or “higher is better” notes on the upper side of the graphs displayed on videos. I sometimes need to open subtitles but they end up being covered when i watch.
7:28 OR you could just use spotlight? and If you dont have a keyboard you can use assistive touch (settings app -> accessibility -> touch -> assistive touch -> *any action you like* -> spotlight)
