  • Hey Aaron! Does Leo demand to go outside everyday? I wanna take my ragdoll kitten outside but I’m worried that he won’t want to stay inside anymore if I do 🤔

    @idk189@idk1892 жыл бұрын
    • Not an issue for me, sometimes I think he is bored and meows at the front door but this happens very rarely, maybe once every few weeks. Even with our balcony, as it is winter now we keep the door shut most of the time and he doesn't demand to go out onto the balcony. Have you gotten your new ragdoll yet? :)

      @mrleoragdoll@mrleoragdoll2 жыл бұрын
    • @@mrleoragdoll yes I got him and he looks exactly like Leo when he was little 😍 I have another older cat she was an indoor cat for 4 years but recently I took her outside because I felt bad for her and now she demands to go outside every evening without missing one day and it can be so exhausting. That’s why I became a little hesitant to take my ragdoll kitten outdoors. I thought that maybe it would be difficult to handle two cats 🙈

      @idk189@idk1892 жыл бұрын
    • @@idk189 I can understand how that would be exhausting, especially if taking her outside requires your supervision. I think you could get your older cat to become indoor only again if you wanted to but it would require some work, for example you could try completely ignoring her demands to go outside, it's not easy but after several days she might stop. Another idea is to get some sort of outdoor enclosure that allows her to explore outside in a safe way without your supervision. I guess I am lucky that I don't have this behavior with Leo. Hope you enjoy your new ragdoll and he gets along with your older lady :)

    • @@idk189 you need to exercise some caution if your cat is friendly re letting them outdoors. I have a friend whose cat is now obese because the neighbors overfeed him. he has not been able to lose the weight and they couldn't care less about his health

  • I communicate to my cat in a similar way. I have trained him to understand about 50 words/phrases. If he wants food, water or treats, i say "kitty food" a couple of time, then kitty water and lastly treats. He will paw high five me when i say the right thing. He will also come 100% of the time if I call his name. It took us 5 or so years, but now he can communicate any need to me.

    • My cat knows 55 phrases, and knows how to work a calculator.

      @Fiskgjusen@Fiskgjusen Жыл бұрын
    • @@Fiskgjusen lol, you might be able to train a cat to fake operating a desk calculator...but that might be even hard for a movie cat. Start by tapping on a higher surface, say "up up". Give a treat if the cat does it. Next step is to say "up up", no tapping. Then get it to where you point at something higher and say "up up". Once you treat train, you can replace the treat with a short petting or brushing. Using 2 words at once seems easiest for my cat to understand. Either double a word or the same word twice. Now spend 10 more years hanging out with your cat and teaching it 😀 I don't use a clicker as I do it with my throat, much easier as the cat is focusing on you and not a clicker. Some cats are much more social than others, some will want to be with you and keep you happy, others are psychopaths.

      @hicknopunk@hicknopunk Жыл бұрын
    • That's amazing! Leo knows a handful of words and I'm currently teaching him some more. I'm really lucky because Leo is food motivated and highly teachable so it's not too hard. The difficulty is coming up with new word ideas. Thanks for sharing your story 🙂

    • @@mrleoragdoll lol, horses have acted like they are doing math, it should be technically possible with the right cat. Using 2 words together really seems to be they key in my cat understanding my sounds. A key thing was getting my cat to realise "kitty" ment him. I kinda use "kitty" to get him to pay attention to the next word. Otherwise commands like "up up" or "down down" work well

  • I had a rescue rag doll , looked just like Leo, she was hard work. Didn’t like being brushed, would bite me, got lots of knots I had to cut off! Then she also had toilet issues , I’d say from having 4 owners after her 12 years with one owner , I tried for over a year to get her trust, but I couldn’t clean her mess up anymore! She would walk into a room and just use it as her toilet, despite having 4 clean trays in the house. Sadly , I returned her to the rescue center, I’ve missed her for over 4 years, but I have another Cat , she’s lovely and smart, a rescue , but lovely temperament. So I’d love to follow your beautiful Leo. You are good cat parents.

    • You did an amazing thing to try and care for that first rescue. Sometimes they just have really difficult personalities that are incompatible with human lifestyle and the best thing to do is pass it onto another owner who might be more compatible with her. I'm really passionate about rescues myself and hope to get a rescue cat to accompany Leo soon. Thanks for sharing your story!

    • I got 2 adult cats from a hoarding situation that were shell shocked, they are both Ragdolls, and they have feline hiv. They hate being brushed but, I somehow manage. I would rather die than send them back to the shelter. I didnt get them because they are rag doll cats, I got them because they were the ones who needed a home most and had been there the longest due to feline hiv.

  • My ragdoll, named Bagel, won’t wear her harness and will lie down and refuse to walk if we put it on her. But she loves to be outside and run around. However we have mountain lions and bears here in Colorado so she can’t be let out unsupervised! Also, I have tried tempting her with every single cat treat known to man, have tried real fish, salmon and tuna. She won’t eat anything except dry food, cooked chicken and small pieces of cheese. She’s so spoiled! And I love her dearly!

    @wendysusan770@wendysusan770 Жыл бұрын
    • That's amazing! I have been to Colorado, it's beautiful, didn't know about the mountain lions and bears though! In Australia we have dangerous snakes and spiders. It sounds like Bagel either has very particular food preferences (which is quite common for cats) or she has learnt to trust eating only certain foods which is a good survival adaptation. My cat Leo had the same reaction to wearing a harness but he very quickly became used to it, he also didn't like the first harness I got him so I had to get him another type which has lighter and less restrictive. Thanks for sharing :)

    • I had the same eating problem with my ragdoll. Tried salmon .chicken , beef. Boiled , fried , steamed. No go. A bit of a nible with boiled salmon and imported from Scotland salmon oil. Eventually settled on "Kitty Crack". Fancy Feast Grilled salmon or grilled tuna. Nutritionally near useless, provides just the minimum in vitamins (the salmon and tuna are just flavours)

  • Hello from the U.S.! I had a cat that used to paw everything around her litter box too. I asked my vet about it and he said she does this to knock litter out from between her toes. Apparently, its the equivalent of getting rocks out of your shoes.

    • @@mrleoragdoll I spoke to my vet about this also, he told me that probably the litter box was too small. I changed it for a bigger one and my cat stopped doing it (: Not trying to lecture you or anything but I do think your litter box is a bit small..

      @edgarjovaca@edgarjovaca Жыл бұрын
    • @@edgarjovaca Hmm interesting, perhaps it's worth getting a bigger litter box. How big is the one you have now? Also I have purchased him a slightly larger litter box already but it might still be too small.

    • @@mrleoragdoll I’m not at home rn so I can’t give you the exact measurements, but my cat is standard sized and the litter box is big enough to fit her in 3 times if that makes sense haha

  • What an unusual way to feed a cat. But, hey, he probably never wakes you up in the morning to meow for food, o there's that.

  • It's so good you take your cat on a walk. It can be very dangerous (more then other breeds) to be let outside as they're more susceptible to predators
