  • Sterling tried doing this earlier in the season and Enzo came in and said naw took the ball and gave it to Palmer. This why I honestly think once Enzo learns English he should be captain. Someone needs to have a backbone to stand up to Sterling, like what Azpi would do from time to time.

    @Adelocity@AdelocityАй бұрын
    • You can criticize Enzo for his physical ability tracking back, but he has great vision and has demonstrated having great spirit. I can see him being a solid captain, more so than our experienced options like Chillwell, Silva or god forbid, Sterling.

      @nicolaszan1845@nicolaszan1845Ай бұрын
    • he's the only plausible option for future captain, apart from Colwill. Anyone who disagrees need to watch his first season at the club, coming in mid-season with new teammates and he's already anchoring the midfield and shouting instructions in a language he can barely speaks. That to me speaks volume of his character as a leader.

  • Raheem Sterling must have a lot of power in the dressing room as a senior player because he took a penalty and a free kick off palmer today. No one even tried to stand up To him. Poch is afraid to drop him. He must be one of the main voices in the dressing room there is no explanation as to why he’s starting or taking pens or free kicks he is the worst player I’ve seen play for Chelsea since my first game in 2002. Poch must be terrified he’ll turn the dressing room on him if he drops him he should not be starting simple as. Let alone taking pens off palmer but no one bats an eye lid. He is toxic and needs to be removed immediately.

    @slaya567@slaya567Ай бұрын
    • To me this seems like one of the plausible explanations for how Poch hardly drops him and the absolutely comical decision to sub Mudryk before Sterling. I mean I'm done with him. He's an evergreen moody player which only machinic consistency of Pep could handle. Beyond him, he's just a broken clock who's right twice a day.

      @ayushyakaul1@ayushyakaul1Ай бұрын
    • Another over-determining factor in this analysis is the present average age of the squad. Sterling is literally the oldest player in most of the match day starting squads without Silva. Unfortunately, Sterling unlike Silva is not a leader. Never has been. Managers usually mold their team around Sterling like Pep did at times. But he was never a leader. We expect Sterling to do that by default now rather by choice since this fucking board decided collectively to recruit solely college graduates and high schoolers.

When they got level I thought we were going to fall apart but we held up and finished strong. Sanchez is always a train wreck waiting to happen. Jackson worked his arse off and is so good at the link up. The back heel by Palmer for the 3rd goal was sublime. There are still big parts of our game that we just don’t have any rhythm…the players look clueless and that’s down to Poch. I still have that feeling with Poch as the gaffer we’re going to end up like the spuds only in Blue.

  • I get this anecdotal and won't work for everyone but with Sterling and even Jackson earlier in the season I remember hearing about MO Salah and him saying he had put some goals in his garden at home to practice his finishing. Maybe it wouldn't work for everyone and it probably wouldn't make a difference with the pen and free kick but some of the other shots they've missed recently think about how much more impact full these guys would be with just a couple more goals this season. Sticking by Sterling seems like a task that nobody is happy with but keeping him from dropping his head altogether seems important. Not justify him staying on this game but until Nkunku returns and/or we sell him in the summer we need Raheem to give it his all and play. If we started a front 4 with Palmer, Jackson, Mudryk, Carney and Noni, like any combination of those 4 it would be a first time with that line up. So I get trying to keep Sterling on board. He needs to do better.

  • I know people won't agree, but I don't think Poch had much of a choice in terms of starting AND keeping Sterling in this match. Here's the logic, I'll be glad if you find counter arguments to it. Here's the before the match situation the way I see it from Poch's eyes: 1. Enzo is banned, Cacadei can't play in the FA Cup because he already played in it for another team, so all potential #10s for today's match are Mudryk, Palmer, Chukwuemeka, Gallagher and maybe Sterling if everybody else is dead. Any other name in the whole squad that could play a 10 is either injured or a baby from the academy. 2. Mudryk has to start after what he did with Newcastle, and he only has two options - 10 and left wing. He seems to be better as a 10 currently, so he goes there as a first choice. The rest of the squad forms from there. 3. Palmer absolutely has to start, 10 is taken by Mudryk + he's better as a right winger anyway, so he goes there. 4. Gallagher can't play 10, otherwise Caicedo's only teammate in the CDM line is the 16-year old Ollie Harrison which is not an option. 4. Chukwuemeka can't play a full match, he literally returned from a month-long injury a week ago and played exactly one minute against Newcastle. Plus, he had a 4.5 long absence this season because of another injury. Playing him from the start or even from the start of the second half is too much of a risk. 5. Madueke can't start on the left. He doesn't play on the left ever. Everything that we know about him so far suggest that he's a one-legged Arjen Robben type player, he can't do his tricks inverted - or so it seems. We've never seen him on the left, and this is not a match to experiment with it. 6. The striker option is also without alternative - Jackson, because Nkunku is out of commission. So we can't use Jackson as a second winger instead of Sterling as well. Plus it's no time to experiment, when Gallagher has to play lower due to Enzo's ban. 7. Ergo, unless we want to see another abomination called "left winger Chilwell", we have exactly one option for a left-winger start, and like it or not it's Sterling. The match starts, things happen, Mudryk isn't very productive as a 10, he has to go left to see if something changes. Somebody has to take his place in the 10. The only option for that is Sterling, because Carney isn't ready for 45 minutes, Palmer is too good on the left to shift him and putting Madueke for 45 minutes is kinda too radical, the game is too unsure for such early changes. And finally, when Mudryk goes away, I think the logic was kinda like this: 1. Mudryk didn't perform well on either 10 or wing. 2. Mudryk is tired and more importantly, he doesn't have things to prove IMMEDIATELY, like he did a week ago. Sterling does, because god knows there's not much more chances he can get if he doesn't do something RIGHT NOW, even though he was kinda the only choice for this game on left wing. 3. Sterling has an awful game, again, but he had a moment of brilliance once today already and this kinda counts against Mudryk, who hadn't. I thing, there was some fool's hope that maybe Sterling can wake up for 10 seconds once again.

Sanchez was positioned just fine for a pass back, Disasi should’ve had his head up and known where his goalie was (maybe he did and it was the bump that threw him off). Petrovic couldn’t have saved that second goal, you can say he might’ve but it’s speculative. Poch starts Sanchez because when we purchased him, he was our first team goalie. He got injured and petrovic stepped up and became more consistent. Now that Sanchez is back, he wants to prove to the coaches that he’s our main man. So poch gives him his opportunities during our cup games (against championship level sides). His performance can be judged off of that, but you can’t blame poch for giving him a look. Sterling had 0 composure today yes. I agree that I’d start the other 5 attacking players over him. But again, poch is probably thinking of putting in an experienced, quick player to go against Leicester. To his credit, he was finding himself in some really good areas and found the ball a lot. He just wasn’t clinical. I think it was probably due to arrogance or lack of focus or selfishness, but I’m being speculative. If I’m poch, I’m watching sterling and thinking “he’s not bagging any of these opportunities, but they keep coming to him so surely he’ll finish one or two”. After a certain amount of time though he had to make the switch. I agree that sterling should’ve come off ahead of Mudryk.

I agree with you that sterling and sanchez were woeful and should be going to Saudi Arabia by boat in August.

  • The worst thing about Poch is his mindset. After the Cup final loss against Liverpool, Poch admitted that he was playing to go to Penalties, and not aiming to win the game outright. Against Man City last month, we seen the way he subbed out all of our attacking/creating players in the 70th minute WHEN WE WERE TIED. How can we expect our players to go out and give their all on the pitch, when the head of the snake has the heart of a coward?

  • Ngl, before the game started I was sweating bullets. The captain was late to lead them out. Body language was screaming insecurity. Palmer looking like he wanted to cry. Poch late to get out. Something definitely happened behind closed doors and it affected the lads. If I was to take a wild guess, Sterling did something good in the locker room and palmer probably got the end of something. Could’ve been an influence to leaving him in there longer, although I would disagree with that. It seems to be a recurring issue all season, but not specific to one player which is good How would I try to fix this? Squad needs more maturity senior players that understand professional relationships to teach to the kids on the team is how I would attack this. We also need an in game bruiser, which would bring security and confidence to the players. A terry/rudiger type player personality is what we need. Any opinions on what player we can try to get like that?

  • When Poch took Mudryk off it was without a doubt the right call. Sterling had a better game than Mudryk, who when the sub was made, had barely impacted the game at all - whatever position he played in. As happens (usually when he starts) Mudryk seems unable to take on his man - especially from a standing start - and contributes only adequate link up play and a good defensive work rate. For a winger, this hole in his game is a real concern - the guy is 23 years old. Are we expecting him to suddenly work this out, or was Frank right when he said "he's so quick, he's lightning, but he doesn't know the game"? Sterling on the other hand wins the pen, breaks through for a golden chance, and then keeps his head up having missed the pen and missed a sitter to assist Cole Palmer. Very few players on our side, shaky as they are when their heads go down, would have shown this resolve. Yes we should have been 4-0 up at half time, and nobody is denying that Sterling had a howler, especially taking the ball from Palmer for the pen (and then taking one of the worst pens the bridge has seen in a long time), but the fact of the matter is, Sterling's 'terrible' performance contributed more positively to our win that Mudryk's giving his usual 6.5/10, who did as Mudryk does, and sat on the periphery of the game, running hard, defending well and achieving very little in the final third. For now Muds is better off the bench - and Sterling has the better all round game and impact by a country mile. Also - Sterling didn't 'take' the free kick from Palmer - it was (just) on the left side of the box, and Sterling has taken those throughout the season, including scoring one, as Joey says. Sterling's free kick was comically bad, but that happens, and it's massively disappointing to see the Chelsea fans booing our own - how's that going to help the team when we need a win? Hopefully Mads gets some more starts, he seems to keep proving his worth. Great to see Carney back. Brilliant Jackson performance. A worrisome showing from Sanchez. The back four were fine and apart from Disasi's freak OG, but these things happen, and they built well from the back. A final note - the team seems too short, too light, and lacking teeth. Is there a way to fix this in the transfer window - or have we committed now, investing big money in such little footballers?

  • If the rumours are to be believed I think the reason why sterling gets minutes and the same as Sancho is the trying to move them on in the summer. Now if you keep them on the bench then their values drops. yes I understand if they play s***. that ain't much good either but you don't want the value to drop on these players.

But i do hope he goes to the Saudi League maybe he needs a fresh start somewhere else cause id never wish any player to do badly or whatever but it looks clear hes not the player he used to be and to perform 1 in 10 games is not what we need Great video mate
